What they DON’T tell you about SUPPLY TEACHING in SCOTLAND

So I've been supply teaching in Scotland since December after teaching full-time. Here is everything that you need to know on how to get into it, what you need to do, what is expected of you in the role, anddd of course, the pros and cons. Spoiler, there are quite a lot of cons lol. I say this as a pregnant supply teacher who basically has no income now, it can be rough out there. Love your video - v honest. Is it daft to give up a full time permanent post to go on supply ? The school I have been in for 3 years is very toxic and I find myself working 14 hour days incl a day at the weekend just to keep on top of the HTs demands.Any advice appreciated!

Im so sorry to hear this… I would maybe look to find a part time work or look to transition into learning support or something. Don’t quit for supply if you need a full or consistent wage though, it can be very patchy. Speak to your HT too as a warning that you’re finding t hard

Thanks so much for this video! Just finished probation in GCC, got 11/12 in my interview but there’s no jobs so I’m on supply now. So anxious🥲 This helped a lot though!

it is SUCH a tough time, especially to be in Glasgow, Edi, or the central belt. Supply can be great and ultimately seeing different schools and schemes will get you experience the get a perm post. Also lets you see which schools you like and what to look for for yourself with interviews, not all schools suit you and your needs too! Best of luck :)

Just got Perm contract for supply in GCC, in my 3rd year of teaching. Done tonnes of interviews across Scotland, at least this one is permanent and I get a full year of maths teaching at each school, before the placement basically resets in August
