Seeing ChatGPT in so many scenarios, not just music, is truly an interesting sight to see. I personally think it has quite some merit, but it should never take over the human experience, especially in music. That's just how I see it, of course.
People forget with Ai that it may seem basic at the moment but the point is the more we input the more it learns. Though I guess the issue with that is, if we input and approve lots of wrong things the Ai would become messed up. How does the Ai learn right from wrong? Would be interested to know if anyone knows.
I learned about that tool recently too! What you created blows it out of the water, but it's good to know that Chatgpt is a blues-lick-level guitar player haha
Prompt engineering is not as simple as folks may assume at first. The more details you can add, the better the responses become. If you did start with something like "write me a blues guitar solo that ramps up quickly to a climax that slowly drops off," ChatGPT will have more to work with. I haven't tried this, but I've done similar progressions of prompts as a developer. The more specific I got with what I was looking for, the more refined the results became. I even learned some nuances I wouldn't have thought about before. Cool final solo though 👍
I love how it's a mix of pretty bad ideas, really basic ideas, some interesting ideas, and generic ideas. Basically exactly what you'd expect from something that's doing it's best to write something convincing using existing text but no concept of what any of it is. Still a lot of fun, and you sure did the bot about as much justice as possible.
"Guess I'll come up with a locrian vamp?" hahaha. this is something I've been thinking about for awhile. The number of possible guitar solos (based off 6 strings & 2 octaves, not accounting for double stops/chords or extended range) is many many MANY times the number of stars in the observable universe. And we all know how insanely massive the universe (what we can see of it so far) is. As guitarists, we LITERALLY have several universes of options out there. I can't imagine any computer (or person) could possible master that. A good solo is something that has much more personality than most entire songs, and chatGPT when asked how to not be replaced by it as an artist, straight up tells you that it can not replicate your human story, it can write a story but what makes stories good and timeless is the fact they resonate with us, and that is a human experience that changes over the years with society. And even if it could make a good story, no one can write YOUR story but you. And that's what makes a good artist, not skill. I'm still surprised chatGPT didn't do better though, I've heard better from "procedurally generated djent" videos lol
Hey Tyler, a good way to think about ChatGPT is as of an intern, who can do anything really great as long as you can explain how. Try again same video idea but this time feed it with some tabs and theory about writing a guitar solo. I bet its gonna be awesome
Ok but... At the end of the day. This solo rocked due to HUMAN skill, HUMAN feel. It may seem as though that chatgpt gave him the idea for what he played... But every artist and solo he has ever heard prior to doing this. Plays just as much a roll in the result as the chat.
Tyler we love you. But I gotta say, you have so many guitars! I haven’t seen the jazz master since you bought it! I think a giveaway is in order! C’mon man make it happen!
Chatgpt is pretty popular these days. Alot of youtubers are making videos using chatgpt. Theyre all pretty interesting. Love what you do Tyler and im so glad you still make content
Artificial Intelligence is the future but it lacks what humans have, feel and pure emotion. That solo wouldn't have come to life without Tyler's feel, emotion and musical initiative and knowledge taking over.
I asked it to write a Windows batch file that makes a report of the contents of a folder (with filenames, size, date modified, and total file count at the end), and it straight-up did it. It's insane how this thing actually solves problems in a way that suggests intelligence of some sort, even without the benefit of true consciousness or self-awareness.
I only hit the 👍 because of the kick ass guitar solo at the end. Tyler, you are a kick ass guitar player. However, in my opinion, chat GPT is not AI. It's a program that is very complex. It's so complex that it appears to be artificially intelligent. This is only my opinion, and I can not prove it.
i wish he'd have known that you can literally just ask chatgpt anything to make it give you a better solo. could've said "add more slow long bends with unique blues licks and a fast tapping section before finishing with a resolving phrase". it really does work amazingly like that
This is a really cool idea, if anything, A.I. can create a "flawless" application and help develop muscle memory. You should ask "it" to give you the holy grail of tones and how to achieve that.
