AMD Ryzen 7 8700G is a good choice for a mini PC with a TDP of 65w to keep the cooling requirements at a minimum.

There is a good chance that AMD did test it out first before releasing it but could of caused issues which is why they went for the 760M instead and also just be happy they didn't go with the 740M instead like they did with the 8500G.

Then the consumer has fewer reasons to buy a dGPU. They will make more money if you buy a 8600G and a budget GPU from them than if you buy just a 8600G. (to use your example)

I have this APU as a project; wasn't looking for budget build. I have it in an itx set-up
To get the most I'm having to buy a new motherboard. An APU is extremely RAM-centric. Needs PBO and EXPO to get most out of it. I will be using the old mobo and RAM for another ITX machine.
When I get it tuned right with my 6800mhz RAM I'll transfer it into a thermaltake 100 with an LCD AIO and colour/theme it as Rebecca from Cyberpunk Edgerunners

@@stevenknight95well it is if you consider the watt/performance/temps ratio
Having a gpu instead of this cpu make your watt goes twice higher , or even more
Thoses watts turn into heat that must be cooled down by fans , heating your room
The room must be cooled down , spending more watts
So basicaly while you might spend less on a gtx 1060 , not only you wont have things like ray tracing of fsr , but you will also loose more money on watts , and once you want to upgrade , you will have to buy a whole new computer , while the ryzen 8700 will just need a gpu
The cpu temps can be reduced by 50% if you disable core boost , that only increase your performance by 10% , while gpu dont have this
Also , for thoses wattercooling fans , a wattercooled gpu with a wattercooled cpu is hard to build , meanwhile , since the igpu is only using 20% of the cpu , you might not even need a fan on your cooler , so less heat to cool down
Theres only 2 small problems with this build , first , like its said on the video , the ram , they cost a lot , but also one of the most important , the game compatibility
While in the video hes talking about the fact that its good to play less demanding games , theres some games that only work with a gpu , honkai star rail for exemple , it was working on release , but now it doesnt anymore
And for someone like me that wanted to buy a ryzen 8700 computer to play casual games like this one for low watt cost on thoses summer days , well...i cant , and who know what other problems there is , most games are made to be played on gpu while using the system ram for solething else , they try to use the gpu ram and the cpu ram for 2 diferents things
So...i will wait for more test , or maybe a newer apu , cause i think i will stop buying gpu cards , its not like i will "see" thoses 200 fps

I actualy want to use the stock amd cooler without the fan , saving more money , dissipating less heat

APU performance is kindova moot point on a desktop IMHO. Laptops and ultraportables yeah, I can see the appeal. But when even the latest and gretest apu does worse than dedicated chips that are pushing a decade old and can be had for next to nothing (the 970 sells for less than 50 bucks online and comfortably outperforms the apu on this) why bother is the question (at least for the APU side, the CPU is still great).

TDP. In an office/desktop environment, low TDP and integrated graphics translates directly to small and quiet. Think about this in a small ITX case with a 280mm AIO cooler. Whisper quiet and out of sight.
And then there is straight power cost. My desktop system is using close to 200W and I'm just on youtube. I have a 2200G system built for my wife years ago that uses about 30W for normal desktop use and peaked at 90W running benchmarks. Figure there is at least $100/yr difference in operating cost, and my electricity is only US$0.09/kwh.
That GTX 970 would cost a lot more to operate, so you only save money on it if you don't pay your own bills.
There are not just lifecycle/operating costs to think of. I am looking one to stick one in an RV. My current 3700X + RX6700XT desktop was efficient in it's day, but sucks too much power for remote use - it would require generator or grid power to run in an RV for very long.
A 65w APU system would fit into the space behind the monitor stand and run with a direct DC-DC power supply, so it can runs off the battery bank without the inverter's or regular AC power supply unit's efficiency loss.
Setup one of these fixed in the RV, and I not only do I no longer need to pay $$$ for a gaming laptop to game on the road - but this would use even less juice than the laptop. I am looking at off grid solar powered gaming, boondocked in a national forest for a day or two while taking a break from a cross country trip.

Why AMD chose to give this chip only PCIe 4.0 and not 5.0 blows my mind. Clearly AMD is purposely leaving room for the upcoming Ryzen 9000 series chips, which also go from 16 TOPS NPU on the 8000 series up to 40 TOPS NPU/IPU/TPU (Ai chip) on the 9000 series. I dont even know why AMD bothered with the 8000 series. I wish I could buy a 9000 series chip right now. Clearly the 780M is a killer iGPU, I absolutely love the 780M in my Beelink SER7 mini PC and Ryzen 7 7840HS. I guess I'm going to buy the Ryzen 7800X3D now since I have a high end RTX card, and I'll sell my Ryzen 7800X3D when the 9000 series comes out. Annoying though because I dont have to have to do all of that lol. The 78003DX with a good GPU still smokes the 8700G with the SAME GPU being tested...meaning the 7800X3D is the better chip if you're going to be using a dedicated video card. I'm disappointed because I still wanted to buy an 8700G and pair it with my RTX, because if my RTX dies, having the 780M is a sick backup iGPU...but in this case, the 8700G will hold you back. Lots of UA-cam benchmark videos between the 7800X3D and the 8700G to prove it. What the heck, AMD?

yup, after tank helped whatshisface to grow his channel, he just picks up and leaves. i get it, dude had to go sort out his kid in the us and no doubt that cost a pretty penny...but it's been years now. im sure the dude's *coining* it big time with close to 1m subs. why hasnt he tried to get tank over? not that my opinion matters, but that just doesnt sit right with me. (i unsubbed from all of whatshisface's channels when it became clear that he totally abandoned tank 😠 )
