Terrific video! I picked up one of these units at a neighbors yard sale this past weekend. The neighbor bought it in the eighties and it looks like new. He assures me it functions perfectly. I'll be integrating it into my system tomorrow. How wonderful to get the lowdown on this extremely cool piece of equipment. Thank you for your insightful presentation. Ingemar.
excelent review! Just the way I like it ..Congratulations and thank you very much for time you used to give us such interesting information.. I myself own a SH-8058 Technics Graphics Eq , and still i am looking for this model you have reviewed to install it on another amplifier i have.. Once again thank you very much.. And good to see the unit is completely operational !
I found an auction for one of these units. I checked out this video to see what the operation is like. Thank you for uploading the video, it helped me make the decision to get the EQ. Hasnt arrived yet but I have high hopes! Cheers.
Thank you so MUCH for posting this! I found this to be very informative and helped in my decision to buy one that I found on ebay. Your presentation was excellent and went a long way in explaining how this unit functions. This was key, since it's a used item and didn't come with a manual. Great job and keep the youtube posts coming!
I love this thing! I got one after seeing this a year ago. The touchpad is really cool. Another thing is that you can use the tape monitor for an additional input instead which is nice. The only thing that annoys me is the physical power switch. I have to remember to go up to it and turn it off. Stupid no remote 80's technology. ;)
The best thing about these Computerized EQs is that you can save presets . Other EQs you can't.. pick up an EQ because prices on these are going up. Will change your system 💯
I have a Technics equalizer but not that one. Mine isnt the touch sensitive but it still does most of the stuff yours does. My left and right displays are seperate.
Picked one up today at the neighbors yard sale. Looks pristine though I've yet to hook it up. Looking forward to trying it out. At five bucks what the heck?
My Technics equalizer is somewhat like this though mine doesn't have touch controls. Mine does have separate displays for right and left and it has presets if you want different equalization for different using. Mine used buttons on the top and bottom of the displays to adjust them. Technics with your equalizer and mine seems to have made some cool equalizers. My displays are also vacuum-florescent.
Just say NOOO! Oh who am I kidding, im being a hypocrite right now, I would love to have that thing! Ive never seen a older Technics piece of equipment ever, I once saw a newer CD player but it was far cheaper then these nice ones you have. I absolutely love the touch buttons for adjusting the equalizer! This thing must have been a pretty penny when new. I wish I knew all the stuff you do about this, im good, but not that good. Where do you learn all this? haha
that's a really cool way of adjusting the equalizer, stuff like that always amazed me when i saw it. it seems like they dont make things like that anymore, i wish the engineers were a little more open minded. it seems like they just make what people want instead of being creative and making something cool.
@uxwbill yes I can buy it from about 50 $ in silver, shame that any newer models of Equalizers were never made in silver, but hope it will suit my old Technics design.
Great video. I would appreciate some help if you know the answer. I just bought one of these from a thrift store, but the spectrum analyzer doesn't do anything. I can switch to the SA view but the indicators don't move. I know it's hooked up right because I can hear the difference when the EQ is on or off. Am I doing something wrong, or is the SA just broken?
Hi Bill. I decided to look inside mine after having it for a year. Everything works/sounds fine BUT I came across 2 problems. There is a pair of diodes and blue capacitors at the back of the board almost under the aux power receptacle. The board under these 4 components is VERY dark brown. They don't look burnt/ bloated though. Is your unit like this (can't tell from shadow in video) and what is that component group's job? The other problem is that one of the 2 big black capacitors near the main micro-controller has some tan fuzz at the bottom. Thanks
Thanks ***** for the input. I was thinking they were something with AC-DC because of the diodes and since they are in the power supply area of the board. I see a little smoke residue on the side of the caps too so I know it's really gotten hot at some point. I have 2 units and both boards are discolored under that same spot. That light tan stuff by that other large capacitor I mentioned looks like very very fine crystals. I'm probably just going to scrape that stuff off and just leave it.
Hello, I have one of these and it has a small issue. Within the display area to the right where the memory and channel info is, the brightness seems too high and it looks like the indicators are all illuminated at the same time. Any ideas?
Technics is an audio/music brand of Panasonic Corporation (legally Matsushita Industrial Electric Co. until 2008). Technics discontinued its original runs of hi-fi products and analogue turntables around 2002 and in 2010 (respectively), but relaunched hi-fi products in 2014 and analogue turntables in 2016 following renewed interest in hi-fi products and getting their desired number of signatures on a petition to resume SL-1200 series turntable production.
In the late 1990's a friend of mine had a Technics touch control EQ that had separate touch controls and read outs for left & right. His biz was recording 78 rpm to CD -he had 40,000 78's. He's dead & I've looked & looked for something similar. Are you aware of other brands that have this feature?
Hello, thank you very much for video! i have one SH-8046 and Microprocessor was fall. I had found one newest and all working but not spectrum analizer! any ideas? i verified power supply and every voltages around microprocessor. unique difference is that HD614042SD15 original had under i think version (7G1) and the newest has 9H1. I verified also voltages on pin 33 - 34 - 35 (in data) that on service manual it must be 0.4 V but i have them at 3.9 V. have u some ideas? thank you!!!
It sounds as though you have far more information on this equalizer than I do. (I don't have the service manual or any schematics.) I don't think I can be of much help in telling you what to look for, or where exactly the problem is, unfortunately.
@@uxwbill Thank you for ur answer! i ask u only if u have time to verify ur microprocessor version. it's wrote under row HD614042SD15. mine original was 7G1. and urs? it's only for try to find some other information about that! thank you a lot!!!
Hi have enjoyed your video have an old technics system that works fine and have just got an equalizer the same model as in your video which I would like to include to my system but dont know how to hook up the cables at the back of the system . I have the amp cassette deck cd player tuner and turntable could you give me some help with thanks Tony
Left hand end of the scale, from 20 Hz or so up to about 125 Hz. The exact bands of adjustment you have will vary. Check any "bypass" or similar switches to make sure they aren't on. Make sure your connections are correct. Other than that, your equalizer probably needs service.
Typically you would use the tape monitor loop. If you don't have one, or only want to apply EQ to one thing, you can connect the equalizer in line with that one item (except most turntables, whose signal is too weak).
Have the SH 8055 (the model before this but looks same display), only problem is the spectrum display always shows max reading even when all sliders and switches set at lowest possible, disconnected everything still same, would love to get it going again to use with my vintage technics HIFI, any ideas? Thanks
Shit, my mom just gave this and a complete set of other matching equipment to a stupid guy at work. The guy managed to blow the speakers, and i'm really mad for her doing that..
thats the sickest eq I've ever seen
way ahead of its time it looks like

