Generally when Brian and I hike together we put the bear vaults away from the tent in areas we know bears and rodents are active, such as the Rae Lakes areas in Sequoia Kings Canyon NP. When we are in places that are not known for bears and we haven’t seen rodent activity we typically put them just outside the tent.
