I love your stuff. Your one of my favorite artists to cover. Your songs evoke emotion in a different te way than I’ve heard from even people like Zach Bryan, colter wall, and other greats. I’m hoping you make it big. I’m glad I have a model like you of how to write and get better. God bless. This song is my favorite one of yours I can’t wait til it gets out.
The lyrics (I believe) From his video on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/hiSZLRmcC5s/v-deo.html [Intro] [Verse 1] I've been fightin' demons, wagin' war On the things that i've found hidin' behind the closed off door Little things inside myself I didn't even know were there I've tried to find the root of all the fighting that ensued When I realize the air in my legs Burnin' from the past ain't that easy here in small town U.S.A [Chorus] Ain't quite the land of cotton But old times here sure ain't forgotten Just like your mistakes when you're seventeen Never made no rebel yell, and I didn't cry when Richmond fell I won't weep for General Lee Rebel pride and prejudice just ain't what country means to me [Verse 2] Don't it make you crazy, make you wanna scream All the things that we've been seeing on just this lone screen Been livin' with blatant evil from the evil left in our past So let this be my message, let it be my battle cry I won't stand by and be silent while innocent folks die Change has gotta happen, and I guess that starts with me [Chorus] Ain't quite the land of cotton But old times here sure ain't forgotten Just like your mistakes when you're seventeen Never made no rebel yell, and I didn't cry when Richmond fell I won't weep for General Lee Rebel pride and prejudice just ain't what country means to me [Outro] I've been fightin' demons
I love your music man… I’m not going to try to argue. Dang good song in its own respect. But why man? Don’t we catch enough of this stuff from everyone else? Now I have to hear about how I’m wrong for the flag above my bed by someone who I looked up to.. keep doing what you’re doing and you have every right to do so. Just wish it didn’t have to be continuously bickered about..
Black folks probably wish they were not still fighting for freedom after all this time, that door swings both ways. Not just them, ask the Japanese about 1942 and ask what happened to them. Ask Hawaii or Guam or American Samoa why they can’t be fully recognized. The list goes on and on.

As a southerner this song hits me right in the heart.
One of my favorite songs I've heard in a long time.
You really have the most beautiful, melodic voice J.R. Carroll. Very distinct, I could pick it up out of a crowd. Thank you for posting!
I'd be remiss if I didn't say J.R. has one of the best male voices I've heard in a while!

The lyrics (I believe)
From his video on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/hiSZLRmcC5s/v-deo.html
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
I've been fightin' demons, wagin' war
On the things that i've found hidin' behind the closed off door
Little things inside myself I didn't even know were there
I've tried to find the root of all the fighting that ensued
When I realize the air in my legs
Burnin' from the past ain't that easy here in small town U.S.A
[Chorus]
Ain't quite the land of cotton
But old times here sure ain't forgotten
Just like your mistakes when you're seventeen
Never made no rebel yell, and I didn't cry when Richmond fell
I won't weep for General Lee
Rebel pride and prejudice just ain't what country means to me
[Verse 2]
Don't it make you crazy, make you wanna scream
All the things that we've been seeing on just this lone screen
Been livin' with blatant evil from the evil left in our past
So let this be my message, let it be my battle cry
I won't stand by and be silent while innocent folks die
Change has gotta happen, and I guess that starts with me
[Chorus]
Ain't quite the land of cotton
But old times here sure ain't forgotten
Just like your mistakes when you're seventeen
Never made no rebel yell, and I didn't cry when Richmond fell
I won't weep for General Lee
Rebel pride and prejudice just ain't what country means to me
[Outro]
I've been fightin' demons
