What could have been. Lakers weak spot was always power forward before AC Green was drafted. Spencer would have been great as a Laker if not for the drugs.
The way this guy handles it is a lot different from how Bernard King handles talking about his past if you ask Bernard King about his off-the-court problems you MIGHT get punched in the face but Spencer has always been open about his horrible mistakes with drug addiction.
Maybe cause Bernard seemed to turn his career and life around pretty early on. Spencer never really did. During his career. You never felt you could truly rely on Spencer. That was not the case with Bernard.
There’s no way players came up to him based on his portrayal in winning team. Yes players understand his history and what he’s done but in NO WAY he shown in a positive light in the series.
You can never erase your past it’s life, you can only improve and make it better and that’s what he did 🤷🏾♂️ they let him in the hall for a reason I’m sure they came up to him…
Y’all are missing the point. I love Spencer Haywood just like any NBA historian. What I’m saying is NBA players have always come up to him to pay their respects for what he’s done for the players. However, none of that was covered in the show. When he says they came up to him because of Winning Time he was exaggerating to make a point.
In the show they show a lot of his positive attributes and accomplishments as well as his negative ones, the man accomplished a lot of things that people should respect but he also had faults like any person
Not often do you see someone both acknowledge their faults honestly while still calmly advocating for their truth and legacy
Spencer Haywood was a great player and i am glad he is getting his flowers now 🏀
Man I’m loving this dude!
Thanks for this interview 🙏🏼
