This was Terry Brennan's debut as ND head coach. ND would finish 9-1 that year with Leahy's players. My father remembered that the Texas coach refused to shake hands with Brennan at the end of the game.
Notice the helmets of each team. At about 20:56, an Irish punt returner loses his helmet when he is tackled. A LEATHER HELMET. By the 1950's, Texas, along with almost all other major college teams had already been using the hard plastic headgear for years, yet Notre Dame, the premier college football program in the country at that time, remained using the old MacGregor leather helmets. ND didn't go to the hard plastic helmets until 1958.
Later during the season, the zebras stole what could've been the winning TD from Navy. Final score: ND 6- Navy 0. George Welsh, the Navy QB scored on their straight downs from the ND 1-yard line. The zebras didn't allow any of them. I know, because I was there. We went on to beat the SEC champions, Ole Miss 21-0 in the Sugar Bowl game. It wasn't as close as the score would have you believe. I was there, too.
Note the men in the crowd and just how many male fans are wearing coats and ties. I notice the same thing when I see old video of major league baseball. The fans really dressed up for sporting events in the old days.
My right ear really enjoyed this

Great footage. Lots of Opening Day penalties and turnovers on both sides. Loving those Irish helmets with the big '+' across the top!
The obvious bevy of Irish and Italian americans dominated
the Notre Dame roster back then.
This game sounds like it is narrated by Gene Kelly, longtime Philadelphia Phillies play by play man. My all-time favorite baseball announcer.
Robby Bonfire I thought it sounded like Jack Buck

You only have yourselves to blame, Texas.
That was a very bad Texas team.
