Having been driven crazy waiting for over a month to have a 'priority repair' on a line needed for medical device communications.. I dread to think how long it would take for a 'normal' line fault.. Marcus hits the spot on this one! :-)
Oh my gosh this was so me yesterday!!! By the time I actually got through to someone I gave them a right earful! Problem is I live in the countryside. ALL the lines around here are owned by bt so even if we did switch we would still have to wait for them to bloody fox it!! 😠 we were once without phones and Internet for a whole month. After three weeks of blaming our household lines they realised one of their helpful engineers had closed a lid on a line at the exchange cutting us off completely! ! We got £10 compensation for a whole month of no phones and not Internet! !! 😠😠😠😠
I do not like the systems, I particularly dislike the level of customer service but I have recently grown to understand the complexities of running a company. I have my own company which is still in its early stages, i work for myself and have had to put my life on hold, i find it so difficult to make everything work together although i am trying my hardest. It is for this reason that i am able to understand things not working, as i did to some degree before, but what i can not...
It's a long story, but BT basically tried to rob me after my years of being faithful to them. I was so angry I looked into other deals and saved a fortune. I swore then on the lives of my entire family they would never have a penny from me and 14 years later I stick to that.
I love you Marcus, everyhting you say makes sense, down to earth is the way forward although i do believe that humans are incapable of achieving perfection i do not see why we can't give it a good go?! I have had my fair share of dealings with British Telecoms, oh wait no, i mean BT!! I have had my fair share of dealings, as i'm sure...
I love you Marcus, everything you say makes sense, down to earth is the way forward although I do believe that humans are incapable of achieving perfection I do not see why we can't give it a good go?! I have had my fair share of dealings with British Telecoms, oh wait no, i mean BT!! I have had my fair share of dealings, as I'm sure everyone has, with a lot of big companies....
B's bang-on here. BT has taken on too much, the customer services are diabolical. Extremely long queues, then you're connected to an automated machine, the entire process is repeated.
I just wished I'd heard this 6 months ago when I wanted all hell unleashed on BT for screwing up the reconnection of the phone line in my new flat to the tune of a month. Hmm, though no internet for that period and no chance of using the useless sods for that!
I wish people would care enough to do what they say they are going to do without you having to take their name and threaten them but it seems like this is the only way sometimes.
marcus nearly killed me, i almost choked to death laughing at the golem joke he may well replace demetri martin as the funniest person on earth (in my opinion)
@supercokey you ordered a homehub? your already screwed. my advice is to do whatever you can to cancel your bt order now and get another provider who actually deliver what they say they will. BT broadband is a scam, if you think your gonna get 2,8 or 20 MB think again because 90% of the day your using it, it will be less than 0.5MB.
DarkAsTheNight - So AOHell haven't improved since the days of free trial CDs on the cover of almost every computer magazine in the land...why am I not surprised? But back to topic, "Smiegel wants Google" - Lol! And of course most telecoms companies like to stick you on a 12-month renewable contract, so if you move house, you have to pay them the outstanding line rental for cancelling the contract...
BT has complete contempt for its customers. I try not to think about the Kafka-esque 18 months I've just endured with BT. If I did, I'd feel tempted to fire-bomb their London HQ - and that wouldn't be right. It would be satisfying, but not right...
Your right there they cant not give the band widths they claim on their adverts all to often down to 512 kbites . Bt where is my 8 meg I am paying for??????????????????? .stop running to the government asking for tax payers money .
Well Toucan would charge you for the three months and then send debt collectors around when you refused to pay, and then claim it was a good service...
AOL is still the ultimate evil of broadband. I didn't have broadband for three fucking months because one of their idiot technicians killed my fucking modem by telling me the wrong way to fix another problem I was already having with my connection which they later told mme was their fault as well. it's also mildly depresssing when you can tell that the person you're speaking to on the phone knows fuck all about computers and is just going through a list of questions on their computer screen.
i work for bt in the broadband sales department,i appreciate that there r alot of customers that get "bounced" around but if u listen to the options with patients u will get through to the right service i take about 50-60 calls a day and a good 40% of that is people that have blatently chose the wrong option because they cannot b bothered to choose the right option, bt deal with thousands of products and services and they r not going to have one number for all that so quit wining.
Understand is having all the expertise money could buy and still being as rubbish as our friends at BT (formerly known as British Telecoms for all you Marathon eaters out there!). Most people that are worth you even considering their opinion can understand mistakes but if they are able to have that amount of empathy it would only make sense that they were not stupid enough to understand people not doing their upmost to fix it....
depends how far away you are from the exchange and what hardware you have. I have BT simply because its the best for the area. I have FIOS internet. it is very good and very fast. But hell if you try and use BT in various places in surrey. Each person has their experience. mine is very good. But I do know there are serious service flaws in some areas.
Thunderwolf666 censorship? - I would suggest you use proxies :P And yes - I haven't had an issue with service - weekly phone calls whenever theres connection issues and then an email with updates - and very helpful call centres. But a lot of people have different experiences. this is just my personal one.
I don't need to use proxies, becasue I don't use BT. My experience of BT services and call centres has been nothing but utter ineptitude and I will never deal with them again. IIRC they also employ carrier grade NAT, which is yet another reason to avoid them. I should state I have NEVER used BT broadband, my experiences of their complete failing is from my dealings with their phone services only.
Thunderwolf666 it isn't allowed to use CGN - not anymore at least with all these shitty things going on in and around the net - Yeah, each person as I said have different experiences with them. they haven't even been bad for me at all since I got a contract with them over 10 years ago.
THINK BT are bad try PIPEX they are the WORST joke of a company. i spent fing 10 MONTHS trying to get brodband with PIPEX, while they had that add's running constantly with david hassel hioff/tit, and had to give up in the end,and get BT who were a bit beter but still SH-T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is brilliant and still 100% spot on 6 years later!!!
Having been driven crazy waiting for over a month to have a 'priority repair' on a line needed for medical device communications.. I dread to think how long it would take for a 'normal' line fault.. Marcus hits the spot on this one! :-)
Thank you very much for putting up this classic rant!
They record you on hold.
This is just brilliant !!!! Especially the part with the tag on the line and about Polish guys :D

