  • Here is a very small, dual band radio by Sainsonic, available at www.radioddity.com, 25 watts on VHF, 20 watts on UHF. Audio reports are superb, and unit is small enough to fit ANYWHERE....

    At 4:33 you mention the fact the transceiver display has a battery level indicator, which you normally don't see in a mobile radio but I think they may have included it in this particular model because it would a good choice to be used as an emergency dual band transceiver, such as a "go-box" radio. As such, it would likely be powered using an external battery, and IF this is the case, having a battery level indicator in the radio display would be a useful feature to have.

    This Looks just like the Juentai JT-6188 radio I bought last year. The Prog is the same and the operation. Thank You for the demo.

    Question: Can someone tell me if this radio transmits on VFO mode out of the box? My UV5R and UV82 both will TX on VFO. This is kind of scary especially if you are tuned to a frequency you're not authorized to Transmit on.

    Seen reviews of the Sainsonic GT 890 while it works great as a base it is said to have issues while in motion in a mobile.
    Anyone have an in motion review of this unit??

    Good Job you have done with this review. Very useful. QYT KT8900 is quite similar and has 240 to 260MHZ, and when programmed with cable and software we got response to 220mhz to 225mhz. Does it do the same? PY2FI

    What software would be used for this radio..? The Btech..? 2501 software..? Thanks...

  • @G2Pro
    @G2Pro 8 років тому

    Looks very similar to the Btech UV-2501, the biggest difference is the Btech has a cooling fan and costs $15.00 more. I spent $25.00 more and got the UV-2501+220 tri-bander to get 2M, 1.25M and 70cm. It didn't come with the software or programming cable though. You can download the free software, but it wanted a lower screen resolution than what my laptop will do and wouldn't display properly. I used Chirp, which will automatically calculate the offset frequency for you.

    Hey Eric, on ebay it says it goes up to 480Mhz, I'm just wondering if it transmits all that high? I'm looking for a transceiver that does dual ham bands and UHF CB (in Australia it's around 477Mhz) This way I could limit my antennae and radio clutter hehe Cheers

      @buuntaa1986 7 років тому

      Yes this will do the job but just beware that ACMA laws only allow UHF CB to transmit at 5W.

    GMRS use requires an FCC license, and licensees are permitted to transmit at up to 50 watts on GMRS frequencies. Only the shared GMRS/FRS frequencies are limited to 0.5 watts. The fee is now $65 for a 5 year license and there is no test. Most people don't even know that GMRS requires a license.

    I've tested this radio at home. Soudwise it's pretty decent. In a car, powered from a cig lighter is worse, well also depends on a car and the electronics inside of it. Programming is terrible. For direct it's pretty OK.

    Hello, I have the QYT KT-8900 which is the same rig I guess. Anyway I've owned this rig for some yrs now and was going thru my manuals and ran across the QYT manual so I was going to see if there was anything in there I could use that I was not. Ok on page 4 of the manual at the bottom half of the page I read that if you hold down the F button and turn the rig on it will pop up the word password and blanks under that. Now it says that if you enter the password you can enter a Band 2m 440 or 220. So does that mean you can turn it into a TRI band or just change a band that was in the rig already? Either one would be cool as we don't have much on 440 here but do have repeaters on 220. So does your manual say the same on page 4 ? Bill (kc4ubc) at yahoo.com

      Depends on what your local PD/FD is using for comms. If they are 800 or P25 then you are out of luck. If they are VHF/UHF then yes you can listen in. I've done this with my cheap-chinese-radio. Be warned...they will also let you transmit on that frequency as well. You really don't want to do that.

    How is the Chinese software? that cme witht he radio, Is it Buggy or does it perform well?
    Can this radio use the CHIRP software? Radio sounds good.
    I purchased the Baojie BJ-218 and the software is an incomplete nightmare written by a Juvenal wannabe programmer who had never written a program before. The software showed me that Baojie the Chinese manufacturer was not really serious about selling his product in the United States or anywhere else for that matter. No wonder the Chinese had to use suicide nets around the Apple I-PAD factory in China. Slave labor has it's draw backs but you can't beat the price, a weakness for us capitalist!

    I disagree on the audio reports. The transmit audio on the GT0890 is terrible. High-end audio response is very restricted and the fidelity is terrible. Anything less than a full-quieting signal requires (not may require) multiple requests to repeat transmission in order to achieve comms. Anyone remembering the very early Alinco radios (with phase modulation)? These sound much worse than that.
    Additional note: Programming is very clunky, tedious and time consuming. You have to triple-click into a field to both select the field and its contents for replacement. Tabbing to the next field doesn't work. I've programmed one of these for a local LEO and told him I would only program his radio since I now have a file constructed but would not program one of these again for anyone. More than 40 years at this. I'm not a newbie. These are pure junk.
