  • At the 2M simplex stop of the Wayne County Repeater Crawl, or Dweeb Crawl according to Fools, Buffoons, & Idiots(FBI) club member N8HTV, last Friday I suddenly lost all measurable TX power on 2M only. 2M receive still worked great, as did both RX and TX on 440. I also later determined that all HF RX and TX was a-ok as well. The same SRFJ7044 final is used for 2M and 440 on this radio, so I knew that I was going to find something less obvious that simply a blown final.
The problem is a section of PCB trace on the PA board. I am going to repair this section with a jumper and check the entire path from the SRFJ7044 to the antenna connector to make sure there is nothing else that caused that trace to burn other than years of abuse and a time when there was a bad connection from the PA board to the VHF/UHF antenna connector that I fixed a long while back.
UPDATE: I checked the circuit path from the mosfet to the antenna connector, and all looks well so I made the jumper to fix the break in the PCB. 2M TX is working great again.

Is that just the standard service manual or something else that you’re looking at?

    Did the jumper work?

Great detective work so far. Now that that trace might be the "fuse" in this circuit, where is the short? Maybe an antenna section if it is a dual bander? Or was there just a poor connection here?
