- In this video we are testing the Bosen Limbs on the Dryad Epic 17 riser. Speed testing and comparison between fast flight string and Dacron.
Limbs are Bosen LCS Carbon Foam. Riser is Dryad Epic 17. I´m trying to list the results in right corner of the video as we go. Hope you enjoy, Thanks for watching!
How are you liking the Dryad riser? I am very interested in purchasing one for myself, and I’d be interested in hearing more from you about the riser in particular.
@@philiplayne8495 I like the riser well for longbow limbs. They are not ideal for recurve, because of the low degree pad angle. The Epic are also designed for longbow limbs as far as I know.
I contacted Bosen bows today on their LCS longbow carbon limbs like yours. Bosen said the carbon longbow limbs are 10 fps faster than the fiberglass foam longbow limbs by Bosen. You think this speed difference is true or a little overrated? Thank you
I think it’s true
@@peterjuulsgaard
Wow that is fast because I thought my Bosen fiber foam limbs are fast
Peter you are a great inspiration with the traditional equipment also as a person... Like I said before in the reply section, I like a dyneema D97 string from my modern bows. I may get a stretch of three sixteenths of an inch and its set.. I believe in my opinion that it doenn't stress the limb tips also a great material for a happy medium between dacron and fastflight...
Thanks! I’m planning to test a D97 in near future too
I have been using Bosen fiber foam recurve limbs for years now and they are some of the best I own, very fast and tough as nails.
Yes I also like these limbs very much indeed
"It's a personal thing to release an arrow on a traditional bow" - now that says it all! Great video Peter and so insightful on even the small technical aspects.
Thanks my man!
Another interesting and enlightening video Peter. Thanks! 🙂
Your welcome
Thanks, Peter. Very useful.
Your welcome
In the end it's personal preference. You have a comfort zone
Correct
Good video that is one of the many reasons I won't use dacron string. Darren
I use Dacron on most my selfbows, tho
Excellent video peter thanks for sharing 👍

Thanks for the video "I am nearly a year at Archery and have got good info,,, from you" Greetings from IRELAND.
Glad you like it
very good film and very realistic, resolv a problem for many archer's
Thank you Peter I made a similar test many years ago the only thing that I can realize is the Dacron string is easier on the equipment especially the tips and string knocks on a recurve bow any fast flight strings that I build for recurve bows have extra strands in the string loops. But my testing was about the same it rated the difference was 10 to 12 ft./s but the Dacron string I was using had more strands and was certainly heavier than the fast light string I was test
I am using the Dacron on my selfbows and my good old Grizzly. Nice and quiet shots
Good video. Good to test a 11.9gpp arrow - that's more helpful for hunting practices than only the common 10gpp. From my experience, as little as 60grains can make a noticeable change in volume.
Thanks! Yeah I mostly weigh the arrows in the videos, because we often see folks just shoot through the cronograph with 185 fps. But that really dont tell much
I have bosen bow double carbon hybrid limbs with bamboo core, 19" riser/50#, extra long. Good limbs. Seeing you shooting Bosen Bows limbs I modified black hunter 15" riser for those ilf limbs. Not as great as Uukha's Uureg limbs but I like light bow weight and shape of hybrid limbs.
Nice
Yes I can use this information. I found it interesting to watch. The question is... which one to pick for hunting? I would pick the quieter Dacron string. I live and hunt in the state of Georgia, US. I notice that the whitetails are sensitive to noise and that they will " jump the string" so to speak. Especially the does. They are very fast at dropping down to load up for a run. I'm not sure if they are responding to the sound of the bow string or the actual arrows. I think it would be interesting if you could make a video which tested or measured the amount of noise an arrow makes as it approaches the deer. I really enjoy your videos and it feels like I'm there with you. Thank you.😊
Thanks. Yeah but a important factor is also shot distance and reading the deer. If they are alert in the moment of the shot they will jump/duk. Same with roedeer. Maybe we can make the test one day with the feather noise. Feather noise is actually why I’m playing with the tradvanes as well
@@peterjuulsgaard yes, feathers might be noisy and maybe they can be cut down to a smaller size and still be affective. They could be 3 fletch and 2.5 or 3 inch. Also straight fletching vs right or left. I completely agree that deer on alert is a game changer. Always better if they are relaxed and unaware of your presence.
You answered my question right at the end, that the Dacron was quieter than the FastFlight which I suspected. Something else to consider, many older traditional bows are NOT rated for FastFlight strings. I am not sure when the industry started making bows that were suitable for FastFlight. Does anyone know, or how to tell if their bow is rated for the faster string? Thanks for the comparison.
We need to contact the manufacture to be sure wether the limbs can handle FF strings. I’ve heard it was in the 90’s they started to make them FF compatible
Very informative, you have the best videos. 👍
Thank you
Great Video Peter , Thanks
Thanks! Your welcome
Thank you Peter, keep tinkering 🤔🏹
I will👍
Great video Peter Thank you.
Only variable I can see there is the string silencers on the Dacron look like they weighed a bit and I couldn’t tell what you had on the fast flight.
The extra weight would slow the string down more
Yeah Thanks. The Dacron have jarn silencers two piece. And the fast flight have 4 piece of rubber catwhiskers, small though. The Scientific way would be with out silencers at all. But this aint a bow store you know😉
@@peterjuulsgaard haha I know, probably only change the results a foot or two. I only mentioned it as I only just discovered how different silencers can change your arrow tune! Blew my mind love your videos, thanks again

