This video allowed me (an 80-year-old woman, without a man in sight) the confidence and the clear instructions to set and bait and remove (ARRRGH!) mice in my home. Thank you.
Yes it’s designed like that to prevent damage incase of dry fire and to make it easier to remove the dispatched rodent. Without the red plastic piece the kill bar may come down with enough force that it can Decapitate the rodent making a mess, or become lodge in the body creating sort of a fish hook effect which would result in you needing to actually touch the dead rodent. The trap was also designed with humility in mind, modifying it in any way would also not offer the rodent a painless death. Please leave it as is.
The best trap for a few reasons. 1 you can release and reset the trap with your foot wearing shoes or work boots. 2 It is quick and humane. 3 I grab a plastic bag and remove the deceased by it's tail. 4 I don't have to rebait the trap. 4 I don't have to handle the trap with my hands. Brings up the saying if you want to change things build a better mouse/ rat trap. 👍
i have them right now with the bait cleaned off and not sprung. you kick it and it then snaps. sometimes they work sometimes they dont. get a wood or metal old fashioned rat trap if you want to catch anything. Jam a nut in it so they have to tug at it. I use this for squirrels, chipmunks all the time.
The smell of rat on the trap will actually make it more effective. Unless your cleaning for using in a kitchen ect , a dirty trap will be more effective.

Should I leave the red plastic piece on the kill bar?

I was an exterminator. The green poison bar, by it's self is only semi-effective.
