Thank you for all your great videos about this camera. I bought the A7C after watching pretty much all your stuff about it and it's honestly the absolute perfect camera for me. It's $100 cheaper now on sale and I think people fuss way too much about their gear when they should be worried about creativity. This thing makes me wanna shoot tons of video and photo and explore the world, and I haven't felt that way in such a long time.
I agree 100% about the smaller viewfinder. It never bothered me in the least bit because it makes framing shots super fast since you don't need to "scan" the image with your eye. I never really understood the hate that the EVF gets.
I’m a girl with small hands. Shot YEARS of weddings with a Canon 5d. Now I like to just get out with this and it’s small and it made me feel again like having fun and not working. ❤ For my current purposes the fact that it’s so compact is the top criterion. I am in love with it.
I keep coming back to this video. I had the a6400 then moved to a7 iv. And my willingness to grab the bigger body camera and go out has reduced and I honestly think if I went backwards to the a7c that I can regain the spontaneous love. I'm trying to think what I'll sacrifice and if it's not even that big of a deal. Your video helped me get one step closer to that decision 😇
I understand, I just did the "downgrade" myself, well knowing that probably next year there'll be the a7cii. Anyway!I I admire the 7IV, it's a very functional, good camera, but I just don't feel like going out on the streets with the 7IV.
I have had my a7c for a year and your videos were a big reason why I chose it over other cameras. I recently purchased the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 and am loving it. I traded in my Sony 24-105 f4 that I purchased at the same time as the camera. I still have the kit lens and the Sony 85mm 1.8. I recently got back into photography after 9 years. I purchased the Sony a6600 but returned it to get the a7c. I had a Sony nex-6 prior to that so I have always enjoyed the range finder style design. The one thing that I do not enjoy as much is editing. So although I love my a7c I bought a Fujifilm X-e4 to try out their film simulations. So far I am loving it as well. I have the 35mm f2 lens. I am not leaving Sony for Fujifilm but I definitely get the appeal. I really enjoy having two different camera options. The x-e4 is easier to carry around but having the Tamron 35-150 has been amazing. I did buy the small rig 3212b which has the bigger grip for it and it has made a huge difference in comfort with the bigger Tamron lens. It doesn’t cover up the silver top so it still looks fantastic. Thank you for the video.
This video was very helpful. I’m purchasing my first camera and from all the countless research I’ve done, it’s lead me to this one. This video sealed the deal, I’m buying it tomorrow!
The Smallrig 3212 cage (which have a nice grip extension) solves the grip issue and also make the camera heavier which helps to get better stabilization video. stabilization improves a lot with it. I tested with and without and the difference is huge. the camera is too light by default for video. People were saying it didn't have the same quality of ibis than a a7III. it is incorrect. it has as good ibis than a7iii but the a7c is more lighter so more subject to all micro movements. By adding weight your remove or at least reduce a lot this micro movements. the grip extension also helps for photo for better grip and handle longer lenses like 70-300 more easily. The compact evf of A7C helps also when you connect a big flash like hvl-f60rm2, as the camera is flat and make the combo more compact.
If anyone else having the issue if lcd/viewfinder being too dark.. There is a goofy workaround that works. Just hit the exposure compensation dial and ramp it to full brightness. Just wildly overexposed. This will make the scene perfectly viewable in the moment. Compose your shot, then roll back down to proper exposure. Both of these motions are a single thumb twitch and can be done in a matter of moments. Granted a moment can be a missed photo in some cases... But for static subjects and many moving subjects, it's a fantastic work around. Saved me many times, as I shoot around Manhattan in broad daylight ha. Great video, though. You know a camera is awesome when you're happy to just watch someone else talk about how awesome it is ha.
@@DylanBlackburn Oh I misworded there. It's just an LCD problem. The viewfinder has adequate brightness, in my opinion. It's a bit hard to use as someone who wears glasses, but that's a whole different conversation. Also, I saw your square Leica type hood for the 24mm and just had to have one for my 35/2.8 Zeiss haha. I lost the lens cap in the city and was immediately like.. "oooh no.. *jumps on excuse to order like 2 minutes later* ." It really looks great with the range finder style body.
