    Love them. They are so beautiful!

    That looks really nice. As I have seen from various comments, the eggs are rather for decoration than for eating. To make them last and not waste food, the following idea comes to my mind: Make two little holes, one on the top, one at the bottom, blow them out (for a nice omelett or scrambles eggs) then wrap them the same way and put them into the pot as shown here. To keep the hollow eggs under wáter, you cover them with a heavy plate. Should work fine, give it a try and let us know :) The holes will also allow you to put them on a string.

      Would you still need to boil for 25 minutes if the eggs are hollow?

      The eggs are totally edible.

      Elke Lange weight wrapped egg with a metal butterfly bolt attached to string to hold them under water- that's what I use- any bolt heavy enough will do!! I have a pot used just for this so I don't worry about bolts scratching bottom 😂 or the noise!!

      If you want to keep them, you can varnish them. (I would only use hollowed eggs so as not to waste food).

    This is incredible! I'm gonna try it for Orthodox Easter in 3 weeks.

    You used dark vinegar-where I've been using white- and yours have come out with a better and much more bolder coverage to Eggs- so I think I'm going to try your method with dark vinegar!! Trying butterfly bolts tied to string to hold Eggs down- blow them first to empty and acrylic varnish after!! Then you can keep them!!

    And where do we get those beautiful silk squares? Cut up our scarves? Is the silk reusable?

    • @laurag4500
      @laurag4500 7 років тому +3

      Material stores, but just thought how about a thrift shop silk shirt that has a pattern. I have some old scarves and the patterns are beautiful.
      Mary Oiler said that vinegar is used and that prevents in my opinion from the color to stay stable. In other words, the silk is reusable.
      I am so disappointed because I have only brown eggs otherwise I would have made some now

      Thank you for the suggestions. I do not have a single fabric store in my area so that's out. There is goodwill...And among my mom and grandmom's old stuff (both long gone) there might be some silk scarves I don't ever use...Kind of wish I'd saved my son's silk shirts that were popular 20+ years ago!

    Really beautiful!! Since egg shells are permeable, I wonder if eating the eggs is really safe?! The dyes are certainly not non-toxic. Thanks for sharing the technique. I believe my hubby is about to lose some ties for Easter :)

      Candee Van Iderstine boiling for 25 mins I wouldn't want to eat them anyway ;)
      personally I would blow the eggs first and then dye them, a couple coats of clear varnish and then they could be strung up on ribbons as baubles or other hanging decor

    Also wondering if this could work with printed cotton fabric and wooden eggs?

  • @imarried1010

    In regards to various comments on how to weight down blown eggs:
    Try using a metal steamer (one that adjusts to the size of your pot) upside down, over the eggs. Then keep the water lever just above the upside down steamer.
    My question regarding reuse of fabric is:
    Care instructions for 100% silk is cold water, hand wash, hang dry. After low boiling for 25min, wouldn't the fabric become rough and the ink pattern dull?

  • @cathyblalack5687

    • @niccolealdrich4890

      It must be 100% silk fabric. To test your fabric you need to do a 'burn test'. To do this, take a piece and light the edge with a lighter. If it turns to ash it is 100% silk. If it keeps burning, it is fake silk.

    Doesn't cooking the eggs for 25 minutes over cook them? Ive never had an over cooked boiled egg before. I always thought the shells would crack if cooked too long.

    Is the dye safe for consumption? I assume it bleeds into the porous egg shells.

    • @VFormiZAlenkoKosir
      @VFormiZAlenkoKosir  7 років тому +4

      Yes you have to put water to the pot and two tabel spoons of vinegar. The water must cover the eggs.

    • @VFormiZAlenkoKosir
      @VFormiZAlenkoKosir  7 років тому +2

      We can not give you amount of water. It depandes of the number of eggs you are cooking...more eggs you have more water you need.

      Potrebujete bela jajca, bombažne in svilene krpice v velikosti 18x18cm. Zavijete jajca v svilo, zavežete in potem še v bele bombažne krpice. Položite jih v posodo, zalijete z vodo, toliko da so jajca pokrita in dodate dve žlici kisa. Kuhate na zmernem ognju 25 minut. Počakate da se malo ohladijo, odvijete in nastanejo res lepi pirhi:-)

      hard boiled eggs only take 12 minutes, and that's if you bring the water to just a boil and then turn the burner OFF for the 10 minutes.

      For eating, it doesn't spoil the egg, although I suppose it doesnt work with that silk chiffons...In Poland we boil the egs with those parts what you leave during peeling, it makes reddish color of eggs, which couls be srcathed after with different motives.

      I let the water come to a boil, then remove the covered pan from the heat, let sit covered for 12 minutes and add to an ice bath. Eggs only take 12 minutes to hard boil.

    Omg, fabric dyes aren't safe for consumption! I'm seeing comments of people eating these, please don't! Egg shells are permeable, that means the dye chemicals are entering the edible egg under the shell. Please just use these for decoration, and blow the egg out before doing.
