Guys! you are narcotical! Pavle mi pie, I don't dare to say, but now to me is sound even better than original folk song :) You took that song, and made, I bet, the best version how that authentic song can sound the most brightly and extended in metal version (or maybe I didn't heard something another better ) :) Big big love and respect to you, of your dedication and work, from your distant tribal times relative - Baltic region Lithuania!

Indeed. The only other hard version of Pavle mi pie that I've heard so far is by Obraten Efekt, but while pretty great itself, it's not really true to the original lyrics.
Still, it's interesting that someone from Lithuania, of all places, would know about this song or this band. How did you come by it/them?

@@NikeBG Actually, to say honestly - I don't remember how exactly ;D but I can prove, that force, which always led me to discover such things was my personal interests and my personal life - I studying ethnomusicology, research, play folk music of diverse, various cultures, mostly from my country and Eastern Europe, and one of the most interesting points to me was folk, traditional music keeping, living way in this ,,modern" century :) I have my personal opinion, about ,,modernism" level in ,,modernity", but it's also obvious, that we don't live like in the XIX century village life conditions :) so, I really was interested in neo folk phenomenas in different ways - folk rock, folk metal, neo paganism, pagan metal, alternative and neo pagan culture festivals, and etc. Don't want to make a advertisement to my work, but Lithuania also have a really strong background of alternative music scene, where we have a circle of exactly folk rock, folk metal, pagan metal music lovers, and audition :) we had festivals like ,,Kilkim Žaibu", ,,Mėnuo Juodaragis", which are dedicated exactly to realise idea of saving and keeping native culture, which never changes itself (values, customs, language) - in modern way :) those current months I live in Bulgaria, and have a nice, good time for observe, see, hear, how Bulgarians deals with their own native cultural identity, traditional music and custom keeping, but also pretending to be a modern state :) Actually, I really inlove with Bulgaria, cause really admires, how you still preserving your identity, without wish to sell it for capitalism :) I mean, when I came and was in Bulgaria - I don't feel so far from my country, like I felt that cultural distance in America, or France or Germany, and etc... I mean, Lithuanians are really patriotic and really well deals with saving our old culture and also with seeking a way also to be a modern state :) same sense I have in Bulgaria, where people have some mentality similarities with us :) of course, I don't know all bulgarians and don't visit all places and didn't live so much time, etc., but what I experienced now, to me made such impressions :) p.s. - I yesterday just listened a concert of Балканджи and Кhanъ. To hear Khanъ have been my old dream, and Балканджи, which I didn't heard before - was само просто чудесно phenomena!!! I adored, how people love those bands and how they supports, sings together ;) Really great experience :)

@@NikeBG and p.s. - yes, I also listened Павле ми пие version by Obraten Efekt, and can say same... that they are really groovy in their interpretation way, but if I returning to impressions about Khanъ version for this song - Khanъ deffinately takes my symphaties!

@@greta116 That's fascinating! Can you point me to some Lithuanian folk metal band (or folk rock or any other folk-modernized form)? I'm also very interested in both authentic and modernized folklore and while I have a couple of good Lithuanian friends, I've actually listened to only a few examples from them (Ūkanose, Skyforger (who are Latvians, of course) and Donis, in addition to general rock and metal, like Rebelheart and SBS). From what I've heard of Lithuanian folk music, it's quite good and I really loved Ūkanose (one of about only half a dozen bands on my phone), so I'd love to hear more variations of it.
As for similarities in our mentality - well, we also have similarities in history, which has partially shaped our mentality. We were both "behind the Iron Curtain" (although BG wasn't a part of the USSR and we seemed more welcoming towards it), we've both been under foreign domination for a long time, while at the same time we can both boast of our medieval glory etc. That's bound to create some similarities between us, whereas the fate of the Western countries has often been different.
Oh, and I really like Balkandji as well. They're probably the first case of Bulgarian folk metal I had heard (Khanъ being the second) and which provoked my interest in the genre. Otherwise, it seems we mostly mix our folklore with other genres (which isn't bad either, sometimes it's actually great, but I'm personally a fan of the heavier sound in general).

