Amy Lee is definitely an incredible singer and a powerhouse in rock music. Funnily enough, both this song and "Bring Me to Life" were prominently featured in the 2003 superhero movie "Daredevil".
Those two songs were the reason I bought the DD soundtrack. I felt silly when I found out it was the same band. Immediately went out and bought Fallen.
I just saw Evanescence last night (3/17/2023) at Madison Square Garden opening for Muse. When Amy Lee played piano and Sang this Song, it was down right hauntingly beautiful. I can't even describe how good it was.
I am grown a$$ man and this song always brings me to tears ... I saw them in concert 3 times and there was not a dry eye left in the place when Amy would do this song with just her and the piano ...
This was the first time I have heard this song since my wife left me... we had been married for 20 years, and even though she has been gone for over 4 years now, hearing this song just brought up all those old feelings and now its just so hard to see the screen to type this.
I feel ya, man. I, too, have this song in my "Hurt" folder... whenever i feel sanguine, I play it and re-feel all the pain to remind me to be a better man, should I ever get another bite at the apple that is love.
This is just gorgeous. I love female singers like Amy and Kate Bush who sound so quintessentially feminine, not just in terms of the notes, but the tone, the emotion, and everything else. As a guy, it just hits me in a place I can't reach or even conceive of on my own.

I was in college way back in the early 2000s. A friend sent me the Daredevil soundtrack, which featured 2 Evanescence songs "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal." Their first album wasn't even out yet, and I could not wait to get it based on those two songs.
I remember beeing blown away by this song back when it was first released when I was in my teens, but man, now 20 years later, with all the experiences I've been through, it hits different, it cuts deep!
That instrumental where no one expects it when they’ve never listened before is everything. This song is a masterpiece, it takes me back to 2003, such a great year!

I am absolutely in love with Amy Lee here. Her voice and the music of Evanescence just fill me with energy and awe at the sheer talent and beauty there.
I believe I can confidently say that if you ever get tired of the Opera scene, you would *definitely* kick major butt as the lead singer of a symphonic metal band! 🤘😎🤘
Amy Lee is my favorite singer, she sings with so much passion and emotion, and has the ability to make you feel the emotion of the song, a very rare talent in a singer
Amy Lee's voice in the song is pure silk and it evokes so much emotion. To me this is her best work as far as ballads go. Its one of my favorites of all time. I never get tired of listening to this and I always feel the same emotions when I hear it. Love your reaction review.
Both this song and their other big hit bring me to life were songs I always wanted to sing when I was upset because they are vocally challenging unlike most pop songs. When I'm anxious or angry or frustrated and I feel like I'm coming out of my body I've found singing to be a way to pay attention to the things in my body that I can control (breath, mouth shape, posture etc.) And it gets me out of my head and back into my body and my regular personality. These two songs and I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls by Anuna and she used to be mine from waitress are the four songs I'm most likely to sing when I'm upset.
i haven't heard this in so long..... i've lost 2 brothers one blood one by choice a brother since i've heard this and it shattered me i ended up in ball on the ground crying mess
Amy Lee, what can anybody say about her voice and beauty, she is in a league of her own. I have heard this song, sung by pros and amateurs alike and non, have even come close to the beautiful voice and sound of the original.
It sounds to me like the first harmonic in her singing is stronger than the base. This is what makes it sound so bright and clear. I heard that once pointed out on Pavarotti including a spectrogram.
Isn't it funny how that whole album sounds like a "best of.." to us, today? This song was playing when I drove to my parents. To tell them that my gf was parting from me. So I remember that song very well.
You should check out some of her stuff from the Synthesis album. They reworked some of their music with orchestral and electronica arrangements. I actually saw them on this tour and Amy Lee's voice which they were accompanied on stage by a different 28-piece orchestra in each city they played in was AMAZING! The songs "Lacrymosa" and "Imaginary" actually made the hair stand up all over for me, it was that good live. Her voice is amazing.

This song while sad and powerful is nothing compared to Hello from her. In fact I've never heard her sing this or make a video since making it. Its just a masterpiece and a tear jerker
I would love to see your reaction to the song call of the mountains by Eluveitie. They are a Celtic folk metal band. Many of their videos feature instruments that you don't see in modern music like the hurdy gurdy, lyre, bagpipes and violin.
I would love to see you react to a singer named Maitre Gims. While he sings in French, there's a song with Gims and Sting called Reste. It would be interesting to see your reaction to this duet.
I think you'd really enjoy all that I bleed by savatage. The live version. They were a highly underrated progressive metal band. Their combination of piano, guitars, drums along with Zachary Steven's incredible vocals, no one sounds like them.
Great reaction Maggie!! This song definitely brings the nostalgia of younger years when this song came out. You are absolutely spot on that the song is a rollercoaster.......... a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the song. Amy has that voice that captivates you from the beginning note. Perfect placement of when the full band comes into the song and then falls back out and finishes off with that beautiful piano. If you notice in the video Amy never touches the ground, that is to resemble her as a spirit. In Amy's case, a perfect angel! ⛲😁
The Kansas/Arkansas thing has an explanation. Too bad the answer won't get to the person who was so upset. The territory, before it became a state, was known as both Arkansas (like Kansas) and Arkansaw. When they ratified statehood, they needed to choose one. The legislature decided to use the spelling of one and the pronunciation of the other.
Another classic Maggie reaction. Ah the old dorm room and all. LOL. Love this song, amy lee's voice is so ethereal. Just stunning. And love when you sing it on the live's. Need to hear it this weekend perhaps?

Evanescence is one of those bands where you should always just go for a live performance. All the instrumentalists are so damn consistent, good musicians doesn't even start to describe them. Then there's Amy's voice, the only thing more beautiful than her eyes... There is really good footage of the band doing this song in a massive venue, where Amy plays the piano under her phenomenal singing. Imho, that performance is better than the album recording...
