I turned 70 on July 30th so this is very important to me. Thank you. I have been taking care of myself and have no medical conditions. My yearly metabolic panel is due so I will ask for this test. I quit sugar, gluten, vegetable oils, and eat organically over ten years ago. I have never smoked and do not drink. I am hoping to live until 100 so I can be a great great grandmother.

I am 76 and thanks to a strict diet and your advice on Magnesium I got rid of 2 Arrhythmias and getting rid of sugars and starches etc I reversed an aortic regurgitation down to a trace that only machine could detect. Technician could not find.
And arrhythmia specialist said diet would not help just old age.
Wish I could find a doctor like you that realizes life style changes can make a huge difference. Oh I also walk/jog 2 miles a day and do deep muscle stretches and lift arm weights. All my blood tests normal NOW.

In the US you can't get these tests unless you have presented with symptoms recognized by the insurance companies to warrant the test. So...you can know you need this test...but...you can't get a doc to give a requisition. So...no test. But you have helped me greatly with your videos. I watch you faithfully. The sad thing here is that if you learn about your heart and ask intelligent questions our docs here are threatened and often shut you down. It is so frustrating...you have to act like you have learned a little bit by accident and need his expert opinion...but you can never let on that you have learned enough to actually question prescribed protocol. Dr.: 9/2021, I had to dismiss my GI doctors. The meds were extreme poison for me and the surgery they wanted to do meant changing the structure of my stomach. This experience plus wrong diagnoses and conflicting tests results over many years, I had to move away from traditional/western doctors to save my life. Sounds dramatic but that's how I felt. I remembered reading (perhaps a Dr. Weil book) 20 years earlier "the gut is the backbone to your health". So, I started searching how to have optimum gut health. 9/21/2021, I stopped all processed sugar. Then next step, I learned about acid reflux, then adjusted stuff. And learned from the Mayo Clinic, that if you experience acid reflux, to avoid sleeping on your right side. Just 3 months later: 1. my blood pressure was stabilized (no meds), 2. no nightly issues at night with belching/pain (no meds), 3. a side effect was = I dropped 30 lbs without even having that as a goal. If someone had told me that would be possible, I would have thought they were disinformed. Then I went to a Naturopathic doctor to see if there was anything she could add. The 1st thing she did was to recommend a probiotic. The 2nd thing, she advised me that I had a wheat intolerance. So that's another reason my health got better as I moved to whole food eating 9/21/2021. Wheat was in the cookies and the waffle cone ice cream I was addicted to. Live-and-learn. 😘 from Kentucky

Or can it not be used on its own this way?

Diabetes itself raises cardiovascular risk so it is not solely for diabetics but must be taken even more seriously in them. The "elephant in the room" here is the extent to which rampant kidney failure is being caused by widespread overuse of NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, which can be damaging to the kidneys. Is the microalbuminuria being caused by diabetes and hypertension, or by excessive use of over-the-counter pain medications? Regardless of the cause, it's a serious problem that demands much more attention.

Making a long story short… still bubbles in urine and had multi-layers once but told ignore them by the nephrologist. I was trying to save myself before I went off the cliff. So I’m doing best I can just like you said making adjusts as I go. I pray your pain from the loss of your friend has lessen with time. I think of you often and weep for you. Deepest sympathy my brother.🌀

I have been reading that having an abnormal difference in pressure from the left arm and the right arm can be an early detection of problems. For the longest time, the Dr. only took pressure on my left arm and things were great. Then, once they did the right are and he about fell off his chair! But, I discovered (my wife is a nurse) that the left arm is always very low and the right is off the scale... WHY do doctors not check both on a regular basis? Is this a marker that I should be concerned about? Great topic for a video!

Drs are incompetent. I would recommend to everyone here that they stock their home with their own medical equipment and look into paying for your own labs. They are really not that expensive. It has reached a point where I don't know why I go to doctors anymore.... they don't do the things I want... and they can't be trusted to look out for your health.

