I can't believe it. You just taught me how to play this song. A childhood dream come true. And I can sort of even play it, though, not even distortion can hide my multitude of sins... As I was watching your video I got to wondering what it was like for Neil Young to write it... Your lessons lead me to a much deeper appreciation of what it took to invent these cultural landmarks... And, as always, your incredible understanding of them and ability to translate them is the portal... gratitude to you.
I've learned so much from you over the years! If I saw you walking down the street, I would give you $1000 for all of your incredible help! I wouldn't recognize you by your face, but I would recognize you by your very distinctive shirts that you wear. Thank you!
Tasty tune Tastefully done And giftwrapped for all to learn . thanks again James James ,I think Neil would be proud ! It's been a ling time since I played this tune you just brought me right back .👍😁
Been trying to figure this song out for many years but never seemed to quite figure it out. Little did I know, its tuned to DOUBLE DROP D . Thanks for that little tidbit, it made all the difference in the world. Liked and subscribed just because of that !
Very nice lesson! I love the Gretsch Black Falcon Players Edition (probably because I own one too). It is a Tone King .. and you do it proud. Nice T-shirt as well! Thanks for the excellent lesson. (Double Drop D … I wasn’t going to figure that out on my own.)
I appreciate learning a few songs from you. Especially this one. Quite easy actually..after hearing you explain it. Sounds great on my LP but love your new Gretsch...
Just started playing 3 yrs ago took bluegrass lessons but wanted to play other songs.i found u about a month ago just want to say thank u for all the songs to play along with! Just subscribed will be watching and playing thank u.
Nice shirt!!! Is she your cinnamon girl? 😎 Seriously, great song, great performance, precious guitar. I can not choose just one record from Neil. I like his Acustico, his electric and many things that make me excited. Long life to Neil and that the rust does not attack him. greetings from Spain.
Neil's overdrive sound is insane! I think he uses something called a "whizzer". Your black flacon is sounding real close, great one JJ, thanks for taking the time to break this song down !
Been playing guitar since garage band club days, and I hate social media posting, but you are gifted with an amazing ear and command of the fretboard, and have solid rhythm playing, such a under appreciated skill in this era of shredders. May I ask you who where your influences? And thank you for bringing back great memories and motivating many of us out there to keep the fire.
The Truth Hey, man. Am new to guitar (+- 1 year) and my focus is rhythm guitar but have found it really difficult to find stuff that gets into the details of the art. I'm not necessarily talking about time, accenting and dynamics but the finer details of harmony and melody while strumming. In other words, tone choice while strumming instead of just indiscriminate strumming of all strings or the garden variety string grouping on the beat and the off-beat. This JJ guy recently posted something precisely along those lines but I was wondering if you could turn me on to anything similar as we share the same interest for rhythm guitar and you are more experienced than I am. If not, could you suggest a few rhythm guitarists a novice like me might benefit from studying? I understand you aren't into social media posting but any insight would be appreciated. I'd ask this JJ guy but, as he used to have another even more popular channel, he's probably flooded with all types of questions. I mean, I understand that fundamentally it is a question of developing your ear while listening and while playing so that you can be more discriminate in tone choice as technique improves but just wondered if there might be some useful guidelines...
Before garage..there were those guys. You know, the guys in your neighbirhood who guarded the Holy Grail guitar licks to the death. You, James, are not one of those guys. You gracefully share your skill and I dig it.
Hey James / i build a( GDES260 Coban Mahogany Semi Hollow body Guitar comes from the UK ) and now i am finished ....and it was the first time jaming to this video later i make mae be a video from it ( from my guitar ;-) )I AM SO HAPPY ....-hope you make more from Neil Young ...Thank you so much idownload something to lern mor to play ! keep up the good work . / From Germany
I love that! "your distortion hides a multitude of sins"😂 Saw your Orange and went and got me an Anniversary 20. Absolutely love it. You know.. to hide my multitude of sins!
Thank you for this and many other lessons you have done. I admire your talent, the way you share your knowledge with others, and of course your awesome guitar and t-shirt collection :-) I hope your generosity on youtube is rewarded with many blessings in your life. Rock On!
Jeff Sadon No lie, The 1st celebrity I ever met was Mr. Bentley from the Jeffersons. He sat at our table at a Comedy Club in NY bc there were no seats left. He was by himself. It was Hilarious !
Well, I was close! 😏I tend to make life more difficult for myself by staying in standard tuning. Need to drop those Es to Ds! But I've always heard him slide up the neck on that riff that links the verses together (where you play the open middle strings). I think Peter Buck was heavily influenced by Young. He uses the same tuning for "Gardening At Night" and "Ignore Land".
I've been around a while and I have NEVER seen anyone who can get every song you cover absolutely, perfectly correct. Amazing really.
BEYOND BLOODY BRILLIANT JJ ... damn amazing !!!
absolutely incredible !!!

