Such a wonder... She was such a honest and delicious artist. Her so clean singing really amazes because of her natural, personal timbre, but also because of her "easiness", that easiness that is the upmost virtue of the superior artists. Thanks a lot for sharing it.
First came across this wonderful soprano when I was only in my early teens and she became one of my life long favourites. Lucky to have seen/heard her a few times at the ROH/London when she was in her prime.
XDear Paul, if there was one singer who was always in her prime, it was Pilar Lorengar. Many singers go down the hill, but Pilar was one of a selected group that delivered the same quality during her lifetime (like e.q. her collegue Arleen Auger). Pilar performed Ebben (La Wally) in Madrid 10th May 1991, when she was 63 and she brought the house down with still that huge volume , enormous breath (control) and ...how beautiful she still was.Almost Royal Style. See the many comments everywhere, saying the same about her "eternal prime". She was incredable and for many (including me) one of the best sopranos of her days.
Que Pilar fuera capaz de cantar con la misma pasión, técnica y maestría sin despeinarse papeles mozartianos y papeles veristas de Puccini y en ambos dejar su personal sello de voz cálida y dulce es cuanto menos admirable. En un especial de 1979 que realizó TVE sobre estrellas españolas de la ópera, Pilar confesaba sentirse orgullosa de poder cantar por igual la Elsa de Lohengrin (Wagner) y el rol titular de Manon Lescaut de Puccini, algo que no debe ser común entre las sopranos más reputadas, ni siquiera quizá entre las más osadas que todo lo abordan, aun a riesgo de fracasar estrepitosamente.

Love her interpretations of Mozart and her recording of Traviata. Ethereal voice.

Thanks, I love her voice, to me, her voice is crystal clear. As a beginner to opera when I was young, her opera recital CD was always my favorite.