You are so right. Medicine is so protocol driven, it’s maddening. My mother was a professor of clinical medicine. She’s be horrified at this turn in how medicine is practiced. She taught me a lot in what to look out for and how to care for myself. I also have a degree in human physiology. This vexes my doctor because so have a basis to question. I know she will not authorize this test. After all, the only thing she looks at for my thyroid is the TSH. My cardiologist put me on thyroid, not my primary care doctor. She could tell I was subclinically hypothyroid. My pc doctor just relied on tests to tell her if so was or wasn’t. Maddening.

Thank you once again for a great, informative video, it really is appreciated. I wonder how much the 24hr urine test is to order. My GP will never allow it if it is expensive, they will want to just stick to NICE guidelines. One example of this is if someone is a newly diagnosed diabetic they will not allow slow release Metformin which has fewer side effects, that is.This is because it is more expensive. It is reserved for those who have very severe side effects, not for those with moderate or milder side effects. My nurse friend knows this, has some side effects, works shifts and feels like the nhs is unfair after she has given so many years in faithful service.

The tree will grow with Oliver's hair in its trunk. I miss you and blue bell :( im nearly finished lifestyle medicine and can sit the board exams next year. Just have 2 thesis to write. Xx

Thank you so much for your honesty and how much you care…
I have a friend who is a qualified nutritionist and who is 89 years old, takes no medication whatsoever and is very healthy. No arthritis…. Nothing. No high blood pressure….
I have told her about you. I don’t even have a GP. My GP retired and so far as I know I no longer have one at all. Things are so bad….
I did have type 2 diabetes but am losing weight brilliantly with Slimming World and am much healthier. No diabetes now….
Dr. Gupta, I have two heroes and you are one of them. I so very much value your help.
    Bless you

In contrast, I have a doctor who will order almost any test under the sun that I ask for. On the one hand it’s good he is open to listening to me, but I am also a slight hypochondriac so sometimes I worry that I am blood testing myself into anemia. 🙄 🤷‍♀️

    • @irenemartin48
      @irenemartin48 2 роки тому +3

@@jenniferh7297 I think it depends also on the GP you see, that is if you manage to see one, more than likely a telephone call. I've been refused tests in the past, my GP at the time said they have to justify blood tests and referrals, it's all about budgets.

Thank you doctor. You are a good teacher. But for me, I think you really need to work more on dietary recommendations and interpretation. Dietary salt is not bad provided processed foods are avoided. Low salt intake can cause hypertension due to increase in aldosterone. The number one leading cause of microalbuminuria is SUGAR. But u never mentioned it. Those drugs you mentioned can not address the root cause of microalbuminuria. My contribution to what you said based on diet and healthy lifestyles: One with microalbuminuria should undergo daily intermittent fasting, cut out sugar & processed foods, moderate protein, high good fat intake, exercise and sunlight. With patience and consistency, the person would be cured.

Hi. Could you please post a link to the discussion page you mentioned toward the end of your video? I can't find it on the website. I don't do Facebook or Instagram.
I had a heart attack about 2 months ago requiring two stents. Felt fine before and fine after. 25 year type 2 DM - now late-onset Type 1. My heart was always considered "good" and my DM in "excellent" control. A1c 5.4-5.7. HOWEVER, after watching the video, I reviewed my microalbumin results for the last 8 years, and found it was usually above normal - average about 30 and up to 55 mg/L. My GP considered this fairly normal for my history of Metabolic Syndrome X - DM/HTN/Chol. The microalbumin level was not showing any real trends, but the most recent test before my MI was up around 50.
The meds I was on were all cardioprotective - including my DM meds. High dose statins for decades, cardioprotective HTN meds, insulin pump and all of the expensive new DM meds. ALSO, a family history of heart disease.
Most of my disease risk is likely lifestyle-related, but I didn't really feel I was on a direct path to a MI or stroke. I sent your video to my GP to perhaps increase his sensitivity to microalbumin results, as it was likely a red-flag for me that was not heeded by my healthcare team. Great information!!

Urinalysis test stripes are available on line for about $15.00 US. They are so easy to use, to check for yourself at home. Color codes on bottle to compare.
