Wanted to learn about features of the 2015 VW Jetta Hybrid SEL three minutes into this video and its a multi volume(one sec quiet to get you to turn it up then BLAST loud) thing. Its mostly about her and horses.......
I like the dash better than what you'd see on the Jetta's competitors: Civic/Corolla/Focus/Sentra, etc....also, the dash isn't so over done like a luxury car. It's simple with a touch of chrome detail that looks amazingly well. :) Too bad VW doesn't offer this in lower trims. :'(
I want to hang out and speak in accents like that! Great review. Enjoyed all the details and the editing. One of the better car reviews and reviewers I have seen lately. Thanks!
Quick note, Not a DSG transmission in the S, SE, or SEL. The only trims the DSG is available in is the TDI and GLI. The other models are a 5 speed S-Tronic Transmission.
I don't mind light steering as long as the vehicle has a really good sense of center for the highway straights. Babysitting the wheel to just go straight is exhausting.
I got one of these as a rental (in white) when my Honda was in the shop for the airbag inflator recalls. First thing I noticed was all the hard plastics. I never thought I would see more hard plastic in a German car than in a Toyota, even Corollas have a little pad of fabric by the "elbow wells" on the door panel. EVERYTHING, from the door panels to the entire dash, was Fisher-Price quality hard plastic. No attempt whatsoever to make things a little on the softer touch side. Not even faux leather stitching, which is popular these days in this class. 2nd thing I noticed was the "3" as the first VIN digit, meaning the final point of assembly was somewhere in Mexico. The 3rd thing I noticed was the funny movement/engagement of the transmission when you are stopped at a red light, and you take your foot off the brake, the car bucks a little, the transmission wasn't very smooth with regard to shifting in general and that can annoy some car enthusiasts. Women will not mind at all. I took it out on the twisties, and while the frame was tight and I didn't notice any significant understeer at the limits, the engine is all about that raspiness with no power to go along with it. Makes noise but doesn't want to move. I didn't even bother to pop the hood to see what engine was in there, whatever it was I would guess about 1.4L to 1.9L of displacement with no more than 105HP to 115HP at top rev. On the plus side, the car seems VERY FRUGAL in the fuel department. I was given the car with a full tank, drove about 60 miles or so, some of those miles really hard, and when I went to refill the tank it took only $3 of regular (at about $1.89/gallon). The car had about 10,000 miles on the odo. Would I buy one? No way in hell... Makes a great Uber of Lyft car though.
i heart vw Base it was my friend.... However it was a rental with 10,000 miles on the odo. Pretty sure it was current gen. Rental fleets only run cars for a couple of model years before they get sold off.
The 1.8 TSI isnt a DSG. I had a loner while my DSG was in the shop and it will not automatically upshift in manual mode. It also lets you start in 2nd gear however the dsg does automatically upshift at redline in manual mode and will only start in first gear from a stop. I also think the 2.0 115 hp Jetta S starts at $16000. The 1.8 170hp Jetta SE starts at $18000.
I was one of those who defended you when you got bashed for asking for donations. But TFL refusing to let us support you using establed payment system makes me think you are doing just fine. I am not creating another account on another specialized website, when there is PayPal. Peace :)
Did you know that if you press and hold the *unlock button* on the key fob...that all the windows will roll down simultaneously, and will roll back up when you press and hold the *lock button* again?... ( FYI...the steering "feel" gets heavier and sharper at higher speeds. )
+21FILTHY Do you mind if i ask if you have the stock clutch and if so how many miles have you put on it since the APR upgrade? Notice any slippage etc?
+Rick B I do have the stock clutch. You don't have to upgrade your clutch for Stage 1. I've had it for almost 600 miles so it's still new and no slippage yet. Ill keep you updated if something happens.
The Jettas might be boring in terms of design, but what I do consider first when buying a car is the engine. That's the number one on my check list. So far, I can say that VW is bringing decent engines to the market compared to Toyota or Mazda except for the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine which is basically a trash. With VW I would go with their TDI my eyes closed.
