This is adorable my grandad owns a lot of degus and chinchillas he has over 10 degus ( one in a separate cage ) and 11 chinchillas ( they are not all in the same cage the girls and boys are separated ) and 2 rats so he has alot -
I think Degus &chinchillas are amazing pets.people think they are but they are not if u don't spend time with them their diet is simple. Not all degus & chinnies get on or vice versa. Very intelligent animals. The pet trade needs more vigilance,
Hi there, your degu and chinchilla are very sweet. However, please do not house them together. They have completely different diets and temperaments, not to mention they're different species so don't communicate in the same way, and have different sleeping habits. If a chinchilla were to kick a degu, it could be easily catastrophic. Given that out of all mammal species, chinchillas rank in the top 5 species for killing their own kind (excluding infanticide) they are not necessarily as cute and cuddly all the time as they may appear. Sorry to be a mood kill but wouldn't want others to watch this and think it's safe.
I completely agree and was looking for a comment like this. I have degus myself and so I was shocked to see this video. Like you said they are sweet but they definitely don't belong in the same cage
It is easy to see why the Chinchilla and the Degu species are related to each other! Except for the color and the size difference, they look amazingly alike. I think the chinchilla thinks the Degu is a Chinchilla youngster. It’s heartwarming seeing them grooming each other.
They shouldn't be kept in the same cage. They have completely different eating and sleeping habits. If they really like each other you can put the cages next to each other but never keep them in the same enclosure. Edit: Just realised that the video is kinda old but i hope i helped somebody else atleast
Has an owner of chinchilla chinchilla and degus should not be pair together in the same cage degus have different requirements should not in a cage it needs to be in terrarium because they love to borrow under things
That's to be expected. Such close interaction between two different rodent species is highly unnatural; they don't speak each other's "language" and typically see one another as intruders to be taken out.
Every character is different 🤔 I was once looking how my hamster reacts do Degus, the degu went over, tried his smell, and suddenly he was again not visible for them 😅
I had degus and chinchillas. I kept them separate. This video is adorable.
I miss my degus very much.
Cute as long as they don’t have the same cage. I’m getting two degus relatively soon so I’m watching videos of them interacting with things

Do you keep them in the same cage? And if you do, do you still do it? I find it interesting that they seem to get along :)
They probably think they're from the same family xD
Unusual pairing but nice to see their bonding.
I'm you but stronger
I had a female chin and bought two baby degus and she tried to murder them. I could not let her near them because she hated them.