I finally found one of these locally in mint condition. It is a really cool EQ. Nice job explaining things on the video.

Happy with it?
Just found one in the dumpster and as I was looking for info I found your video.

Look like those are capacitive touch sensors, very unusual but also very nice for a vintage stereo piece.
I ended up getting one of these- It is really cool!
I forgot. Thank you so much for your informative video, you're the best. A wonderful resource. Best wishes. Ingemar.
Great piece of kit!

that is a great unit, love that touch panel
wow this kind of thing would became the new "classic" hardware in less than 10 years
awesome video that is really neat that its tutch
Legend
Cool for mid 80s!
I wish I had that one instead of my 90's teac equalizer, I've always felt like it was very cheaply made.
Just say NOOO! Oh who am I kidding, im being a hypocrite right now, I would love to have that thing!

Hey uxwbill. That sure looks like magic seeing those adjustments on the displayed being moved. :) What do you think? :)

Unfortunately graphic eq's=distortion, however its nice to leave them flat and just look at the lights and have visual feedback

what is your configuration for the 7 levels eq? is necessary to right and left is the same configuration?
i have the sh-ge70 very nice unit
Hello, I have one of these and it has a small issue. Within the display area to the right where the memory and channel info is, the brightness seems too high and it looks like the indicators are all illuminated at the same time. Any ideas?
I don't know what might cause that. It's possible that there is a failure (maybe a short?) within the display driver circuit, or the display itself.
does technics still exist?
ive never heard of them until now lol

Is this some soirt of "resistive touchpad"? such as touchscreens of today?

thanks -I've been looking on the internet & yours was the only one Technics or otherwise.
will do thx :->
At those conditions, I would not, but I feel that was a pretty dumb choice giving the set away.
how much is it? and u can tell me how can i set up it? what frecuency i need to up for the 7 EQ levels?
I have the same model, all functions work fine except the spectrum analyzer. Any thoughts?
No, I don't have any information or thoughts about that. I would recommend trying to get a service manual or schematic.
+uxwbill okay, thank you for the response.

I will have to see if I can find it. I may have donated this one to a thrift store.
That is the budget one i have SH-8066.
And Sh8044 is the budget of this one
were can i buy one of these?
I have an EQ like this in great working condition. I'm trying to sell it. How much you think it worth? Thanks

mine plays to much bass and I try to find the setting to change the amount of bass it puts out and I just can't find it any suggestions