This is all wonderful... But most of us are wondering where your various talents are being recorded onto album format so we can hear your genius in musical form.
When you reharmoinised the boring solo at the beginning into Locrian, it sounded bored but angry. It would be good for a song that was about such a feeling. It reminded me of the solo from At My Job by The Dead Kennedys.
That nirvana lick at 1:25 is wicked, I’ve almost got my amp/pedal setup to give me that sound it sounds like it’s within the 2-4th frets or something I’m trying to play it lol
For those interested in in chatgpt.. you have to prompt it by telling it what it is… for example “chatgpt you are an amazing guitar player. Please write a guitar solo in the style of……..” be as detailed as possible!!! Good luck
The first solo sounds like me in high school when I had just learned the pentatonic minor box scale, and I thought I was going to be the next Jimi Hendrix. :D
I had chatgpt write me songs too. I picked a scale. "A Locrian" I then played every pair of 2 notes and described the sound it made and ideas it provokes. Then, I gave that info to chatgpt and asked it to write note sequences followed by a description of why it thinks those notes would go well together. Example: Here are 28 associations that associate pairs of musical notes with descriptions of the note transitions sounds and the ideas they provoke. 1. (A, A) = Guttural, Metalic clang/clank 2. (A, Bb) = Jarring, Stalking, Stop/Go contrast 3. (A, C) = Springy and snappy like a soldiers march being interrupted by a sudden call to action 4. (A, D) = Harmonious, Cooperative, Resilient, Homely . . . 27. (F, G) = Exotic, indian, somber, melancholic, booming, roaring, Whimsical 28. (G, G) = Resolved, Luminous shrill Starting with any tuple that contains an a, and ending with any tuple that contains a g, you are tasked with constructing a note sequence based on the description of the sounds and ideas those notes produce. your sequence should be at least 8 notes long and be formatted as such: (a,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,g) "Description of why those notes might sound well together." you may also swap the order of any tuples you wish.
I was gonna post one of my favorite examples, but I could not seem to find where I saved it. The generations look similar to this. (a,f)(g,d)(c,eb)(g,a)(d,bb)(c,f)(f,a)(bb,d) "The eerie tone flows smoothly into somber exotic tone, which gives way for a luminous rise, creating a journey of triumph which resolves to a melodic an serene end."
That was so cool! The first bits of music it wrote were, IMO, terrible. As though they'd been written by a machine, which in fact they had. But you redeemed it completely and brilliantly with your outro solo. Following ChatGPT's description beautifully. What a great idea for a video. You're a great player too.
Tyler, I like the solo you extracted from the chatGpt description of a paint by numbers description but, you're a Villain! This soulless bot is not even close to taking your job as a teacher but, it's scary good at some stuff like cheating on a school term paper! You made the most of it and I had fun. It's a Brave New World no doubt.✌️🎸🎶♥️🙏
Did you happen to use artificial intelligence a few years ago to pen the lyrics to Have Heart (possibly my favourite song ever recorded) I only ask because it’s hard to fathom that a human being could be capable of writing something as pure without the help of A.I and after seeing this video it now makes me curious. For example….. Runnin' runnin' runnin' runnin' you're always runnin' Runnin' runnin' runnin' keep runnin' keep runnin' keep runnin' YEAH! You can't stop the blood from runnin'. As amazingly talented as you are surely this couldn’t be 100% your own work? There is no way you could be a guitar god with those hunky hollywood looks along with the heart of a sensitive poet. Did somebody say “triple threat”? It’s amazing to think where music will be in 10 years time if this is now only the beginning. This should be a catchy and memorable tune that sets the tone for the rest of the song. Use multiple guitars to create harmony parts that complement the melody. Experiment with different chord progressions and voicings to create a rich and complex sound. Introduce an organ solo to add texture and variation to the song. The organ should complement the guitars and add a new dimension to the music. Include multiple guitar solos with different tones to showcase the range of the instruments. Experiment with different effects and techniques to create a unique sound for each solo. Use chromaticism to add tension and interest to the song. This can be achieved through the use of non-diatonic notes and chords. Pay attention to the structure of the song, making sure to include appropriate sections such as verses, choruses, and bridges. Use dynamics and tempo changes to keep the song interesting and engaging. Remember to keep experimenting and refining your ideas until you have a finished product that captures the essence of the Allman Brothers' style.