I cannot deal with super light steering wheels. I absolutely hate it. My parent's 2005 kia amanti's steering wheel was way too light. I felt unsafe driving it unsure how much control I have with that car. But I always liked Jettas. They seem fun to drive, and it feels faster than my honda accord. (My friends 2009 Jetta) but the car looks nice, but what were those round things on the ceiling of the car? It looks ugly. Is it lights?
I don't understand why most of the manufactures don't have a manual in their top trim line. Do as BMW has with the M3/M4, make it a no cost option. If you have the transmission developed all ready. And you obviously do if you are putting it in a lower spec trim. Why not making it a thing?
adding the tech package that includes blind spot monitoring, frontal collision warning and led headlights is another 4,800.00. making the jetta the most expensive compact car in the world....ridiculous.
I had a volkswagen jetta before and i had a bad experience with it. It was in the shop for awhile and i regretted buying it. So if your thinking of buying this car. Think again. The people i knew regretted buying a volkswagen too.
I wanted to exit the video when she said the BASE SE model (false) comes in at about 16k (false) but what really did it was the DSG talk in the 1.8TSI...false again, does not come with DSG.
Have a 2006 Jetta with 12 year rust warranty. **12-year, unlimited distance warranty against corrosion perforation There is rust perforation on the trim of my door but apparently Volkswagen gets to choose whether they cover it... This is happening on every door on my car... Not covered? Wow. Really disappointed in VW customer service at the moment.
I agree that one could find a more reliable car. I'm not so certain that there are more comfortable cars than VWs for long distance diving, and they are fun but they do have to progress and keep up some.
i am too tall to be in 98% of cars with a sunroof. Large SUV's included. so yea, not that i dont "live a little" but sunroofs are pretty much crap any ways. just get a convertible like you said
I think I still like it better that a Corolla though the Corolla would be better in the long run putting the base price Jetta against the Corolla but for the price of an SEL it's competing against a Camry. Against a Camry it poses looses value especially when considering that there will be a 2015 Camry this fall.
im sorry your talking rubbish, ive driven v'ws for the last 35 years, theyve sometimes gone a on quality purge and cheapened them to cut costs, i had a 2006 jetta (2.0tdi), the first jetta after a few years of thewm not producing one, and that ran me 6 years and 140K miles, it was well made and felt solid and i didnt have a problem with it, then i swapped to a mexican built 2012 model, boy, they dropped the quality through the floor, reminds me of a 2004-2006 seat. I dont think this car is going to last as well as the last one, the trim is cheap and horrible, the body is crap, the whole car is rattling after only 36k miles, for the first time in my life, im thinking of swapping to a different manufacturer. VW i think will lose a lot of customers because of their cost cutting and quality drops, theyve cut the wage overhead by going to mexico, looks like they want to save on build as well, good luck with that, im thinking maybe japanese or other german next time, which wont be long i reckon.
there is a lot of soft material yes it build with guality material go and see the Toyota corolla and the Honda civic and see if you can get that soft material on the corolla or civic Toyota are build cheap with hard material the Honda have hard material but build good
When we first upload a 4K video, youtube has to crunch and compress it. Until youtube is done processing the video it only displays in 360p. Give it some time and you'll get the 4K. Since we upload a video everyday, sometimes we upload them each morning and that's why this video is still processing.
The Fast Lane Car oh wow the whole range just shot up from 144 to 1080... when i watched there was only 360... guess i came just a few mins too early :C

Three way mash up jetta gli.... vs golf gti.....vs tigwaun 4 matic.... This car only makes sense if you buy the sel or tdi..... with a manual.... that dsg is less involving and has to be serviced every 50k by vw cause it's a sealed gear box.... $$$$$ The only difference is the New motor that goes 7k before needing oil change....... VW has been building boring looking cars for awhile now. This new Jetta is no different. Super light steering and bland interior. Your basic "a to b" vehicle. Got my Emme fix. :-)
I know, they used to FARFEGNEUG, but now whenever I'm behind a VeeDub I have to slow down and I drive a Durango with a 3.6. It's almost 5000 pounds. I even drive faster around the curves without trying.