@@NikeBG - I can write separate artickle about what Lithuania has in neo folk scene :D I mean - we have so incredibly huge variety and diversity of neo folk wave bands, performers and etc., that it's so hard, or even impossible to mention every pearl of that scene in one time or artcikle :) (neo folk, world, electronica with folk, folk rock, folk metal, pagan, pagan black metal). p.s. - I wanted to mention Ūkanose as recommendation, till I didn't saw, that you already mentioned it (If you want, I can tell you more widier about this band, but not here, cause I have a secret possiblity/privilege to talk about it) :) From pagan metal scene I will show you two mains: ,,Obtest" - it's alive legend of pagan metal scene. ua-cam.com/video/W_jesztjyPw/v-deo.html - ,,from Generation to Generation". from album : ua-cam.com/video/TcWXJk0gDfc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/2guqiRtqFdA/v-deo.html - ,,Rites". It's song about sacral aspect of Fire, in nation's life. from album ,,Tree of life" ua-cam.com/video/Xnk8ffWbouk/v-deo.html. Lyrics was just haunting... I mean, Obtest music is as much strong, as their lyrics. Main refrain of song ,,Rites"
,,Opened the wound, flows the blood
Everything is burning in everywhere, and cleaning by the Fire.
Who believes in created by their own hand
Slaved by the Mind, will be blinded by the heart.
Or it was the pray, or the travel
From which already nobody never will not return?
Or you will give your fear, will bow in front of
The Life, if somebody will ask of it?.".
Second pearl - ,,Juodvarnis". Name means literally - ,,Black Raven". and it shows ideas, which inspires the band: relation between alive and dead people worlds, reincarnation, lithuanian and other nations mythology, eternity, death. ua-cam.com/video/MjmxLJYFJ3U/v-deo.html - from album ,,Šauksmai iš praeities". www.pakartot.lt/album/sauksmai-is-praeities2. You can find more albums of that band in portal ,,pakartot.lt".
Folk rock: Classical bands: Atalyja and Žalvarinis. ,,Atalyja" - litterally means - ,,it rains''/,.comes as rain". For example, some pieces: www.pakartot.lt/album/atalyja/liepa2 - ,,Liepa" - ,,Linden". composition, based on pulsation and just polyphonical lithuanian chant ,,sutartinė", which demands separate book, artickle and time for talking about it :) Chant lyrics about linden tree, which have nine branches, and how went strong wind and broke that branches... it was metaphora to, how mother had nine daughters, and one day came a guy for choose a girl, and mother asked him - ,,please, leave even one girl to me".composition, based on pulsation and just polyphonical lithuanian chant ,,sutartinė", which demands separate book, artickle and time for talking about it :) Chant lyrics about linden tree, which have nine branches, and how went strong wind and broke that branches... it was metaphora to, how mother had nine daughters, and one day came a guy for choose a girl, and mother asked him - ,,please, leave even one girl to me". From album ,,Atalyja" - www.pakartot.lt/album/atalyja.
ua-cam.com/video/4jR2AIyOcuI/v-deo.html - ,,Trys keturiose" - another arrangement of another one polyphonical chant, which is about ,,linen process". :) from same album ,,Atalyja".
ua-cam.com/video/ud36KhXKyOA/v-deo.html - ,,Gerkit svečiai" - ,,Let's go drink, guests". Feast song :) from same album.
ua-cam.com/video/KmA6SsLo0ew/v-deo.html - ,,Šiaurum vėjum". It's one of those songs, which are more arranged ithan in normal way. MOre jazzy. :) and actually, that song shows ancient lithuanians mentality and opinion about the death. We believed in metempsychosis/reincarnation. Our family members - reincarnates into the sun, moon, star, oak tree, birds... In that song, mother in mourning of son‘s death, asks the sun:
