Great restart of Generalmusic. After more then 10 years this is still one of the best sounding digital piano's ever. DRAKE technology is fabulous, and Promega is the best sampling and physical modelling hybrid so far. I still love my ProMega 3, and I personally do not understand why you did not start with the flagship and then launch derived 'smaller' models later, like we did when we developed ProMega 3. BTW, time is ready now for a remake of the legendary Synthex....hope to meet you guys in Superbooth next week. Good Job.
Thanks, At last good news about GEM - I was always very convinced about promega piano, this piano is awsome. wasn't hoping to have one ever since no continuation. Now it's back and only problem of founds:).
Sounds like a great 80s sampled workstation. Not sure if its something that cant be done with fairly cheap VSTs though, some of the sounds remind me of a mix of fm synths and something like the m1 maybe just a bit more high fi sounding. Other sounds are a bit like General MIDI you get in a cheap casio but spiced up a little. Still useable sounds and cut it some slack because it is a remake of a stage piano from over 15 years ago but seeming you can pick up a lot of rack romplers from that time period for real cheap (like the EMU stuff) not sure if Id pay retail for a remake of that era of digital synths/pianos/workstations.
I think the piano sounds fantastic; I'd certainly buy just the piano (sampled + modelling) for about 1/3 the price of the whole unit. Perhaps in the future make a more streamlined piano-only version for around $900 USD?
Back in the 80's this would have been a cracking keyboard, 2017 I'm not so sure. I can see why its been endorsed by (some of the great) over 60's keyboard players
I have the original, which sadly has had a failure on one of its circuit boards. When it was working, the Fazioli grand sound was simply sublime, as was the sympathetic resonance emulation.
I don't think that this is serious competition for my Yamaha CP4 Stage which "only" costs 2k Euro. GEM has had a very nice module, the RP-X, if I remember its name correctly. But that's about it. In every other aspect you'll find other gear which is superior to GEM's. I remember Keith Emerson playing one of their digital grand pianos back in the mid 90ies. It didn't sound bad but it also didn't sound really special either. GEM has to come up with something better if they'd like to be a serious competitor to the establishment. What about a heavily updated version of a RP-X module for a start?
Trying to decide between this and a Kawai MP11. I like the fact the MP11 has a built in recorder but I like the fact this has a wider pallet of sound and a lot of it is modeling.
Better to have both :) I assume that MP12 would be a very mature product. BTW, Roland new RD-2000 sounds not bad also if you look for full of features... But I am sure you should not regret if you get PM2+... Good Luck!
EverettDudgeon138 I think you should get Kawai MP11 or its updated model then. Promega 2+ is a fantastic instrument but nothing seems to be new comparing previous Promega models. I have a PM3 by the way. Alternatively, you may like to check Kurzweil Forte if the action is not your foremost priority... Cheers
When I Worked at Turnkey I was telling everyone who cared about their sound to get the gem 2 or 3. The 3 is my dream stage piano. I'm always hunting eBay for one.. but they never turn up. who would let one go.
So, very impressive sound...but, what happened at 3:32 with the sudden 'ding' in the string sounds? It seems to have increased in velocity noticeably and suddenly - which could be unacceptable in a live performance situation... should not a 'gradual increase be built into the performance algorithm to prevent such artifacts?
Why would you buy this over a Nord Stage 3, Kronos, Montage etc? Crazy money. The Fazioli sounded not too bad I suppose, but Nord have a good rendition of this piano in it's library. I just don't see the gap in the market for this.
i cant help it, but this promega 2+ thing is somehow quite shaky .. oO .. i visited the GEM booth yesterday and the GEM guy said there was a new sound processor inside or so ... i played it some minutes but honestly, there was just too much ambient noise and lousy headphones to judge about the sound .. but anyway, i am not sure it might be significantly better than my good old promega 3. the demo songs here on youtube are just exactly the same that are in my pro3. and the specs seem to be the same as they were from those old promega 2/3 from around year 2000.... ? promega 2/3 was very cool 15 years ago, but something like 3000 euros/pounds/dollars is ridiculous. dont get me wrong, i really like my promega 3, but at that price tag i would have expected a completely new and up2date sound engine and a 3 sensor keyboard etc. well maybe this could at least be some ideas for a possible promega 3+. :) (and make a 97 key version for the bösendorfer fans! ;D )
This guy needs some classical piano lessons. Look at his shoulders everytime he plays. That means he builds up a tension in his upper body incl. his hands. And that means he can´t have a good technique which can be seen and heard. But ok - for the keyboard parts of a Pink Floyd cover it´s good enough.
GEM is very horrble, Yamaha is best.
Never heard a worse performer than this guy. If GEM wanted to make a good presentation about theirselves, they should hire someone who actually knows how to play the keyboard.
i bet he laughs loud reading your ignorant little comment. Paul Wiffen is a master genius sound magician. He once played in Paris in front of 2 million people biggest consert in history. He worked at Apple for years,he worked as a sound designer and player for stevie wonder, Valgelis,Mark Isham and Hans Zimmer,he make movies-documentaries. I think you are lame and that wasn't a performance just some classic pieces to showcase a classic piano synthesizer...
quite a judgemental comment. i did not know him myself. But thought he was witty funny and very entertaining. like i said: BEST DEMO COWBOY MAN EVER!!!