If I went deaf I'd still keep watching your videos for the shirts.
and guitar collection!
Is that Farah Fawcett Majors?
Wow, what teeth.
But the FF shirt, thanks to “That70’s Show” I am waiting for her to say “ Baby!Baby!Baby!Baby!”
Teeth weren't the best part...
I had this and Rachael cave woman poster on my wall when was a teen
That ending riff is the icing on the cake
with a million cherries ............

Outstanding, as usual. You do the best job, nailing the same tone, as the original artist. That is truly a gift, along with your playing!!
Dang man thank you for sharing you are really awesome man!!!!...

If I cared about the number of subs, maybe it would be double. :)

Nice sounding guitar.. I bought the cheap model and pretty surprised of how good it sounds. I’ll try this song on it.
Awesome!!
Thanks for this lesson. Helps a lot. Same tuning as Lady Jane by the Stones. Enjoy your beautiful Black Falcon!
excellent tutorial
Man , that Guitar is Sweet Bro . Nice lesson as well .
Nice. Play it that way every gig. Follow it up with "Shine".
Great lesson and nice Keith Richards move at 4:44
I have to consciously try NOT to do that move, because it comes so naturally to me after obsessing over Keith for 40+ years.
I play guitar and wish ANY Keith move came naturally to me...
Nice t-shirt, bro!!
New toy? Great-looking guitar.
Brilliant!
Great lesson! Thanks! :-)
Thank you much and your profile picture rocks. 11/11.
Nice
"The distortion hides a multitude of sins." I know you're long gone from here, but thank you for that.
Nice job.
I met Farrah when I was 16 in 1979
Jeff Sadon I met Jacilyn Smith in 1983. Now we just have to find someone who met Kate Jackson.
I ran into Rondstat and Brooke Shields in LA my 1st trip, does that count?
All i can add is that i looked at that poster enough as a kid to know exactly what’s behind that guitar.
Jeff Sadon
No lie, The 1st celebrity I ever met was Mr. Bentley from the Jeffersons. He sat at our table at a Comedy Club in NY bc there were no seats left. He was by himself. It was Hilarious !
I meet Randy Jackson
Great lesson for double drop. D tuning !
Nice!
That Gretsch looks awesome!! :D
Dude, you always seem to amaze me! I'm a better guitar player because of your lessons. Kudos!
Been playing this song for 47 years but watched this video 8 times for the Farrah shirt. The Gretsch is sweet, though--it comes in second.
It's a distant second.
Awesome bud. ........ please do stones. Wild horses please
Dude. You can't really believe i haven't done Wild Horses. :)
@@jamesjames9275 I guess I haven't found it ?????
Great guitar..Greater shirt..so 70s.
You are nailing those tones!! How are you getting them
Buy any one of the modelling add-ons. My Zoom G1Next pedal was the cheapest- about $80 US. Just an example. Good hunting!
They call it A"BARGAIN"......the BEST I ever had!!!.....
That black Falcon of yours is beautiful JJ
Farrah Fawcet! Had that poster on my wall growing up.
Great lesson as always! Haven't seen you on UA-cam in quite a while. Hope everything's ok.
I wonder if N Y ever used his White Falcon on this tune? Sounds great on your Gretsch! (I had the Farrah poster)