Got mine when it released. It has a full frame sensor. 4k video performs perfectly during night fireworks shows, outperforming any flagship smartphone from Apple & Samsung with their baby sensors. Samsung overprocesses their footage, especially photos. Photos with the a7c look perfect and natural.
Thanks for your video and input on this camera. I have had this camera for over a year now as I was planning on going to New Zealand with it, a trip that Covid-19 postponed on me. I use a Tamron 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 lens on it and love the variety of shots and genres I can shoot. I just love this camera! I started with the Sony a6000 and use the sony 16-50 lens on it so I am set to shoot anything when I travel. I also have a Canon 5D Mark II which now only comes out of the closet to shoot weddings due to its weight.
On my third watch of this video 😅 i bought my a7c mostly with video in mind, but it's so much more fun to use for me than other Sony cameras, it's constantly in my bag. Hope we get a II at some point with higher slomo capability and a better EF!
I enjoyed this video, you did a good job! I have an A7c here with me right now and also a Canon R6. I doing vids on each of them but secretly I am choosing between the 2 of them as one for myself personally. You are one of the few people that really connects with your camera and can talk intimately about about things on the camera that would go right over other peoples head. The A7c actually gives a touch of a Leica body feel, high quality in a stealth body. She's the one for you :) Thumbs up, I enjoyed your video 👍👍👍
Thank you! It’s so important that whatever camera you have feels like an extension of yourself when shooting. When you connect with your camera in that way, the specs and having the “best” become far less important.
Hi Dylan, I agree with you that there is something very tactile about the A7C that makes you want to pick it up and take photos. Since I bought mine, I have not used my A7iii, at all. I love the rangefinder style ( old 6000/6500 days remembered!) and have enjoyed a renewed love of smaller primes. Sony's 35 f1.8 is a dream on this body and I recently picked up the 50f2.5. Saying that, I don't mind using it with my 70-200 f4 or my other heavier lenses either. I use the camera's back dial for aperture changing and the middle dial for shutter speed changes. I have the Peak Design Capture Clip plate mounted on the bottom tripod mount and have two PD attachment threaded on to it for neck strap or wrist strap use. My biggest gripe with the A7C is the viewfinder which I do wish was brighter/sharper. Luckily, I have deep set eyes so do not have the trouble of having the sun render it unusable. I do have smaller hands so find the grip and ergonomics in general comfortable in use. I am definitely looking forward to the next iteration ( A7Cii) and will be buying it if their are enough improvements. I have the silver top model and must admit I just like looking at it as an elegant object in its own right much more than I ever have with my a7iii. Call me shallow!
Nice!! After picking up the 24mm G I’m strongly considering getting the 50mm 2.5 to pair with it. While I don’t own a 70-200, I have the 24-105 that stays on my FX3 most of the time for filming. Might throw it on my A7C and go out shooting with it one day. And I agree on the A7C being a beautiful camera. Something about it just looks so pleasant when compared to other cameras. It may be the silver which just looks so sleek.
The original A7R was compact and light which was my main reason for buying one back in 2013/14... Now with the 7R5 is getting bulkier almost feeling like a dslr
I just ordered the A7C used, and I am excited. I have a Fuji camera already and I am a fan of less buttons and a size/look that makes me want to shoot. Maybe just me :)
I just got my a7c and I love it so far! I do wanna note that there is an aperture dial to the right of the menu button that works only when you shoot in manual mode! When in other modes, the same dial seems to work only for the shutter speed. That’s what I’ve discovered so far.
I’ve owned the A7C for a few months now and honestly my only gripe so far is the screen brightness. In a lot of conditions it’s almost unusable. I still love the camera though and having purchased a separate display to connect via HDMI it’s helped resolve the issues.
