I loved Bimal Roy's movies Do Bigha Zameen, Bandini, Sujata, Madhumati etc Found out that for Do Bigha Zameen(1953) he was inspired by Vittorio de Sica's Bicycle Thieves (1948). That was my knowledge of Italian Neo-realism. This Rossellini's masterpiece predates that and indeed is a great film.

I think that it is fair to say that Italians were victims of their own government as well as WW2.

@@Ray_TheRebel Sure, the Duce was never ever supported by the majority of Italians. And Hitler was just some Austrian painter who had nothing to do with the Germans.

@@karlkarlos3545 aneducated people manipulated by fascists.people were already dying due to the lack of money and food.and yes when they saw two monsters making proimises about a better tomorrow they bought it.you can blame for that but they were just trying to survive

@@Ray_TheRebel People were dying all over Europe thanks to the fascists. So, please stop calling people idiots and say "Italian people had nothing to do with their government." We don't blame modern people, we just are against the whitewashing of history.