I don’t know about a.I. writing a solo but I think that your guitar tone during that final solo was pretty damn nice! Now why won’t those pickups fit on a Les Paul?!
In theory, you could get it to create a piece of music in text to represent midi data. Then, because ChatGPT can write code, you could possibly get it to create code which would convert a text representation of midi data to actual midi data and then dump it into your DAW and choose an instrument for it to control.
The final result is at 8:30. I hope you enjoy and hopefully the robots don't take over
gpt-4 is wayyyy better
final result sounded a little tiny bit like Dire Straits, which can't be a bad thing can it?
I enjoyed that. Thought your end solo was really good….nice job!!
I understand your just having fun , but this stuff is actually pretty scary to me. ☠️☠️🖖🏻
@@phillippitts6294 I wasn’t being sarcastic or joking around…I honestly liked Tyler’s solo
That last solo was really epic. Great job both Tyler and Chat GPT (and viewer for the submission of course).
so epic

Just need to say, that solo sent a chill down my spine. Awesomeness.
Greetings from Brazil! Follow your channel for years now! Legend
the “description” at the end of a great guitar solo basically says “play something great”
I loved that guitar solo at the end, such a perfect melody. Keep it up!
Bravo! Outstanding and technical review substantiated by your play! Solo at the end was pure from your soul!
Damn, Tyler, that solo at the end was killer! the instructions overhead make it seem so much more legendary
The description of the perfect guitar solo is incredibly good.
The perfect guitar solo starts with soul and ends with whether or not another soul resonates with it being perfect.
Amazed at how a machine produced such a beautiful description of a perfect guitar solo 😮🤩🧐

I thought it was going to be a tabbed solo. Still crazy though and cool hammering pattern, very Satriani
The first solo sounds like me in high school when I had just learned the pentatonic minor box scale, and I thought I was going to be the next Jimi Hendrix. :D
The second solo sounded like you were fighting a boss battle. I'd say ChatGPT intended that.
That was actually a really good one! Very climactic!
I had chatgpt write me songs too.
I picked a scale. "A Locrian"
I then played every pair of 2 notes and described the sound it made and ideas it provokes.
Then, I gave that info to chatgpt and asked it to write note sequences followed by a description of why it thinks those notes would go well together.
Example:
Here are 28 associations that associate pairs of musical notes with descriptions of the note transitions sounds and the ideas they provoke.
1. (A, A) = Guttural, Metalic clang/clank

4. (A, D) = Harmonious, Cooperative, Resilient, Homely
.
.
.
27. (F, G) = Exotic, indian, somber, melancholic, booming, roaring, Whimsical
28. (G, G) = Resolved, Luminous shrill
Starting with any tuple that contains an a, and ending with any tuple that contains a g, you are tasked with constructing a note sequence based on the description of the sounds and ideas those notes produce.
your sequence should be at least 8 notes long and be formatted as such:
(a,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,y)(x,g)
"Description of why those notes might sound well together."
you may also swap the order of any tuples you wish.
I was gonna post one of my favorite examples, but I could not seem to find where I saved it.
The generations look similar to this.
(a,f)(g,d)(c,eb)(g,a)(d,bb)(c,f)(f,a)(bb,d)
"The eerie tone flows smoothly into somber exotic tone, which gives way for a luminous rise, creating a journey of triumph which resolves to a melodic an serene end."
Also had it generate Nocturnes and bolleros and stuff but they get messy real quick.
The final solo and track at the end gave me major Ghost vibes 😁
