Please no...I'm tried of it being normalized to have both ,they can get each other sick if you don't take the right precautions
and both animals can get so expensive when it comes to vet bills.. I also feel like if you have two different kinds of prey animals your time is split and you won't get too much time to notice if one is having an issue cause you're having to take care of both. I think people love the idea because both are really cute i just don't think its fair to the animals to take on two high matienence pets.
No, not really. I think she'd be great at having bunnies but you can get in way over your head with pets really easily. SIX piggies is going to be plenty of work and bills, unless she's really that sure she can take on more. Rabbits need a lot of attention and research...and space away from the piggies. And they can cost a lot of money. And with any animal, you also never know what you're going to get. When I got my youngest bunny I had two others and I looked at my new one as kind of a "fun addition" (she was a surprise rescue) and she's ended up costing *thousands* in vet bills and needing so much care over the past five years that I literally would have had to put her down many times over if I didn't have the flexibility and support to, at times, barely leave the house and pay serious bills - some that will go on for the rest of her life. She's doing great now and I have zero regrets on rescuing her (esp knowing most ppl would have put her down) but adding any animal to the family shouldn't be done lightly.
@@tecneon I agree. I hate when I'm taking care of someone else's animals and I feel my focus splitting too much...even just having multiple unbonded bunnies was so hard at times. Having a herd of piggies or a pair/trio of bonded bunnies is one thing -- they're right next to each other! But fully separate pets, you're right, it's very difficult. I now only have one rabbit (she can't be bonded b/c of her health) and I never want to have pets that live separately ever again. Never. The amount of stress and worry was really high, esp when inevitably there are health issues. Rabbits might live nearly twice as long as piggies but they still age -- and until they do get older, they're much more active and destructive than piggies. They need a lot of attention. I don't want to make it sound like I think piggies are easy. But comparing a herd like this to a pair of active, young rabbits...there's no doubt the rabbits are a lot more involved.
I think bunnies are a bit overrated having adopted a few. Less interaction than piggies, relatively short lives as prone to poor health and claws that can leave deep scratches.
@@tecneon I disagree with you, and agree with you at the same time. I have a rabbit and two hamsters and I want piggies (me and my sister do) my rabbit takes up my whole room and I provide mat hamsters with large enclosures. I think having multiple pets (that are different species) is great, but it all comes down to the person. some would feel overwhelmed taking in a bunny or two while owning piggies but some wouldn't mind it at all. and yes vets can get very expensive and rabbits do need to be spayed and or neutered so that is an additional cost, but if you want an animal and know what your getting into I thinks its fine to pursue the pet (if you have the space, money, and knowledge.) I think she would be a great bunny owner, if she wanted to own bunnies!! ☺

Sarah I am so happy you got back to your UA-cam videos, you are amazing and I love watching you. I got my first boy in December 2021 and my second about a year later, took me awhile to find a friend, no rescues in BC Canada. My boys are in a 6 by 3 c and c cage, I wish I could get more boys lol

i enjoy your videos! I don't need much piggy advice really but just like watching the content! With the wooden hides - i have a big resch corner hideout - i use a little piece of those washing up sponge scourers with warm water, washing up liquid and white vinegar (sometimes followed by f10 for a deep disinfect) ,let air overnight- comes up a treat! (and easier than sanding down)

I got a free piggie from a friend. he's a little underweight I think. he had no hay so I gave him hay and he's happy. he's also chirping too and he's cuddling under my sweatshirt on my stomach right now. he's definitely content and he's kicking his little let's to get cozy. AND he doesn't bite!!
I don't think he EVER got hay because when I gave him some, he absolutely demolished it