The "problem" is that pretty much all cars are so good these days that consumers are spoiled for choice. It's good for consumers but sucks for manufacturers. They provide a great interior and folks just go "meh." I'm sure the Picard facepalm meme gets passed around headquarters quite regularly.
Scott Campbell I know right, it's so annoying hearing people bitch and whine that inexpensive cars are boring and stuff and expect the best for little money.
IRisHIwAsDrUnK Competition improves the breed. When people demand a better product manufacturers always seem to find a way to make it happen. However I prefer the styling of VW interiors to those of other brands. I think that they will age better than other cars and still look correct in 10 or 15 years when others will look like yesterday's fad.
Yay! The camera work didn't make me want to barf! Great seeing ya back reviewing cars Emme, awesome as always!
Wanted to learn about features of the 2015 VW Jetta Hybrid SEL three minutes into this video and its a multi volume(one sec quiet to get you to turn it up then BLAST loud) thing. Its mostly about her and horses.......
The dash is simple and beauty is in simplicity.

I used to like this car a lot. I myself have a 2006 Jetta. It's just that the competitors are starting to make much better looking cars.
Quick note, Not a DSG transmission in the S, SE, or SEL. The only trims the DSG is available in is the TDI and GLI. The other models are a 5 speed S-Tronic Transmission.

+Leonel Ventura Pretty sure you were in the last generation Jetta before the cosmetic upgrade. Also the base model does have cheaper plastics.
i heart vw Base it was my friend.... However it was a rental with 10,000 miles on the odo. Pretty sure it was current gen. Rental fleets only run cars for a couple of model years before they get sold off.
I'm a huge tech savvy but I love VW because how minimal and basic it is. It just feels clean and open.
I like how you guys hold off on the reccomendations until the cars are given a fair test.
Nice review Emmy
Well done, keep going
I was one of those who defended you when you got bashed for asking for donations. But TFL refusing to let us support you using establed payment system makes me think you are doing just fine. I am not creating another account on another specialized website, when there is PayPal. Peace :)
Don't have to wait until 2015 the GLI already puts out 210hp. Maybe she meant 258 torque like the GTI has?
Nice video! Particularly appreciate your mention of the turning radius. That's a maneuverability issue many reviewers don't discuss.
I'm exactly Emmy Hall's height. By the way the refreshed Jetta looks much better than the one released in 2011.
The Jetta isn't a bad car, but it does have some very stiff competition.
Great review Emmie. Lot's of fun. Usually a Volkswagen is too.
The interior looks nice
Great reviews! You're definitely one of my favorite female automotive journalist atm
Did you know that if you press and hold the *unlock button* on the key fob...that all the windows will roll down simultaneously, and will roll back up when you press and hold the *lock button* again?...
( FYI...the steering "feel" gets heavier and sharper at higher speeds. )
FYI my 2014 SE 1.8t 5speed dynoed at 189hp and 204tq on 87 octane. These cars are underrated from the factory.
I got APR stage 1 for 700, and I'm at 245 hp and 272 torque. I love it!
Emme - it's a regular 6 speed automatic in the 1.8 gas engine, not a DSG.
I personally really like the VW interior but I can see it not being for everyone
FINALLY A ENGINE TEMP GAUGE! Also all 1.8 TSI dose NOT come with a DSG, its a conventional Torque converter transmision!!!
it looks like an older Audi A4 from the rear... And thats a good thing.
Lol virginia does not take speed laws that seriously... I do 10 over all the time and have never gotten a ticket. I'm from the north btw.
SE Model is the best value, can be had under 20k. Top of the line usually isn't worth it as you can step into entry level luxury cars.
2160p quality?!!? dang, i thought only the offical youtube channel could do that
I don't understand why most of the manufactures don't have a manual in their top trim line. Do as BMW has with the M3/M4, make it a no cost option. If you have the transmission developed all ready. And you obviously do if you are putting it in a lower spec trim. Why not making it a thing?

This car looks so good! When does it release in Australia?
