Cars like the Volkswagen Caddy Life are often derided and dismissed as 'vans with windows' but they belong to a useful category of vehicle that provide plenty of practicality in a package no bigger than a family hatchback. The Caddy Life is the passenger-carrying version of the Volkswagen Caddy van, which makes it cheaper than some equivalent SUVs but also more utilitarian. In this review, Ginny considers whether the Caddy Life is worth considering compared to more mainstream choices.

I have one of these.
1) The engine is NOT noisy at all, but uncannily quiet. It's the 2.0TDi and it does 50mpg and will hit 60 in under 10s thanks to 140 odd BHP and a 6 speed DSG box which changes like lightning..
2) The build quality puts Citroens and Peugeots to shame. Incredibly well put together.
In short, it's brilliant.
When the back seats are out,can you get a bike in the back? Many thanks
I think the all round best vehicle in this class is the Tourneo Connect, but I do wish they would stop saying in these videos but it's van like qualities show up, you can't make a Rolls Royce our of a go cart and we except that when we buy these instead of the car based MPV like C Max.
Expensive. Worth every penny.
Amazing car 👌 wish I do have car like this one
I might misunderstand her but did she say that Caddys boot is smaller than the one of the Peugeot Rifter / the Citroen Berlingo? I'm asking because I doubt that this is true, at least concerning the 'standard' versions of the cars...
How much the vw caddy? By the way , where’s the spare tire?
Caddy Life... is life (na-na na-NA-na)
Looks like a hearse
Renault kangoo
Peugeot and Citroen are way better cars than this..
they are significantly smaller than the LWB version of the Caddy
ALLAHU AKBAR. greetings from turkey. ERDOGAAAAAN.
👎👎👎car
If your contemplating a Peugeot or citreon over this vw you must be mad!
And reliability, French engines just can't handle the inevitable high mileage/kms.
The utilitarian nature of these vehicles is not reflected in their price tag; some configurations price them beyond some SUV/MPVs. I'd happily take a practical, cheap, and cheerful van based family vehicle.
Honestly that review is lacking.
These vehicles are only bought for the space they provide and there was actually no proper review of the rear load area or 3rd row of seats with a demonstration of what its like back there . Watch a car wow review and learn how its done
Interior not as modern as the Citroen or Peugeot??? You must br having a laugh. The caddy is the mercedes under the hiroof estates. No one comes close to its interior look, ergonomics and quality of materials used. Believe me, I've seen most of them since I am considering buying one
I don’t get the premise that it’s either suv, estate or van. They still build MPVs; I bought a new Touran as the Tiguan wasn’t practical or spacious enough ands it’s great.
I really like that cup holder, it's a genius piece of design 👍
Drive it for 100k miles then compare it to the rifter and Berlingo...... Oh that's right both of those would have blown up before then!
I really only watch for Ginny, she's lovely! 😃
Steve Thorpe how sad.
ALLAHU AKBAR. greetings from turkey. ERDOGAAAN
that's creepy...imagine if you were ginny. would you be happy? no. treat people respectfully please
@@cosmon_ ALLAHU AKBAR. greetings from turkey. ERDOGAAAN
Steve Thorpe Me too.
I'm disappointed, I wish that she would've show us the 3rd row seats how big they are, instead just some pictures, awful
You need someone a little taller to practically set inside, this presentation was done only for the benefits of vw company , hiring people to get a presentation ready for consumers means better sales , but in this one it's not really showing many points like the back seat how flexible the seats can be , what's the reason for this type of a awkward shap , cost of running , warranty and much more , in Australian vw are over priced , and I know the market is not as great for vw comparing to Toyota , if any one thinks vw gives me problem I shouldn't buy it
ONE cupholder for all the back? That’ll cause issues with the kids.
Caddy's and Golfs are all a family needs really reliable
VW is overprized crap buy a Berlingo better car for much less money!
Idk if its like that on all caddys, but the rear suspension on mine is murderously bad
how about the safety?
moaning about the noise from the aircon at full blast.....what next, moaning about a alarm being loud.....
rear leg room, didn't seem any different to many large estates / mpv's so carn't knock it at that.
the lack of flat load floor with the seats is just a complete miss step here
poor from VW again.
You can actually remove all the seats and have a nice flat floor with 3.2 m3 volume for this caddy maxi it should be more
Would be nice if they did an actual review of rifter...
@@mohamedms2472 bit of a faff really.....should fold into the floor for neat storage in this day and age
@@Apex180 totally agree, this actual caddy is from 2004, it share the P36 platform from VW which is the same as golf mk 5
Hi, can we completly unmount all the seats on the maxi caddy ? I don't want to fold them but completly remove it for camping reason.
Also I want to know if this is easy or if you need to unscrew something...
All 2nd and 3rd row seats can be removed. No screws but they are a bit heavy.
Stop saying Esh-u-vee!!!! Hurts my ears every time.... It is like Carbyer specifically put her in any review where that term is mentioned... Stop it, just stop it.
The Peugeot Rifter and Ford Grand Tourneo Connect are much more modern, avoid the Caddy
Are they are reliable as a vs engine?
@@RT-ey4wy No. The Caddy wipes the floor with both of them.
VW, want to make money? Then why don't you sell these vehicles in the US and Canada.
PS: that issue about the rear seats, hey, Mercedes sells a minivan and you can't remove the rear seat! At least this one can.
Does the third raw suitable for adults?
Yes, adults easily fit in the back row, although those with hip or back problems might struggle to bend over as they step in.
It's practical and not as noisy as the review makes out. If you've got a family of six or seven it's the cheapest car I've found which can fit them in and their luggage for a week away.
It's true that the seats don't fold flat and you have to take them out but on the other hand it's still got decent boot space with all the seats in place. Most other 7 seaters I looked at either cost a lot more or had no space with all 7 seats in use.
She has being payed to downgrade the caddy!!
I have one of these 2014 one one the noseiest most uncomfortable van iv ever owned hate it so much all the comfort of a weelie bin
Great Video Review. I prefer the New Peugeot Rifter as I like the design and styling more
favorite family car 🌸🌸
Who buys a van for the dashboard plastic's? And you said the same in the Berlingo review
I like the Caddy 2.0 TDI.
What are these eschuwees you speak of?
Is this big enough to quit my job, travel the world and live in?
Joe No, get back to work Joe.
@@bid84 Will do Alan. Thanks
I have the same dream....😌
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
"Lets start in the back" - that´s what she said...

