I think their first mistake is trying to say that Wednesday is whimsigoth. Whimsigoth, to me, is the witchy era from the 90s... Dark purple, plum, mossy green, gold, silver... celestial details. Wednesday should have been more black and tones of gray. I assume they were trying to mix in Enid, but they completely whiffed. I think they just missed the whole aesthetic completely. And yes, I definitely think their target is middle school girls.
Whimsy goth should not have been what they called this collection, I totally agree with you one what you think it is. The whole celestial imagery I feel like should have be part of it. I didn't watch the new Wednesday show, so I have no idea that there was even the slightest bit of cohesiveness to this collection. It really missed the mark. I've seen a lot of comments on other peoples post that is swiftie coded.... and I'm also not a huge fan of hers....
That big eye pillow is going to be the stuff of my nightmares. And holy gods YES to the Panera vibes on some of the art! It's so much more dark academia than it felt any kind of goth. I did like the black hand though; if I ever make jewelry again that would make for a good prop haha.
Swing and a miss in my opinion. I unfortunately missed the monet spring collection which I’m very sad about. But this one just isn’t quite it, everything just feels slightly off.
I loved the ribbons and lace, I want to make something out of it. I wish they sold the fabric from the "oh my goth" pillow by the yard so I could make my own pillow without a saying. I'm not really a fan of sayings. It made me really happy to see spooky things this soon in the year. I did buy the violin shelf (with a coupon, of course) and my vintage toys look so darling on it. Some of the pieces are so cute and sweet by themselves but together it feels like they're only connection is the color tones
I’m sure if you went in Spoonflower or something similar you could find a custom fabric so that you could sew your own pillows with it! there were individual pieces that were cute, my mom ended up going back and buying one of the frames. I just couldn’t appreciate the individual pieces because as a whole collection it just didn’t sit well with me.
It was banana bread from our favorite coffee shop. MY grandma had bought me the lof. it was so good. I'm really not sure who the market was, because the ads made it seem more elevated... but I guess it's like Twilight was originally pitched as an adult novel not a YA 😂
I am not whimsy goth, but I am doing the pink and black thing in my home, kinda flea market style ...I wanted the plaid pink and black pillow, but it had some random "oh my goth" phrase on it that ruined it..... everything has stupid phrases....I liked the color scheme, but not the collection.
I do a lot of my decor hunting via Auction Ninja because our thrift stores tend to get so over picked. I'm all about the maximalist decorating when it come to decor. There was such potential here that bad to be ruined by word art that no one wanted.
I knew nothing of this collection so I thought it was supposed to be like "Victorian tea room finds some black paint and black lace." Most of it was so not my style, but the floofy historical romance with a dash of black and gold was fine enough. There were a couple things that I was like "ooh, I kind of like that." And then you hit me with the "whimsigoth" and just wtf where. Not a single item even whispers whimsigoth to me. When I think whimsigoth I think purple and green and rich jewel tones, celestial and plants and springtime witchy. Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Practical Magic. Daywalker goth. Victorian tea room is the furthest thing from my mind when I think whimsigoth, and the first thing I thought of when I saw that collection.
I’m thankful that Michael’s took a shot at halfway to Halloween however I totally agree with the whole line being unfocused, not whimsical goth or even having actual elements from Nevermore Academy (Wednesday played cello, not violin). It’s dollar store Andy Warhol at best with early 2k’s Eiffel Tower French pallet. It lacks quality in the materials -I mean close to 30 bucks for stuffed cardboard cutout w/a terribly pixelated image of a moth, really? Overall it lacks weathering, texture & details in the colors especially in the ceramic stuff. I will always love Michael’s, it’s my go to for many things and we’ve seen amazing stuff from them, that’s what makes the Nevermore line very underwhelming. I get the idea of blending dark colors with pastel colors to represent Wednesday and Enid, but the colors are separated with black lines, not gold. If they wanted to incorporate gold, they could’ve used weathered gold and a dark turquoise or a type of blue/green color with a detailed Medusa,Siren or bees/bugs. Something to that effect to actually portray an ounce of either whimsical goth, Nevermore Academy or the characters in the show (colors schemes & spirit animals).
So as someone that has *not* seen the newest tv show Wednesday, I couldn't find any direction at all. You nailed it when the fact that the gold should have been weathered at least and a turquoise would have been a lovely tie in!!
Exactly! There are beautiful colors to play with and even if you haven’t seen the show, the Nevermore line should’ve had a story as simple and cohesive as Nevermore=Edgar=Raven. Since there’s no Edgar Allan Poe story being told by the products of this line, that’s why it feels it has no direction.
It was sooooooo bad. Like I feel like they camera didn't even show how low quality this collection was. Which is sad because all of their other summer stuff was fine.
That pillow with the eye is horrible. The print is so basic I wanna cry. They could have done so much more creatively. And I’m so over having items with sayings on them - the one dish with lace on it would be passable for cute if it didn’t have words 😢 makes it so junky and untimeless
Honestly the print of that dish and the other printed things had a weird texture to them so you know it's going to scratch and flake off. Ultimately leaving it with no purpose other than a dust collector. There was so much potential that this collection could have had and it missed the mark.
I felt the same exact way seeing this collection what a bummer!! Quite cringey and toadally like the mean girls from hs pink washed a kinda goth line. Ew-eth 🤢

Your descriptions of this disaster of a line made for the perfect mood board 😂
😂 I just don't get any of it. You know as we talked about it!!

It was just all off

I didn't even know there was a Monet collection for the spring. Now I'm sad I missed out on that one 😅

My first thought…I need some banana bread now. I think the most accurate word is juvenile. It has to be made for early junior high and younger

@@Meghan_Moon "word art that no one wanted" 👍

I lost it at the framed picture of the books. What an absolute miss of a collection
For real. The art is so stock photo with no character or cohesiveness.
I'm not even whimsi-goth and I'm sat here going WTAF? Glad, for once, we don't have a Michael's in the UK 😂 Epic fail.

It was so bad and cheap I wanted nothing
right?? the quality of this collection was like extra low for some reason.
I agree-not cute at all
I still don't know who the market for this was 😂
I felt the same exact way seeing this collection what a bummer!! Quite cringey and toadally like the mean girls from hs pink washed a kinda goth line. Ew-eth 🤢
it was the pale pink plaid that sealed the deal for that vibe
You’re spot on with the “early 2000s VS does goth” line 😂
you know I nail those oddly specific descriptions
