This is wonderful in its charm and innocence. Many thanks, John Hall. Where do you find all these treasures? You have unearthed Pavlova films I never knew existed and it feels such a privilege to be able to see them. A person can't thank you enough.
AL45757 yes, charm and innocence are the very words. i find most in old Russian documentaries from the 50's, 60's and 70's as for the Pavlova footage two YT Pavlova researchers from the V and A in London have helped me find a lot of the rarer things i put up here hope i am lucky enough to find more interesting things to upload! glad you're liking what's on the channel - cheers!
@@JohnRaymondHall Sadly he is and his music is so wonderful, Esmeralda, Ondine, La Vivandier, Pharaoh's Daughter.. Pas de Quatre, Satanella... and none available on a DVD
Dear John! Thank you for sharing! But I can't see any Russian folk dance here (exept the crown and the hands at the beginning of the solo). I would say it's rather Antirussian dance. I just read some discussions about the first version of the "Swan lake" and came across an abstract from one of the first critics where somebody wrote that the thing with jumps und pirouettes can't hardly be concidered being a Russian dance. It's the same case here in my opinion. On my site I have a number of samples of Russian dances. The first with Kurgapkina is from you. Thanks a lot again. passionballet.topf.ru/viewtopic.php?id=230#p2720
hi passionballet.topf.ru thanks for that clarification - and very interesting about the critics reactions to steps they did not consider Russian - my idea of Russian folk dance and how it should be realised in chore is an uninformed outsider's one, in need of correcting - so sincerely thanks for that - it's put a idea for judgment in my mind for future use. i'll start by having another look at your site - good to post the URL - and great the YT allows finally URLs to be included in 'comments'.
hi again i just registered for your PASSIONBALLET FORUM and am waiting the email (at with the password - thanks for the link! just received the password! cheers

passionballet.topf.ru thanks for offering to chat there - really appreciated! with translating i use the Google Translator and probably make horrible comment replies in Russian - so glad of any help with going from Russian to English - while i speak French, some Chinese, Japanese and Tagalog (Philippines national language) i know only three words in Russian - which i just picked up from the USA TV series 'Sex and the City' - not a bone fide course!!

This is precious, I love Ninel and I love this ballet (with music of Pugni, not Shchedrin)
i love her too - and prefer the Pugni music
@@JohnRaymondHall Pugni's is so much more melodic and suitable for ballet