How do you the last bank out of this car?
Would be nice to see Ginny review the rifter
k geary yes it would be lol
looks like a hearse driving down the road
I wish this was available in the USA.
Still looks the same
Since 2004

Doni moi UN CADDY
A mule.
One word id use the describe this: LOL
I own this except a 2011 version. ITS A CRAP TERRIBLE CAR LOL
what if you get a popped tire ? what then ?
use the spare wheel.
The whole vehicle is FUGLY, lack of safety tech is always a major drawback and a reason alone I wouldn't buy it. Safety is my No.1 priority.
MaZEEZaM you can buy a cayenne Porsche for your safety...
Does it have a spare wheel?
yes
Max Wall
Comes standard with interior noise that make Kia jealous. Go for the larger Caravelle instead. Yes I’m the owner of one VW Caravelle VR6 (204 PS). Perfect transporter for up to 8, cargo room for plenty of long (200cm+) items.
The beautiful jinny
If you want to fit an isofix seat with a leg you can't with that underfloor storage!
love van
a SUV has much more comfort, features, is much calmer, better suspension and better design... the caddy is a working horse nothin more, and the nav is way too low...
Who drives cars that look like shoe boxes? Who wants a car without power or luxury or history? 🤔
An expedient person. Is that the right answer to your question Jan ? ;)
Just get a caddy maxi and forget the seats in the back. You can't sleep in a Berlingo either.
You keep talking about the Rifter but I can't see that you have reviewed that?
Will someone teach her on how to pronounce SUV properly please?
Over rated over priced for the VW fan boys your overpaying for the VW coool tax 😞😖
I prefer the Citroen Berlingo
Fair point
here we go again: Esh U Vee, Esh U Vee, but now she added some ugly shoes to the picture.
copyrat you have stopped taking your meds again I can tell, chill out and I’m sure your carer will notice soon and wheel you back into the ‘sunny room’ good day! 👍
Nice driver, ugly car.
This is nowhere near as good as the new Citroen/Peugeot offerings a poor choice for a review.
I disagree.
Here in Portugal the Caddy is offered also in Confortline and Highline specs. I have a 2019 Highline 2.0 TDI. With leather and Alcantara seat, heated seats, dual zone ac, Adaptive cruse control, bixenon light etc... I tried the new Rifter but even with the best spec available the interior lacks the feel of the Highline caddy.
Mine is very similar to this one

Carwow is so much better
Not any more. They streaching every review to 15min and it's become boring to watch.
@@zuti071 Omg she is so boring! Glad Matt keeps her away from Carwow!
Nice review!
Not nice car though
VW dieselgate
Great news, at 14k euro you can have Dacia Dokker Stepway, with: AC, electric windows, heated seats, cruise control, sat nav, rear view camera, colour selection...
My mate got one of these and have to say I'm very disappointed with driver position and amount of space for driver.☹