I purchased an A7C yesterday. This is an experiment. I do street photography so small size and lightweight is important to me. I’ve never shot full frame. I wonder if it is noticeable better than crop sensor images. I also want to experience Sony autofocus. I was happy to see the Z battery was able to be included in the body. I have two batteries and that should be more than enough. I’m curious to see what the B&W jpeg files look like. I’m not too keen about the flip out screen. As a photographer the screen sticking out from the body makes me more visible. I’m looking forward to taking the A7C out for a spin. I need to set the camera up and the menu and Sony nomenclature is unfamiliar to me. I also have to purchase a lens. This is a small body. I don’t know of any compact bodies that have dual card slots. This is a feature that doesn’t matter to me. Once I’m set up look out Seattle streets. Here I come. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Awesome review man! I have the Canon M50 Mark II for filming UA-cam videos and shooting photos. I want to invest in a more better camera for both purposes so this review really helped thanks!
Canon M50 is super solid! But the Sony A7C is just on another level. I had both and love them both. I’ve been shooting with the Sony A7C for a year… no regrets!
I was soo excited about this camera and bought one but returned it immediately.. Two reasons, the viewfinder was a no-go and no front dial was also a sore miss for me. I'm an eyeglass wearer. I'm hoping version II addresses these two points plus whatever evolutionary updates.
No camera is perfect for everyone! Even though I love this camera, your reasons are completely valid and I don't blame you at all. Completely agree on the next A7C. For me at least, if it had a front dial and an improved EVF it would be perfect. Here's hoping that we get that and A7IV specs.
great video. Is the Sony a7c camera suitable for long-term filming? For example, two hours of non-stop record? Doesn't the temperature of the camera rise?
I agree. In 4 or 5 years when they will built a smaller chip than the bionz xr we could have an a7cm2 with 4k60 10 bits AI detection and active stabilization, the grip and dial of fx3 and an evf with an optional removable sun blocker. Better grip and chip, require an technology improvement so it won’t happen before 4 or 5 years. They should keep the a7c the same size as a1 but without the top big evf but keep a smaller ev (a bit bigger). That would satisfy a lot of people i bet.
Lovely summary of the camera! I'm looking at upgrading from my A7ii to this one, but the lack of a front dial has me a bit worried. You mentioned having aperture on the back dial and I saw that you have the smaller dial on the back set to shutter, how do you adjust the ISO? What's the simplest way to have access to all three quickly? :)
great reveiw and agree A7c has replaced everything i owned with exception of nikon Df - both cameras make me want to take photographs and are absolute wonderful - for my style i only have 4 zooms 16-35 CZ, 24-105 G 100-400 G master and the 28-60 pancake zoom - simple awesome
@@DylanBlackburn I use it for everything from portraits to u name it - an absolute no brainer recommendation- superb optics - A7c looks like part of the lens - it’s so small
Done the circuit. Sony A then over to Fuji for a while back to A7iii and A7Riv. The Fuji left an impression on my that size and weight did impact my photography but Sony always gave me photos I loved more. I got the A7C and 2 FE G primes, 24 and 50, and I am in the process of selling absolutely everything else I have, because this kit is THE most wonderful experience. Found your channel since then and I love it. Will watch on. I’m thinking to get a small zoom what would you suggest.
Love to hear it man! Glad you enjoyed the video! I highly recommend the Sigma 28-70 2.8 for the A7C. Pairs very well. I have a video about that as well!
This is a tough one. I have the a6600 and the A7R3, my baby. The a6600 is the perfect simple camera and would be absolutely perfect if it was fitted with a full size sensor. But knowing how to shoot so you don't have to crop much, the a6600 is great. I'm surprised Sony didn't take cue of the excellent design features of the a6600 and give the A7C a terrible EVF and bigger grip. Why? I don't know but it sure is an oversight. Hope their A7C mark 2 addresses these issues and manage to slip in a 33mp sensor. The a6600 is the perfect walk around camera. And the camera with APS-C lens are even smaller. Sony's new 10-20 PZ zoom (15-30mp FF equivalent) is incredible, tiny and ultra light, besides being ultra sharp. It's a tough decision. Depending on the seriousness of the product, a pro will go with FF while the person using it for general use is more than satisfied with the a6600.
