Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions Connie!!! And for showing us what you keep in your bag 😊 I love "what's in my bag" type videos, and I hope we can continue to see them from different team members!
Your printing is so amazing; consistent, neat, and so very readable! Over the last year, and because I've admired your printing so much, I've been using printing exclusively myself (other than signature, of course). It took a bit of practice to achieve a reasonable state of consistency, but things are coming along. JetPens staff are so dog-gone interesting!! Love the website, love the channel, and of course, LOVE the merchandise!!
I've given this video an invisible _extra_ Like for Connie designing her own planner, complete with black borders. Wow! I used a Pilot Precise V5 rollerball and Kokuyo Mark+ 2 Way highlighters to make an at-a-glance calendar on a single piece of A5 Rhodia dot grid paper, but with Connie's project she must be meeting any mindfulness meditation goals she might have. As for broad fountain pen nibs, I'm getting used to Platinum Preppy Japanese medium nib but would like to try a broad nib of some fountain pen down the road.
Connie has my hear and soul. Her sense of humor and body language that goes so well with it gets me every time. I cannot get over how she makes buying stationary such a happy experience.
Ambidextrous fountain pen user here. When I write lefty, I use a side writing style. I’ve personally found that the Diamine inks work well, though I do use finer nibs most of the time.
Love the tips Connie, I'm also a leftie, I'm definitely going to try a broader nib and the excellent Hobonichi plain notebook. I absolutely love the Jet Pens videos, best telly ever.
As a leftie who is curious about fountain pens, I really appreciate your information about your choice of nibs. I also feel like my handwriting looks neater with a larger pen point.
The more I watch JetPens videos raving about fountain pens the more I want to try them but I'm so scared to! I love my Varsity, but I'm afraid I'll make such a mess/waste money trying to figure out a fancier fountain pen (what ink I like, what nib size, how to load). I need someone to walk me through this lol. But thank you for always sharing your recommendations with us - it's very helpful for all of us that are indecisive or worriers!
I'd suggest reading the Jetpens guide on Platinum Preppy. It's an inexpensive, all plastic (steel nib) fountain pen that uses cartridges. Jetpens sells them for something like $6 US each. The pens come in several colors. The cartridges are company-specific, but very easy to find and are also inexpensive. I started out with a Fine nib, because I like a thinner line, if you know you like broader lines like Connie, you can start with a Medium. Preppys also come in Extra-Fine and Broad, but it might be easier to start with a more mid-range nib and size up or down from there.
I went straight in with a Pelikan, used way too much pressure, and sprung the nib! Also, I’ve now broken 2 twsbis 😢i drop my pens often and have been known to have a grip of steel! 😂 but you learn how to take care of them and disassemble and write softly with them . Don’t be scared! A lot of fountain pen parts are replaceable and pens like the Kakuno or all sport aren’t super expensive. Keep trying!
Lissa, you will love them. I've been using them on and off since third grade, but now that I have arthritis in my hands, I use them more. Start with a Kakuno or Platinum Preppy, both cheap, but good pens. I love them both, but I also love my Lamy Safaris and Kaweco Perkeos because they have good flow. My husband likes $600 pens. Yes, they write beautifully, but I'm really happy with my cheap ones!
Ink samples are sn inexpensive way to try 1-2 fills worth of a lot of different inks! I get mines from Goulet pens because they have surprise me sets and sets based on color. I personally got a TWSBI eco and after watching one video on how to clean and fill was able to go no issues, there are other super beginner friendly pens too! Jet pens has videos on them as well as Goulet pens. Both are great resources for beginners and long time users.
This was so fun to watch! Thank you so much!! I don't have the discipline to make a DIY planner but it was cool to see it in action, maybe one day when I get more used to using planners (a goal of mine for next year) I'll try making one myself ^^
Ain’t no way I saw the bag of my dreams in the first 30 seconds only to get my dreams severely crushed sksjsjs it’s literally almost an exact replica of a bag I used to have 😭 Connie, better watch out for me!!!
Ole Jumbo Joe took me by surprise, I was wondering who on earth is that! Love the spreads, love the Parker 51 even better! Didn't know you have a taste of Vintage pens, Connie! Great insight on your EDC!
Do you guys have any suggestions for what pen cases i can use to store my glass pens? Its bulky to have them in their original packaging. It takes up a lot of space on my desk and i just really want to keep them like i do with my regular pens and fountain pens. Pls help! 🙏🏼🥺
Hi there! Generally we don't recommend storing glass pens in pen cases as they're very likely to break if not stored or handled properly, or if they're kept in a normal pen case alongside rigid pens. They are best kept in their original packaging or placed on a pen tray/pen holder for a desk.
Lovely video 🙂 I have a question about inks... Do they have an "expiration date"? Can I use a 20 years old ink for example? PS: super cute tiger mug 🐯 ❣
Hi there! While ink does not have an expiration date, it will eventually become unusable. Most inks by reputable brands will last decades if stored and used correctly. The main reason for expiry is contamination. If your ink is moldy, slimy, or has a bad smell, it's gone bad.
Thanks for all the likes in Connie's previous videos! Hope you enjoyed watching. Give us a like to see more Staff Members' everyday carry!
"There's a Bear. On the back... there's another, SMALLER bear." We love you Connie.
The hockey player card with K-pop vibes was awesome. It is cute 100%

That Kokuyo Field Sketch Book is going on my wishlist. Looks like a perfect brain dump journal for when my mind won't stop racing.
That hockey card was both hilarious and adorable. It's inspired me to get fangirly about other non-traditional things I love too!
