      @thefirstonefree 11 місяців тому +4

Exactly, that's not a silly thing.... it is one highly recommend.... especially that in this case is about the land that became a garden, it is about Earth herself.
Although I do not agree with this method of topping up compost and actually not growing the plants that much into the soil of the garden, I very much enjoyed watching your videos. So I thank you, your team and your garden for that and I hope to enjoy as much the secret garden.... hopefully with a bit more plants into the soil and a bit more 'disturbance' of it 😂
(because that sort of 'disturbance' is actually so good for the soil and the health of the planet herself)

It must be such a relief to know the garden will be cared for. When I left my subtropical paradise garden we had made in Australia, the new owners had destroyed most of it within months - partly deliberately, partly just through neglect. The back garden was then excavated to make room for a pool. The only way to get over the devastation has been to make a new and excting temperate garden here in New Zealand. I just feel sad, not only for the lovely place it was, but also for the children who will grow up with a sterile space, no joy of growing living things, and just a pool.

@@trilliarobinson7862 hello, I totally understand you, and even if I don't know your garden I feel bad the new owners have destroyed a little paradise full of life you made 😞. Australia has lost a little paradise, New Zealand is winning one... I personaly moved to my house 4 years ago (from an appartment, in France) and I've been inspired by many youtubers since to create my little permaculture garden. It begins to look quite nice and efficient, and sometimes I think about "if I have to move (even if it's not in my plans !), will the new owners destroy all that ?" and that hypothesis breaks my heart...I wish you a nice gardening journey in your new place !

Thanks Melodie ! I think we all have to accept that new owners won't love our gardens as we do. Not only an ode to your Garden, but also to the great parenting of your mother and father. Not only have they given you the ability to sustain yourself and others through nutrition, but they have also, obviously, given you the ability to express yourself emotionally in a calm manner. Hi, I was so upset when I started watching this ‘farewell to the garden’ video, as I have been watching you since you were very young, you were and still are a huge inspiration to me…..you saved me in during lockdown, I felt as though I had a very interesting friend….then you said your Dad was having it back and you were still going to continue sharing ideas and your usual cheerful self with us all! What a huge relief!
I feel rather selfish, but everyone tells me that as one door closes another one opens!

Oh my goodness, I was thinking the same thing! I actually thought it was all done and I actually started *grieving* the loss of Huw's constant presence and this garden that he has caused to have such a huge impact on my life! And then he goes on to say it's not over...either the channel or this garden. Phew!! Thank you so much Huw, for all the work you have done for so many years! I didn't find you til about 5 years ago, but I think I have went back and watched every video you have made:) I don't comment a lot, but I do occasionally. I felt like this one needs a comment as it is a huge change but exciting new beginnings. I'm so glad my first perception was wrong but I thought I would take the opportunity to let you know how much of a positive impact you've made. The wisdom, beauty, freedom and so much of your personal life/joy of what you do, shared on your channel are absolutely refreshing and encouraging. You have inspired me to garden with abandon and to keep curiosity and fun at the center so my garden doesn't feel like a burden, but a great adventure....even when my growing season is 2 months long 😜 Thank you again:)

Phew 😅 so glad to hear it is not the end of your channel Huw and no, it is not a funny idea by any means to thank the garden. As I’m sure you will already know, just like you and every single one of us the plants, wildlife & creatures that live there as well as the earth are “life” itself. All of us are living beings. If we/they were not, none of us would exist. We each have a role to play as guardians of the earth and we each are dependent on the other.. so with that in mind I’m sure your all encompassing garden appreciates you as well and the connection you have formed through the transference of the love and energy you put into it.. and that you have received in return. It has responded with an abundance of nutritious, life giving food and given much pleasure, healing and joy which you will also, receive from which ever garden you create. All the very best 🙏🏼

I started watching you when you were a little kid, I thought it was a little weird for a kid to have a gardening channel and what could I learn from him but I subscribed lol. And I would periodically watch your videos with increasing frequency. It has been nice to watch you grow up and evolve as gardener. You are leaving behind a beautiful space but I am sure you will create a new one. You are still young and a new adventure is a great new learning opportunity. Look forward to watching the new garden evolve along with you.

The first video I watched of yours was one where you showed us how to start pea seedlings in a length of gutter and then transplant them by sliding them out of the gutter and into a shallow trench. I bought your book too. You've certainly inspired me! In a world full of men whose attention is on other less valuable pursuits, it was refreshing to see a man cultivate the ground with passion and knowledge seeminly beyond your years, and do so successfully. Anyways. A new chapter sounds like quite the adventure, and I am excited to see what you do!

Omg, I felt really choked up hearing you say your goodbyes to this beautiful place! I have followed your career since discovering one of your videos, perhaps when you were 13 or so, showing viewers how to take rose cuttings. I thought it was the sweetest thing seeing a lad so young sharing such a ‘grown up’ topic with so much enthusiasm. I have rejoiced over the years seeing your channel grow, and you alongside with it. You deserve every success, Huw!
I’m sure the next venture will be an ever more successful chapter in your life. All the best, and I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

I'm Australian and have watched yours and Mark's (from Selfsufficientme) channels for years. I have a tiny garden but grow as much food as I can. I had a horticulturalist ask me if I'd like him to help me plant out my garden when I was unwell for a couple of years and he mentioned the flowers he had in mind. I didn't recognise the plants he mentioned and asked "can you eat it?" He laughed and said "no" so I declined his offer. I never saw him again! I get a lot of my knowledge from my Grandad and also from you and Mark. Thank you and good luck on your future endeavours! 💜

And me. Plus Charles Dowding. I started growing at 4, thanks to my dad too. I’m now 71 and still learning and enjoying growing and eating the produce, now experimenting with using aquaponics for easier propagation of stem cuttings as well as wicking beds, raised beds, vertical growing, and wild food forest (banana circle, paw paw, sweet potato, ginger, tumeric, galangal, herbs), and quails, all in just about 35sqm of what was once a tiled waterfront. My friends think I’m mad to create so much work, but this lifelong interest, the closeness to nature, witnessing the life cycles and competing & symbiotic relationships, is what has kept me physically healthy, mentally alert and psychologically content all these years. I look forward to your next series Huw

Man, you got me with that thumbnail. 😱
While I live in a _radically_ different climate and can't really take away too terribly much in terms of certain crops, I've enjoyed your channel for quite a while now. I'm glad you touched on this being your career, because that's where I've stumbled a bit personally - I wanted a garden like this and honestly felt like I wasn't doing enough, and my wife has to remind me that I already have a full time job and about 1000 other obligations, and there just isn't the time. She's echoed what you said here, and I need the reminder sometimes.
You've done more for making me want to visit Wales than any Welsh Tourism Board ever could. 😂
I'm looking forward to seeing the new garden progress.

Beautiful tribute to a hugely formative part of your life, and ours. As much as your Dad gets his garden back, I think he will miss having you there. Roots and wings, right? You built roots in this garden, and now you're spreading your wings. In some way, that's why your parents chose the John Seymour/Tom and Barbara lifestyle - so that just this would happen.
