- In this video, I provide a walk-through of how to perform a test of a second-order factor analysis using the lavaan package in R Studio. I begin the video with a discussion of the difference between a first order factor model and a second order factor model. I proceed to demonstrate how to run the analyses using syntax in lavaan.
A copy of the syntax file used in the video can be downloaded here:

Professor Crowson... I basically owe my PhD analysis to you!!! I'm super grateful for EVERY video that you have done...
Hi Natasha, that's very kind of you to say. I'm glad my videos were helpful to you. Good luck with your dissertation!
After 10 hours of googling and going through diverse files, finally the video which clearly explains second order confirmatory factor analysis in R! Thanks a lot, God bless you Mike :D
Please teach how to do exploratory structural equation modeling with ESEM package in R.
Hi there, I have a quick question.
When comparing these two models, I still have the same DF for each model; why is that the case?
BIFA.CFA
The number of parameters estimated in both models is the same. Hence, the degrees of freedom is the same. DF = p(p+1)/2 - # parameters estimated, where p=# observed variables.
how did you determined the correlation among variables in the lower command?
Is the first order model and 2nd order model are the same term as lower factor model and higher factor model , respectively?..
are "std.all" values in CFA 'factor loadings'? Can we report them as factor loadings?
Yes, you can report them as standardized factor loadings.