I find ur videos v good end educative, thanks. i also own a Sony A7C. at 1:42, can u pls tell me what lens you are using? also at 1:42 the lenshood - can you please share the link to buy that, it looks cool. does it fit for any Sony lens?
For a primary video camera I would suggest the A7IV if you’re budget allows. (For the 10bit video) but the video out of this camera is great. The quality is noticeable better than other Sony 8 but video cameras and you get the flip out screen which is essential for video compared to the A7III
@@DylanBlackburn Gotcha! Thanks : ) I'm just worried about the rolling shutter on A7 IV which sometimes ruins the shot. Wish they fixed that from a firmware update
@@iamAnwesh sorry I forgot to mention the rolling shutter! With my shooting style, rolling shutter hasn’t been an issue but that doesn’t apply to everyone obviously. The A7IV may be the safer choice in your case.
When I had my a6300 I wanted a center evf. Now that I have the a7iv I really miss the offset evf for that exact reason. Shooting in portrait is more natural feeling. With the a7iv it just feels clunky. That’s probably my only complaint about that camera though.
Hey man, it's 2024 almost, this camera is at 1k euros at the moment. I have a budget of around 2k and would love to get the 35mm 1.4 GM (both are 2.1k), would you still get this camera? My other option would be the a6700, with the same lens
@@jairenstewal personally I’m a bit biased toward the 35mm focal length so I would probably choose the 35mm GM over the 50mm. The .2 f stop won’t be a big difference so it comes down to which focal length you prefer! I LOVE my 35mm GM
@@DylanBlackburn ahh right, that’s just make a lot of sense, 50mm is the vocal length that filled most of my workload, that’s why I’m dying on getting the 50, I’d love to get the 35mm 1.8 besides the 50mm, but I think it’s not wide enough if I’m going for a wider lens than the 50, so now I’m so confused to pick between 20mm 1.8 or 35mm 1.8, the price on the 20 also was higher. Anyways thank you so much for responding to my comments, really appreciate it, finally I can throw all this questions to someone who really use and understand the A7C 🙏🏻
The viewfinder is noticeably worse than those cameras. I mention in the video that I got used to it and came to prefer it over time. If you wear glasses you may struggle to use the viewfinder. I really don’t understand why they couldn’t at least use a viewfinder with the same magnification as the A6000 series. It definitely took a while to get used to
I highly recommend Prograde SD’s. The gold or silver ones they offer. Sandisk is always a great option but I suggest avoiding Lexar SD cards at all costs.
@@Kevins_Camera I’ve personally never used Lexar cards because I’ve read wayyy too many stories of them failing and that’s not a risk I want to take when I only have one SD card slot on the A7C haha
please tell me, when switching from photo mode to video mode, do you need to constantly re-adjust the exposure (for example, shutter speed) or can you adjust the exposure separately for the video and separately for the photo?
Great video, I’m also hoping that Sony continue to push out more rangefinder type models. Does anyone find the 1/4000 shutter speed to be limiting with the 1.4 lenses in brighter, outdoor shooting? I live in Florida and take general snap shots of friends and family outdoors a ton. Thanks!
Great video. I'm stuck between A7iv and A7c. My first camera after having Canon 550d 10 years ago. Which one would you recommend to go with? Mostly for video. And I'm thinking of getting either Sigma 24-70 or Sigma 28-70?
Is money an issue? If no, A7IV. If you want to save about a thousand dollars, go with the A7C and pick up the Sigma 24-70. The difference between 24 and 28 is bigger than you think; you'll be glad you got the wider view. I chose to go the A7C route and am extremely happy with my choice.
@@Inazuchi thank you. Do you feel any challenges when trying to add /change color with an 8bit footage? I have this challenge with my DJI Osmo Pocket and footage just starts falling apart.
@@iFarAway Nope! I've tried doing colors in both the Adobe Suite and Davinci Resolve; works great in both. Try shooting SLOG2 and bump the saturation up to 18+, details down -7, and set it to scinegamut3. There's a lot of videos about the best slog settings but I've found I have tons of flexibility with the dynamic range for even the most intense LUTs.
