  • This is what ice fishing looks like in Northern New-Brunswick. Went fishing for smelt, a small fish (5-10 inches), but very abundant. We caught a few decent ones. Sizes from 8-10 inches are very rare but we got a few.

    Great video! Happy to see the little guys having so much fun. Those are really nice size smelt!
    Reminds me of the way the smelt runs used to be in Lake Champlain back in the 60s and 70s.
    We’d ice fish for them using a short (12 inch) wooden hand pole, one for each hand.
    Each line hand 2 hooks, one below a heavy weight, one above.
    Each hook would be tipped with a little piece of smelt skin cut from just above the tail fin of a smelt.
    That thin piece of skin looked just like a minnow when jigged in the water.
    We’d fill up 5-gallon buckets at a time.

      Yeah when they start bitting, it doesn’t stop until you have your limit. It’s a great activity to do with the kids for sure. I’ll go again in January for sure.
      Thanks for watching 😊

    Surprenant, je n'avais jamais vu ça, ce type de pêche... Je n'ai pas tout compris et j'ai quelques questions : les "cabanes" sont sur un lac gelé ? Elles sont là de façon permanente ou mises en place uniquement l'hiver ? A moins que ça ne reste gelé toute l'année ? C'est tellement différent de chez moi, je me sens toute perdue, sans repères😨😳😯
    Merci du partage

    • @RemsFamily
      @RemsFamily  2 роки тому

      C’est sur l’eau salée de la mer. Dans la baie, l’eau bouge moins donc gèle facilement l’hiver. Cette pêche dure du milieu janvier jusqu’à la fin février. Parfois un leu plus long mais y a danger lorsque les températures montent. Les cabanes sont ensuite enlevées 😊

    I've smelt fish before, but never have had smelt fish. In fact, this may be the first time I've seen them caught. Do you eat them like sardines?

    • @RemsFamily
      @RemsFamily  2 роки тому +1

      We cook them by soaking them in flour. Then we simply fry them in a pan like my son did at the end. With a fork, we remove the meat and it tastes so good 😊
