Then, Jeff saw Austin looking at his check one day and told him, basically, to keep looking at his check--it's not going to get any bigger. Needless to say, this REALLY pissed Austin off and Austin remembered it when Jarrett arrived in the WWF and refused to work with him when Austin became the face of the Attitude Era (to the point that he chewed out then-head booker Vince Russo for trying to book him and Jarrett--TWICE; it didn't really help that Jarrett had done a promo on his WWF debut in 1997 where he called Austin 3:16 blasphemous)... Austin wasn't the only one who was paid like that--Bob Holly also wrote about how little Memphis paid him in his book...

Nell - I grew up watching Jeff in the Memphis territory (Blytheville, AR) and to me he took a much better ass kicking than he gave out. The young, high-flying energetic babyface was a great role for him. I could never buy into him as a heel. But I will say this... this is one of the WORST promos he ever did. Lol