Excellent video! I made a decision to get the a6600 over the a7c full frame ONLY because I love the basic tilt lcd, better grip and the only difference its apsc
I picked up a gently used a7c earlier this year and its great. I find however that certain lenses cause issues with the IBIS, or rather the IBIS "knocks" or "rattles" with longer lenses and its quite audible. For example my sony 85mm 1.8 will sometimes cause this knocking effect. Idk if its an issue with the lens because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt. Seems to fix itself when I shut the camera off and turn it back on. Is this a common thing with this camera body?

Canon M50 is super solid! But the Sony A7C is just on another level. I had both and love them both. I’ve been shooting with the Sony A7C for a year… no regrets!
best ever review .... 100% agree to buy this one soon. thank you so much, brother.
Happy to help! Thanks for watching :)

I'm using the RX100 7 at the moment. And the best part is it's size and portability. I am thinking about adding an A7 in the future.
I think 6:34 repeated itself ? Maybe I’m tripping. Great review though. I thought about getting one but I’m stuck with canon lol
Ah you’re right! Editing error I didn’t catch. Oh well!
Literally my dream camera there 🙌🏻
Thanks a lot Dylan 👍 sure my next caméra 🥰
I love my A7C :)
great reveiw and agree
A7c has replaced everything i owned with exception of nikon Df - both cameras make me want to take photographs and are absolute wonderful - for my style i only have 4 zooms 16-35 CZ, 24-105 G 100-400 G master and the 28-60 pancake zoom - simple awesome
Nice!! Jealous of that 100-400 GM :)
@@DylanBlackburn I use it for everything from portraits to u name it - an absolute no brainer recommendation- superb optics - A7c looks like part of the lens - it’s so small
Just recently purchased this camera with the 28-60 kit lens
4:20 What a first world problem 🤣! Thanks for mentioning the hat, it’s actually something that I encounter as well.
I’ve watched most (if not all) your α7C videos. Really didn’t need this update video when I’m trying so hard not to spend the money on this camera 😭
Thank you so much!! Don’t break the bank over anything you don’t necessarily “need” but if you did buy this camera… you wouldn’t regret it!
Just get it
Really want this camera for my street photography, so that I can keep my A7IV and A7iii for weddings only.
Still shooting my A7C. Some 45,000 shots now. I don't see myself upgrading any time soon.
I find ur videos v good end educative, thanks. i also own a Sony A7C. at 1:42, can u pls tell me what lens you are using?
also at 1:42 the lenshood - can you please share the link to buy that, it looks cool. does it fit for any Sony lens?
hello, have you still use a7c?or upgrade to other sony camera?
an honest opinion thank you.
I using A7c for sport and street, Is beast🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic video. Please can I ask what camera strap are you using? Is it the Peak Design Slide or Slide Lite?
I used to use the Slide, but recently I picked up a leather strap compatible with PD anchors by Clever Supply Co!
Hey Dylan, whats your thought on getting this camera for a primary video creator in 2022? Is it worth it? How's the rolling shutter performance?
For a primary video camera I would suggest the A7IV if you’re budget allows. (For the 10bit video) but the video out of this camera is great. The quality is noticeable better than other Sony 8 but video cameras and you get the flip out screen which is essential for video compared to the A7III
@@DylanBlackburn Gotcha! Thanks : )
I'm just worried about the rolling shutter on A7 IV which sometimes ruins the shot.
That’s probably my only complaint about that camera though.
use a hotshoe thumb grip!!!! I got one off amazon for my a7c and it totally changedmy life
I’ve been considering picking one up! Maybe soon I’ll try one out.
Hiya, I would like to buy the A7C as a travel camera, but I only want to take 1 lens. Which lens would you take, and why ?
A 35mm lens would be the best option IMO. Or a Sigma 28-70. I have a lot of videos on this topic!
