OfficialMINIm The 2019 Astra 1.4L turbo is built even better and more powerful with advanced technology compared to its predecessors like the 1.6L turbo...
Love this car. Feels bulletproof. Ncap Crash testing gave it the full five stars that both the golf and ford received As well... yet it “feels” safer when I’m in it in comparison to the Golf. It’s hard to explain why that is. But I’m a huge fan now. Well done to the engineers
Currently (2018) $26k gets you a 147kW or 200 hp engine (1.6 T RS version) and an elegant euro design. For this money and if you do not plan to use on the track, the current RS Astra is the best usable-performance-car bang for back. 0 to loose-your-licence in under 7 seconds. Yes manual is much more exciting than the auto. Sure there are the GTi type of cars out there, which are better, but they cost $40 to $60k, i.e almost double the price but not double the performance. Finally, the performance matches the previous VW Golf six GTi (sold from 2009 to 2013).
The really old 1.9 Turbo diesel was 110kW and 320 Nm, manual was a ripper, very fuel efficent, we did mostly highway driving and recorded all fuel consumption with pump and Odometer readings and averaged the specified 6.0 liters per 100 klms. It was impossible in town to get more than 10 liters per 100klms. As we live in a rural area, we wanted a four wheel drive with a bullbar, as my wife once hit a kangaroo in a non mobile phone area. A very good car allround.
The 1.9 cdti also had a Fiat gearbox which was renowned for eating itself. Which is what mine did. Didn't stop me getting getting the 1.6 turbi petrol one of these though. Really good.
In Europe Astra has always been much more reliable car then Golf and each generation was better looking then Golf. The only drawback is slightly cheeper materials but on the other side they are more durable then those in Golf. Basically if you need a car for long term ownership go for Astra, if you intend to sell it after the factory guarantee expire you can take the risk and buy Golf.
EGGBIRDTHEROOSTER Hah... golf boy I know very well what I'm talking about. FACTS: 1st both car are in same segment. 2nd Golf has better material (but not better technique) which gives a bit premium feel in the cabin 3rd the materials in Astra are much more durable in a long therm 4th Even Germans classified Golf as unreliable. 5th Some people primarily in US call Golf 66 miles car - because after you pass the guarantee it is a pin in the ass 6st if you want to drive reliable car buy Astra, If you want to stay in posh interior waiting the roadside assistance or tow truck go for the Golf :)
EGGBIRDTHEROOSTER higher class? ahahah :D is golf a luxury car bro? :D hey golf fanboy, Opel was a ruler in German auto industry for decades, fell behind that peoples car brand because of financial crisis, and reborn with Astra J generation and back with K generation. Opel owes VW, fanboy.
@@eggbirdtherooster You are just bigoted in your view; the Astra won "car of the year" and is a far more greater and beautiful car than the ugly Golf...
The American (GMC) General Motors Corporation's high tech Holden, Chevrolet Astra / Cruze sedan, it's aero dynamic sporty coupe like design is a good one and a real head turner and inside is beautifully finished and so comfortable and leaves it's opposition for dead. The 1.4 litre turbo engine is 153 H.P. and moves very fast on demand with an amazing 30 M.P.G in the city & highway 40 M.P.G. Side by side compared with the very over rated often 'Recalled' Toyota Corolla's 132 H.P it is a complete no brainer. The Astra has not had any recall issues which speaks volumes and is a much loved car in America.
I was under the impression the 1.4 and 1.6 are built in Britain witch is called Vauxhall , but the 2.0 are built in Poland . All these cars have been re badge to Holden as they are part of the GM group.
Holden Astra RSV MY-18 2018 - how does it differ from the Holden Astra RSV MY-18 2017? Also, the features and specs difference? Does the 2018 have MP4 player? Can you play videos on the 2018 model or Holden Astra RSV MY-18 2017?
Ziyaad Zaman to keep the brand names alive even though Holden and Vauxhall don't produce cars but maybe in the future the Chinese or Indians or whatever pay money for the name. Example MG which the Chinese bought. I mean if you bought the MG name I would rather the Vauxhall or a Holden name much more relevant. I think that's why they are keeping the names alive.
All three names are old individual brands that under GM have been the same. Probably since vauxhall is and was a well known and probably liked car in britain and the same for holden in australia they chose to keep those names to get people buying the car without thinking about if ”that new brand” is any good. I think that Opel is sold under Buick badge in USA 🤔 If u know Dacia... Dacia cars are sold as Renault in for example South Africa and south america and in India sold both as Renault and Nissan.. but the exact same car. In europe people have been quite ”hmmm” about Dacia since in many countries it was a completley unknown brand until like 2008 and at first in like 2011 it got its hits over europe and everyone knew about Dacia. If the Dacia Duster were sold under Renault badge in europe (exept eastern europe where dacia already was big) more people would have just bought it without thinking about if ”Dacia” is any good since they already know renault.
Great review CA, but I'm pretty sure the Matrix LED headlights system isn't a class first. The facelifted Mazda3 Astina has a very similar concept, no?
JFCW The matrix version dims certain leds to stop glare. Its not just adaptive. 2k option though which you have to get as part of innovation option. You cant just the matrix.
I often had these during the few years I had my Spark as loaners when that Korean buzz box went in for servicing and was impressed for the day.Had to drive one for a few weeks after some truck ran up the Spark's rear end as an accident replacement vehicle and it had that solidity(Opel)that the Daewoo made lump of junk missed.I drove to look at replacements for the Spark(Used Mazda's,a Kia Rio and a New Fiat 500)in it and when I handed it back it gave me an Idea of what kind of cars to go for second hand.I settled using insurance pay out money on a 2008 Mazda 3 and am a lot safer for it after insurance wrote the old Korean of mine off as a total loss.
I dont understand why GM just do silly rebadges, tighten the market for Opel with local brands like Vaux and Holden... Buick is American twin for Opel its ok but why didnt close vaux and holden and bring uk and aus Opel?
Because its all about brand awareness. Vauxhall and Holden are both domestic brands with decades of being top sellers in their respective countries. At least in Australia, Opel has little brand recognition so costs involved in marketing a new unfamiliar brand are astronomical and not worth it when rebadging is sensible.
Golf 7 GTI is faster, but double the price. Golf 6 GTI straight-line performance would be similar. Yes the Golf GTI is a better car but not in the same category. Holden/Opel/Vauxhaul have not released the Astra OPC version yet, which is a direct competitor to the GTi. However, if it's speed that you want, try the Astra TCR!
@@vkgiotis You must have got your information on the back of a comic. The Golf is a crap car in many ways and I've seen so many on the back of tow-trucks and inside knacker's yards. Tha Astra is built for durability and quality.

The Vauxhall Astra is 'not' a "small car", it is an average family size car.
if you look at the sizes of them today.any small car you buy now is about the size of an early first generation Commodore or close to it.