i'm glad to see other keyboard brands rising, such as dexibell, ketron, studiologic and GEM
I never realised so many elite concert pianists were subscribed to this channel!
So, my Promega 3 is born again !! Good news !
Thanks, At last good news about GEM - I was always very convinced about promega piano, this piano is awsome. wasn't hoping to have one ever since no continuation. Now it's back and only problem of founds:).
How many piano players are gritting their teeth watching this guy play?
I'm sick of seeing players better than me on the Internet so this was refreshing 😏
@@cgmuso6619 lmao! Same, in a weird way
When did Ed Sheeran start working for Sound On Sound?
🤣
My point exactly! Lol
If David Brent did instrument demos.
One day I will design a keyboard with a sample library so massive that each note will require it's own hard drive LOL
You'll sample each note at 1PetaHertz I guess using 1 terrabyte bit depth, well beyond the audible range of anything alive in the universe :-D
You are hired my good man :-)
i will wait for you

they own elka? rebuild the synthax bloody quickly before you go out of business with this crap
Sounds just like the RP-X, which I owned and liked...in 2005.
I have the same impression.
Simon Hoban Me too, still have it... But it is not strong as Promegas, especially when layered with other sounds, namely strings...
I have the original, which sadly has had a failure on one of its circuit boards. When it was working, the Fazioli grand sound was simply sublime, as was the sympathetic resonance emulation.
Nobuo Uematso would love this..
Luv this guy!!!!

The instrument sounds good...
this guy is awesome!
I know ! Funny and talented - hidden sarcasm LOL most don't get it !
my thoughts too, lovely playing.
Ed just realized he walked into a 90's time capsule
This thing sounds really good actually.
Trying to decide between this and a Kawai MP11. I like the fact the MP11 has a built in recorder but I like the fact this has a wider pallet of sound and a lot of it is modeling.
EverettDudgeon138 Should wait for MP12...
Yeah but that's been "Coming soon" for a while now.
Better to have both :) I assume that MP12 would be a very mature product. BTW, Roland new RD-2000 sounds not bad also if you look for full of features... But I am sure you should not regret if you get PM2+... Good Luck!
I tried the RD-2000 and hated it. Also saw a Sound On Sound review of the Promega 2+ and it wasn't really favorable.
EverettDudgeon138 I think you should get Kawai MP11 or its updated model then. Promega 2+ is a fantastic instrument but nothing seems to be new comparing previous Promega models. Best part 5:48 "SOS face" to basse demos!
and again at 6:05 (pino palladino in a box ...)
Wao, what a pianist! He can play only octave
with left hand! Gosh!
The SOS guy (ED ;)) is too funny!! LOL Funniest camera looking ever
Especially when the guy says" Pino Palladino" in a box. And he has a cold so it sounded like something else. 5:57. Pido Palladino. Oops.
When I Worked at Turnkey I was telling everyone who cared about their sound to get the gem 2 or 3. The 3 is my dream stage piano. I'm always hunting eBay for one.. but they never turn up. who would let one go.
Poly AT ?
sounds like GM
The guy who's interviewing is just looking at the guy like "what is he doing "
BEST DEMO COWBOY MAN EVER
I wonder if it supports midi connectivity 🤔