Cool looking bow.
Thanks
excelente video Peter
Thanks
Like your video!!! I say those are pretty good speed numbers!! I like 652 fastflight but I would like to see a d97 bowstring speed test also how quiet the d97 is? Thank you. For the price, performance also quietness I like dyneema 97 bowstrings 16 to 18 strand on 50 plus pound bows..
Thanks man. Yeah maybe if I one day have those strings you are mentioning. Even though I have some different stuff, I dont have it all.
Hi Peter, fantastic video.
I can make a D97 bowstring for this test, if you are interesting please let me know flemish or continuous loop, how long and how many strands. Regard from Spain.
Thanks man! Bow is 62” so the string should be a flemish at the lenght of 59” with 14 strands. You can contact me for home adress on peterjuulsgaard@hotmail.com I appreciate it🙏
@@peterjuulsgaard great!! Let's do it
interesting test,
if you're using your bow in a competition, speed it's more important for precision and flight stability (over 30*50 meters)
but 170 fps is fast if you consider the precision is the main thing, so, Dacron is more comfortable on very good bows...
i'm using a enless dacron string on my Falco Legend (no choice) and with carbon arrows it's a good speed considering it's for fun at 18-30 meters (precise bow if you're good)
What do you think of the Bosen carbon/foam limbs versus the Sanlida carbon/foam limbs?
The performance is the same. But the Bosen are longbow limbs, and stack a little more. The Bosen longbow limbs are among my favorite limbs. But I also like the stacking
Where did you get the limbs? Consodering of getting an ilf longbow😁
Greetings from Germany
I got mine from eBay
Good stuff man 😎👍💯🇺🇲🔥🏹
Yes sir, for 10 feet per second, I will go with a quieter string. I also think dacron is easier on the bow. Until last year I tried to get all the speed out of a bow I could. Now I have changed my view on that.
It also seems like that the heavier the arrow is the less loss there is with the Dacron. 582 grain Only lost 6 fps. But the 483 grain lost 10 fps
@@peterjuulsgaard yes
Would have been curious what the bow weighed with the dacron string? Don't believe it would have been 48.7# but less because of the stretch when at 28".
Yeah maybe. But I dont think it would be much of a difference, since this Dacron have been shot many times on one of my selfbows. It was not Scientific and the video was already long enough
Peter were these the Bosen Long or XL long limbs ?
Regular longs
@@peterjuulsgaard how did these limbs draw for you, was there much stack ?
@mumurioste790 well my drawlenght is only 27” so I dont feel much stack compared to other longbow limbs. The bow is 62” in all. Of course they are stacking more than a recurve
@@peterjuulsgaard I hate to keep bothering you but I’m looking for a good pair of hunting ILF limbs to put on my 17inch Tradtech riser. I’d like to find something with a smooth draw and little to no stack. Also all of my hunting is out of a tree stand. Thank you
@@mumurioste790 little to no stack is recurve limbs like Uukha and such. But compared to regular wood glass longbow limbs, Bosen dont stack
The Dacron string has way too many twists in it which further adds to the stretch of the material.
What was the spine and length of both arrows?
The Black Eagle is a 400 with the lenght of 30 inch in all, but it also had 350 grain in front. The Axis is a 600 but Only 28,5 inch and Only around 200 in front
@@peterjuulsgaard thank you a lot.. I love your videos. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Germany

What are this massive Knobs at about 1/4 from the limb base good for ?
They are called limbsavers and are made of rubber. They reduce noise and vibrations from the limbs
@@peterjuulsgaard Ah, thank you. So it's some kind of dampers. I thought this things might cost some performance, as they are located within the working section of the limbs.
@Dr._Spamy If you place them just where the fade out ends, it cost little to none performance. Almost no movement from the limbs there.
come to Kansas and make me one of those tables please 💢💚💢
Haha 😂 maybe I’ll make it over there some day
the best solution in hunting archery are the sinusoid limbs patented by mr.Vicini. strong ,quick, consistent, mortal. before i was for 10 years recurve bow hunter till i found out the sinusoid techno by Mr. Vicini. I decided to sell all of my recurves: uukha, hoyt, predator and keep me a pair of limbs of sinusoid technology developed by Italian bowyer Mr. Davide Vicini. Why so: the limbs control is much easier then of the recurve, while the speed and power are astonishing. With a 50 lbn draw wheight its more dynamic then my predator of 55 lbn! The recurve is snappy and vibrant, this one is just quick and powerfull, no snappy vibration and of course mortal) I highly recommend this bow of Mr. Vicini.