Yes, he was. Mitch Benn and Laura Shavin were the other two voices.
You know the guy playing the BT automated service is Hugh from Mock The Week. Brilliant.
LOL. Brilliant. Thank you for the much needed acknowledgement.
Was Hugh Dennis doing one of the phone voices o.O
Anyone else notice it sounds just like Hugh Dennis on the BT line from 2.44 ???
oh dear, 6 people are on bt broadband so haven't seen the whole video, it must be still buffering
Always makes me laugh my head off!
2:44 is the voice of Hugh Dennis :)
I'd love to know what ISP he's on right now, given that he's not constantly ranting about it I'm guessing its not the same as mine (Tiscali).
my BT service puts you through to an Indian man
From radio, I think.
I do not like the systems, I particularly dislike the level of customer service but I have recently grown to understand the complexities of running a company. It took us 3 months to get a line activation from BT. If Toucan, Tiscali or Pipex can do worse I'd be horrified.
it sounds like Hugh Dennis on the BT line at around 2:50, anyone else think it might be him?
It's a long story, but BT basically tried to rob me after my years of being faithful to them. I was so angry I looked into other deals and saved a fortune. I swore then on the lives of my entire family they would never have a penny from me and 14 years later I stick to that.
Spot on mate
I had this problem. Now I'm no longer using BT, and since my changeover, I've had no problems.
yup it is Hugh Dennis
I love you Marcus, everyhting you say makes sense, down to earth is the way forward although i do believe that humans are incapable of achieving perfection i do not see why we can't give it a good go?! I have had my fair share of dealings with British Telecoms, oh wait no, i mean BT!! I have had my fair share of dealings, as i'm sure...
He is so cool
I absolutely love that dave chap :D
virgin cable fibre optic is the future, richard is the kind
@oscarmofo Well, since this is from `Radio 4's The Now Show, featuring Hugh Dennis...

Very funny. So accurate.
can you imagine their political satire presented in this way? I would PAY HUNDREDS for that!
Hooray for Dave!

BT broadband, like all BT services, is crap anyway.

I'm not talking about speed. I'm talking about quality of service, and the censorshipthat BT enforces.