Our family members - reincarnates into the sun, moon, star, oak tree, birds... In that song, mother in mourning of son's death, asks the son: ,,Oh, my son, a rider, why did you become an oak tree? Why did you become an oak tree, and your horse -northern wind? and son responses: ,,We will ride with norther wind! We will ride! Where supossed, there will be ride! There will be ride! High mountains by climbing, will climb! Will climb by climbing! By the Nemunas (rivers) by the swimming, will swim By the swimming, will swim through! that song is just wonderful example, which shows, how is the most adequate to look at the death - without fear and with respect, cause it's just another one step... That's the believing :)
ua-cam.com/video/2VQ4YjaUb1U/v-deo.html - ,,Sun's tear". It's mythological song about the wedding between the sky and the earth. Sun let her daughter to the wedding, came God of Gods Perkūnas, broke the golden oak tree, broke the branches, and sun cried through the picking that branches... it was so metaphorical song, cause it shows traditional lithuanians attitude on wedding: girl should cry throiugh the wedding, cause if she will not cry there, she will cry all rest of her life. Crying - it's like ritual, like saying bye to past, and transforming to higher level, where she will live with other family.
ua-cam.com/video/Rl4zVLPxeSk/v-deo.html - it's Winter period men's song, how they will go to make a ,,Kolėda", going to the village and greeting the people, especially young girls... cause Winter have been the time of marriage, partner searching and love. from album ,,Aisim bernai, kalėdauc" www.pakartot.lt/album/aisim-bernai-kaledauc/aisim-bernai-kaledauc
another one legendary folk rock band: ,,Žalvarinis". it's symbol of my generation, and before my generation, as band, which called youngsters to pay attention of our ethnic culture and music. A lot of grew up with them. :) I'm one of those :) ua-cam.com/video/5apWEDs4ZOY/v-deo.html - ,,Beer, beer". It's like lithuanian folk rock movement hymn. :) ,,Beer, beer, the god will give more, while yeterday, through they day - have been rain by beer. Been rain of beer, snow of hops, flooded the rivers of royal wine. You are arguing, you are debating, while nobody sees -you're kissing. Go to argue, go to debate, while we went out - will be known." From album: ,,Žalio vario“,
ua-cam.com/video/0Ttkop9gtck/v-deo.html - ,,Stinta pūkis“. It‘s song made from ritual, western lithuanian fisherman‘s custom in winter, to launch a wooden board and make rhytmical knocking with singing - ,,Stinta - pūkis, stinta - pūkis|“. And repeating. It‘s have been they to make a better fishing. From album: ,,Teka“. You can find all albums by Žalvarinis in www.pakartot.lt/project/zalvarinis.
ua-cam.com/video/b0HBwD4jyP4/v-deo.html - ,,Zallis warris“. Song in prussian. Actually, it was old ritualic game, when people made a gates, through them went, and the last person, who will go through - it will be dead after some time. It‘s old game, but we still don‘t prefer to play it... :) From album ,,Žalio vario“.
ua-cam.com/video/18NVFuBt86E/v-deo.html - ,,Broliams“ - ,,For brothers“. It was song, based on really popular folk song, which shows attitude of lithuanians, to death.
,,Oh brother, warrior, oh brother warrior, where is your home, where is your home?
In the high sky, in the dark forest, there is my home...
Where is your mother? - in the high sky - bright sun, there it was my mother.
Where is your father - in the high sky - bright moon, there it was my father.
Where is your sister? - in the high sky - bright star , there it was my sister.“
I mean, lithuanians have really respectful, close look at the death and understood it as a step to another level of soul existing. :) also, we had our native zodiac system, which means, that we thought a lot of about sky bodies and cosmos...
ua-cam.com/video/F-SAj4q9EVQ/v-deo.html - ,,Kalyna malyna“, Ukrainian folk song. Cause band‘s leader Robertas Semeniukas was half lithuanian, half ukrainian - so, it‘s not strange, that Žalvarinis also played that song. :)
So, for this time, I shared the main of mains of folk rock, pagan metal scene. If you want more someting about neo folk, world music of lithuanians, or just mroe about our ,,authentic“ folklore, traditions, you can just say , I love to share :) just for now - wish a good listening :) and thanks for interest of our music :)
