My uncle is a jazz pianist and he would play this for us whenever he visited. This just brought a world of joy rushing back to me from an old memory I haven't seen in a long long time. Thank you
Well done! The arrangement suits this beautiful song - just the right amount of embellishment, and you wisely refrain from unnecessary, cliche chord substitutions, keeping the melody in focus. You have the courage and ability to keep things simple when appropriate - that is the sign of a true master !
@@Reichthoff Maybe that wasn't a good way to put it, since strictly speaking, no chord substitution is "necessary". What I mean is that jazz pianist (especially the unskilled ones - like me!) sometimes put in too many e.g. tritone substitutions, just because it is possible to do and sounds fancy, but actually distracts from the melody and harmonic flow of the tune. As the German author Goethe put it: "It is in self-limitation that a master first shows himself" (German: "In der Beschränkung zeigt sich erst der Meister.").
@@RolfLunheim yeah bro i do that all the time just because it makes people who dont play at all think im really good lol. I definitely need to work on that tho.
I love your version so much! Those jazzy harmonies are really so flavorful and it really added more color and texture to your rendition. I admire you for your amazing creativity. It's amazing how you have so much brilliant ideas to reharmonize this. Brilliant improvisation!
When you wish upon a star Makes no difference who you are Anything your heart desires Will come to you If your heart is in your dream No request is too extreme When you wish upon a star As dreamers do Fate is kind She brings to those who love The sweet fulfillment of Their secret longing Like a bolt out of the blue Fate steps in and sees you through When you wish upon a star Your dreams come true
That's BEAUTIFUL!!!!! It had my mind going "whoa this can't get any more complicated while still sounding pleasant" but it did! Thanks very much for uploading, I subscribed!
I Really enjoyed this , I’m going to start a series on my channel playing Disney songs with so much jazz that they’re hardly recognisable , although obviously I’m no way near your standard of playing .
Dear JiminDorothy - Once again thanks a million for sharing this beautiful arrangment of a 1940-classic with us. May I ask a question regarding the chord notation? In the 4th bar, there is a gorgeous, slightly dissonant chord, which to my old eyes and ears comes across as a 13-chord - a Gm13 #11 (no5) to be more precise. Wonderful choice! But why did you choose to notate it as G7 (#11)? There are a few other examples of 13-chords in the score, which has been notated differently, e.g. the Bb7(#11) in bar 6 and the G7(b9) in bar 37. You are the expert, and I'm sure you have a good reason for notating in this way. I'm curious to know !
My guess would be that it's just simplified. A lot of jazz musicians simplify their chord notation because writing out all of the alterations and extensions accurately for each chord just gets exhausting after a while, and we tend to be flexible about the exact quality of the chord anyway. In this case you're right that the chord is actually a G13(b9#11), but I guess Dorothy thinks the most important thing to convey is the #11. The 13 is in the melody after all, so that note will naturally be played, and it's often just a natural habit for us to add the b9 on dominant chords even if unmarked.
@@KennyRegan Good comment. I think you are right. It is certainly exhausting (and often not very helpful) to write out all extensions in detail. And yes, very good point about the 13th being in the melody, and therefore ok to be omitted. There are always lots of ambiguity in chord analysis and notation, and Jimin Dorothy knows what she is doing! And you are right - it is a G13 (b9#11). I played it as a Gm13 #11 - which sounds a bit cool, by the way.

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
재즈 들으면 왠지 마음이
차분해지는거 같아요👍👍👍

If you want to sell internationally, the web page needs to be in selectable languages. Just a thought .