It seems to have increased in velocity noticeably and suddenly - which could be unacceptable in a live performance situation... should not a 'gradual increase be built into the performance algorithm to prevent such artifacts?
I have a prom eager 2 old style love it however there is a piano pulse every time I press play on ProTools anybody got any ideas about that please
The interviewer's face after 3:38.. "what the heck was that?" LOL!
piano sound fine.
Why would you buy this over a Nord Stage 3, Kronos, Montage etc? Crazy money. The Fazioli sounded not too bad I suppose, but Nord have a good rendition of this piano in it's library. I just don't see the gap in the market for this.

(and make a 97 key version for the bösendorfer fans! ;D )
WoW ... 3k ?!!!! This brand must do more research ....
...and Dale North, I am!
I want one. Just don't want to pay for it though 😉
does it have poly after as the gem s3 turbo
No
Too bad, Poly AT would be the only valid selling point for this machine those days...
This guy is funny!
I had a GEM S3 in 2006... I think it's no different from this... Isn't it?
7:38
say what now
5:58 Better let him out.
Want!! Damn why is it so expensive... :(
About 3000 Euro.. it's mentioned somewhere in the video.
On a second thought it isn't as nice as the old version tho.. too brittle. Heard it only on my mobile before.
My God, That was like watching paint dry. Hope he isn’t the rep for GEM or they will never sell anything.
.....put it on the interweb.....hehhheh
Horrible demo of an instrument👎!..I wasn't sure which was on display; the keyboard or the guy playing it?🙁..
reminds me of Budd from "kill bill"...
mod wheel misplacement ...

Absolutely not convinced by this demo regarding the price, it sounds cheap but maybe it is just not my taste...
The "String" sound from 3:30 is horrible!
?? I've head much worse, e.g. Motif XF preset strings...
I'm sure you have, I'm just saying I'm not impressed by this..each to their own
nice sounding synth but not too exciting
Ehhh suona bene
Im sorry to say this "the sound is thin and sounded plastic"
Many lows, thin mids
This is unnatural for an acoustic piano ...
Nord. much better.
Waste of time and money
very outdated piano sounds
Ese contrabajo suena horrible, el bajo eléctrico, el fretless bass, los string también suenan horrible, parece un Casio. Yamaha se lo lleva por delante mil veces. Definitivamente Yamaha es mejor. GEM is very horrble, Yamaha is best.
Sounds vastly outdated, like romplers from 2007.
my Yamaha PSR sounds better
Never heard a worse performer than this guy. If GEM wanted to make a good presentation about theirselves, they should hire someone who actually knows how to play the keyboard.
Goran ̇ Yeah, like Bert Smorenburg....
dislike for holding too much hold/sustain padel
watched your videos, jesus christ you suck! so do better before talking crap about the legendary Paul Wiffen
What a lame performance))
i bet he laughs loud reading your ignorant little comment. Paul Wiffen is a master genius sound magician. He once played in Paris in front of 2 million people biggest consert in history. I think you are lame and that wasn't a performance just some classic pieces to showcase a classic piano synthesizer...
Really he is? What a crazy world))
He did all that, huh? His performance sure doesn't speak to any of it.
Seems like a nice enough guy though.
quite a judgemental comment. i did not know him myself. But thought he was witty funny and very entertaining. like i said: BEST DEMO COWBOY MAN EVER!!!