Brother a7rii picture quality same a7c or what different in two camra body.... a7r2 is best for a7iii in photography lowlight in...please guide me
Hey man, it's 2024 almost, this camera is at 1k euros at the moment. I have a budget of around 2k and would love to get the 35mm 1.4 GM (both are 2.1k), would you still get this camera?
My other option would be the a6700, with the same lens
Haha I actually made a video about this a couple weeks ago! Go check it out. The short answer is YES. It’s still worth it.
Hi Dylan, been following you for a while for your A7C videos, I have one question, what do you think on pairing the A7C with 50mm 1.2 GM?
The 50mm GM will be pretty bulky paired the A7C but it’s a beast of lens! I would love to get my hands on one.
@@DylanBlackburn how do you say if compared to the 35mm GM? I mean, is it still worth getting the 50mm? or is it better just to get the 35mm GM?
@@DylanBlackburn one more thing dylan, which one would you recommend more between Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-II and Sony Tough G UHS-II for A7C?
How is the weather sealing on it?
How is the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM lens breathing when shooting video on the A7C?
Great video
Hmm…I heard many complaints about the viewfinder magnification size. How does it compare to a6xxx or Sony a7iii series?
The viewfinder is noticeably worse than those cameras. I mention in the video that I got used to it and came to prefer it over time. If you wear glasses you may struggle to use the viewfinder. I really don’t understand why they couldn’t at least use a viewfinder with the same magnification as the A6000 series. It definitely took a while to get used to
@@DylanBlackburn Thank you for the reply! I guess that’s gonna be a dealbreaker for me unfortunately…
What higher quality SD cards do you recommend l? Like your top 3 most reliable cost not an issue.
I highly recommend Prograde SD’s. The gold or silver ones they offer. Sandisk is always a great option but I suggest avoiding Lexar SD cards at all costs.
@@DylanBlackburn oooo that sucks 🤣🤣 Lexars are the ones I have that I thought were good lol but now I know. Thanks man. 🥲
U use this camera with zeis 55. Any idea for a lens to take height building?
The problem with the A7c is the lens selection sizes. What's currently out are front-heavy.
Heavily disagree there. Plenty of lightweight, compact lenses available
What? They're so many lens to pick from
Thanks for your videos, but did you hear internal parts rattle when you shake the camera? Anyone have the same problem ?
You’re probably hearing the IBIS from the sensor move. If it’s kind of “blocky” (if that makes sense) rattle, then it’s completely normal!
@@DylanBlackburn thanks man. I did some research and now I understand. I love your videos !
Great video :)
Thanks honey!!
You did not touch the subject that this camera has no option to turn off EFCS, which affects banding/bokeh.
Without a joystick how do you move the focal point around? Can you do that with the D pad?
How?
Touch screen...
Thanks!
Use an ND filter...
You can use the electronic shutter and get 1/8000th of a second plus minimizes bokeh issues.
Should I get this just to get into the Sony eco system. It’s a lot cheaper than the a74
I think it’s a great starting point!
Watched this on my Nikon z50 😊
Good! Would like to buy for video. What objective do u advise?)
This is a great camera for video!
@@Inazuchi thank you so much!!
@@iFarAway I’ve been grading A7C footage with Phantom Luts which are designed for the A7SIII and FX3 and still looks fantastic.
Excellent video! I made a decision to get the a6600 over the a7c full frame ONLY because I love the basic tilt lcd, better grip and the only difference its apsc
Understandable! I would love if this camera had the A6600 grip.
You could auto backup to an mobile FTP server.
That’s interesting. I haven’t ran into that issue. I suggest joining the A7C group on Facebook and asking there if anyone else has ran into this issue
@@DylanBlackburn thanks for the heads up
Stopp the music, I’d like to listen what you say!
I wish Sony would put an aperture ring on the lense, similar to Fugi.
Some of them have this feature now.
6.35
Selling my A7iv to buy a A7C 😁
Why? Is it because of the weight?
@@doo847 that was a joke lol a lot of people sell there gear to buy other gear when UA-camrs speak good things about a camera
i've been subscribed and bought your preset. but please can you stop vocal frying? lstening to you hurts when you do that.
I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I’m literally just talking?