I wanted to exit the video when she said the BASE SE model (false) comes in at about 16k (false) but what really did it was the DSG talk in the 1.8TSI...false again, does not come with DSG.
Have a 2006 Jetta with 12 year rust warranty.
**12-year, unlimited distance warranty against corrosion perforation
There is rust perforation on the trim of my door but apparently Volkswagen gets to choose whether they cover it... This is happening on every door on my car... Not covered? Wow. Really disappointed in VW customer service at the moment.
Is it brown or dark beige ????
Only the Jetta GLI has the DSG. This uses just a conventional 6-speed automatic.
Song played: "Blue Skies" by Silent Partner from UA-cam Audio Library...
Its not a DSG, its a regular automatic, you only get the DSG in tdi and gli ;)
much better to save the donation part for the last so at least we can finish the video
Camera man sounded like the property brothers lol
the TSI doesn't have a DSG, it's a 6spd auto
I never recommend VW except for the TDI versions. Just so many other cars you can find that are better, more comfortable, and reliable.
I agree that one could find a more reliable car. I'm not so certain that there are more comfortable cars than VWs for long distance diving, and they are fun but they do have to progress and keep up some.
I wish that this had been the TDI.
i am too tall to be in 98% of cars with a sunroof. Large SUV's included. so yea, not that i dont "live a little" but sunroofs are pretty much crap any ways. just get a convertible like you said
A tip, it is pronounced Folksvagen. Great vid!
That's how americans pronounce it, this is not in Deutschland!!
Andres Salazar The point is....built for the FOLKS!!!! Thanks, VW!
Skippy K Or, for the VOLKS, if you prefer. :-)
haha
I thought it was pronounce Wolksvagen, and I think we can pronounce it as we please Mr.S.
VW has to connect those LED's
if you want heavy steering feel drive my 2007 mercedes c280 4matic
No DSG in 1.8
@ 2:31 Ak from FastLaneDaily??? FastLaneDaily
At 2:30....wow emme
That's a rip off for this car. U can get an ex-l Honda accord for the same price. That car is a size larger and higher resale.
no TDI or Hybrid specs?
Why manuel are better than automatic ?
No DSG with the 1.8T
This competes with Toyota Corolla for the title of "most basic car ever".
It is truly sad how the Jettas became this way. I miss how the older Jettas were a premium option over other compact sedans.
I think I still like it better that a Corolla though the Corolla would be better in the long run putting the base price Jetta against the Corolla but for the price of an SEL it's competing against a Camry. Against a Camry it poses looses value especially when considering that there will be a 2015 Camry this fall.
Uhm, turbo? I'd say it blows away a Corolla.
Andrew Chiu the thing doesn't handle well at all compared to other cars in the segment like the focus and mazda 3.
im sorry your talking rubbish, ive driven v'ws for the last 35 years, theyve sometimes gone a on quality purge and cheapened them to cut costs, i had a 2006 jetta (2.0tdi), the first jetta after a few years of thewm not producing one, and that ran me 6 years and 140K miles, it was well made and felt solid and i didnt have a problem with it, then i swapped to a mexican built 2012 model, boy, they dropped the quality through the floor, reminds me of a 2004-2006 seat. I don't call push to start a feature, more of an annoyance
I paid $18,880.00 for my TDI Jetta.
+ConwayTruckload how?
I paid cash and they gave me a better deal for paying cash
ConwayTruckload wow that's great
when we will see Emmys mazdaspeed miata review ?
Who cares? it has nothing to do with this channel. and neither should she.
she just got 2004 mazdaspeed miata with 10k miles on the car
i know. Her personal life has Zero to do with this channel. You don't see Nathan or Roman reviewing their own cars.
Fast lane car more like slow lane compact
there is a lot of soft material yes it build with guality material go and see the Toyota corolla and the Honda civic and see if you can get that soft material on the corolla or civic Toyota are build cheap with hard material the Honda have hard material but build good
Sounds like the base cheep car with a auto would be a better value as a biggish family car . To bland to pay 28k loaded up.
*comment on a video about a cheap ok car dissing because i want a lambo for 20k*