Perking up when rabbits enter the discussion 😂 I'm on the other end, having rabbits (just one now 💔) and watching piggie videos. My feeling is that rabbits are a lot of work compared to piggies, if you're keeping them in the ideal manner having both...it feels like a full time job! It also takes so much space since they can't be together. I'll always go rabbits over piggies because rabbits live longer and are easier to box train and keep more like a cat rather than having to let them in and out. But at the same time that means permanently proofing the space. For our doe we have several pieces of furniture fenced off and we want to do metal legs on tables etc in the future! But I love just having her roaming 24/7. I also feel like bonding is harder with bunnies. I know piggies can be tough too but having watched people do both... rabbits can be so difficult 😅 I bet you'd be an amazing bunny owner though

Interesting, my experience is that guinea pigs live longer than bunnies. Or we were just really unlucky with those we adopted. One of the main reasons we stopped owning pets for a very long time.

I have so loved your channel, your energy (where do you get it!?), and your love for piggies. 😊 Thank you for putting so much time into your herd and your channel. ❤ I did have one question. I buy my hay (Timothy) from a farmer, a bale at a time. It's so much cheaper, even though we drive about 60-70 miles one way, to obtain it. We also have fields, across the road, where we occasionally pick fresh alfalfa, which he loves! My concern is that I haven't found "organic" hay and worry about future nuerological side effects from any chemicals that may be sprayed onto it. He does get his organic "wheaks" (treats) nightly, in the form of vegetables and some fruit. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the hay. I think store-bought is most likely sprayed as well. Thanks so much! 🧡

I'm also a long term guinea pig servant, but I'm more of a watcher than a maker.
Some food name suggestions for piggies: Peanut, Noodle, Rhubarb, Pinto Bean (Bean or Pinto for short), Pepper, Sunflower (seeds), Olive Oil, Sarsaprilla, Parsley, Fugi (apples)... It is so heartwarming to see the love and affection you give to your furry potatoes. ❤

Hi Sarah I have a late question. My two boars have been getting along great until a few days ago. They are father and son. Leo is about 3-4 years old and Liam just turned 6 months. They suddenly started chasing and humping each other. It looked like the young one was challenging his dad. Is this a one off and is there anything I can do to help them get along? Thank you for these videos. I happened to stumble on you a year and a half ago and have been watching ever since. I have a question..... I have two piggies. A neutered male, Chip (about 5 yrs. old) and I just got a 1 yr. old female, Tina (not spayed). Do I need to get Tina spayed? I have only had Tina for two weeks but Chip doesn't chase her as much anymore but still does at times. You have a neutered male. Are there any issues between him and the females? I would love to get some advice.
I’m soon getting 2 piggies and am considering putting their cage in my room, one of my concerns is do they tend to squeak a lot at night and does their cage smell?
Can I just throw this in there, maybe way off but. Our dog became incontinent about a year after her spay, it can happen in spayed dogs and does happen way after the op. So I wonder if the same can happen to piggies, in her case she would wet herself. She's on meds to stop this happening, so the opposite of what you are saying but possibly a connection to op especially if she never had it before op. Even vets that have a keen interest in exotics often don't know much, I had to show our vet how to check one of our pigs for arthritis. I knew he had it so went to vet to have it confirmed and pain meds on repeat, the vet couldn't find what I meant lol.....I have 8 guinea pigs indoors and 4 rabbits outside yes they are a much bigger and different responsibilty.
Can I ask why you decided to have a piggie room ? Our heard is currently in our living room. We have debated moving then upstairs to our spare room but ate worried that they wouldn't get the same amount of time spent with us x
Totally fine to have them in the living room and probably nicer from a socialising with them point of view ☺️ it's because of the UA-cam channel, filming (and all the equipment that comes with), editing etc that I will spend a lot of time in their room and want to make it a nice working space as well as piggie zone 🥰 x
Im thinking of getting a guinea pig for my birthday in 10 days and i was wondering, is it okay to have a guinea pig in an apartment? Obviously ill let them run outside of the cage for a bit but based off of cage size would an average desk sized one story cage be okay. Id like to replace my desk with their new home.
