Not sure if you're still checking the comments section 5 years later but this was a great lecture! Helped me understand the wall on a much deeper level :D
Thanks for taking the time to do this. For whatever reason I really struggle in a traditional academic setting. I lose focus and can't apply myself in a classroom or lecture hall, but I love learning. People like you allow me to educate myself and even though I don't get an academic award for doing so, it improves my life. For that I thank you!
You're very welcome! Glad the videos are useful for you -- and there's a term for the sort of education you've got in mind here: "lifelong learning", they typically call it
Glad you liked the video. I don't generally do that sort of paper assistance on my UA-cam video or channels. I'd say that if you read the story closely, you'll see, narrated through some of the characters, what Sartre thinks about patriotism and socialism in the Spanish Civil War. If you're interested in tutoring -- which I do engage in -- you can email info@reasonio.com
Thanks a lot for posting this lecture. This really helped me get a better understanding of this story and much of the meaning behind it. Your reading and analysis is a big help in preparing me to write my literary analysis on The Wall, and I appreciate that very much!
Wellll. . . Not sure I'd agree with that myself. He seems to me a lot like the main character in his novel, The Age of Reason. I thin k if I was an atheist, and I was looking for an existentialist hero, I'd more likely pick Camus, or Sartre's partner, De Beauvoir
genius piece of work, Greg! Thank you! I'm writing an assignment about socialism versus patriotism in Spain and France, and I thought The Wall could provide me with some of Sartre's thought on that subject. Can you help me in finding something helpful in the short story? Something that says something about socialism and political orientation? Thanks a lot. :)
If you want me to work for you - beyond the free content I've already provided - to help you with your presentation, you can book my time in a tutorial session. If you're interested in that, here's my site - reasonio.wordpress.com/tutorials/
I've already devoted some of my rather scarce time responding to you. Watch the full video, read the text, or book my time. Those are the options I have for you.
Well, then you're probably looking either for tutorial or for academic coaching services on my part. Here's my page for the former - reasonio.wordpress.com/tutorials/

You're welcome -- this was one of my first encounters with Sartre, long ago, as an undergrad. Fun to come back to it

Thanks a lot for the lecture. This book is my first encounter with Sartre's work and I needed someone to help me understand it deeply.
Glad it was helpful for you
@@GregoryBSadler is there any chance you could analyze the childhood of a leader by Sartre too? I had a hard time getting the messages from that one

@@GregoryBSadler ok yeah, I understand😅
In a word, Yes. Sartre articulated public stances on these, and on other post-colonial conflicts, and engaged many other intellectuals about them

The first time I read this I thought about biting the doctors hand about the same time Juan did...what does that say about me?
No idea. Maybe that you identify in an extraordinary way with that character?
helpful
glad to read it
Wel... Isn't this cheerful.
Probably not. Generally, you don't go to Existentialist authors for cheerfulness
