- Well, actual shelves for a proper shelf layout. Keep it simple and I might actually be able to get something done, Shelves are up with a temporary backdrop to get the design juices flowing.

If you or someone you know has a great model railroad to share, by all means please let us know. Not everyone has proficient internet skills as many of us have. Share the hobby!
Love that backdrop!!!! That caught my eye right away.
Good German Stihl Saws! Since 1926 when Andreas Stihl began his work in Stuttgart. The central is still near Stuttgart in Waiblingen. Thats some 60 or 70 kilometers from here. Good to see You´re fine, greetings from the deep south of Germany, greetings from Ulm to Strasburgh.
Pretty darn cool
the great idea that building for your new layout wishes the best further plans
thank you for sharing

Nice SHELF layout. Great backdrop, good lighting.
looks good thus far
Nice self Layout♐️👍
You are a busy guy!!!! Looks good!!
That is going to be a great little space to run some trains! Looking forward to seeing your progress.🇨🇦
Great way to build a shelf layout,a little at a time with different scenic effects along the way. I can't wait to see the finished layout. And once again,I'm sure that it will be amazing!
Great to see a New York Central layout. Engine sounds good. Can't wait to see more videos.
I love the alphabet lines and really love the NYC as well as my territory fallen flags WM, B&O, C&O and Chessie. I am trying to streamline the filming and editing so that I can do more.
Looks fantastic layout well done cheers from Bruce.blenheim south island new Zealand
I like the new shelf layout and am excited to see it progress.
That looks great. Your support brackets look great. I've got a large shelf layout, its mostly 2' wide using 2'x4' birch plywood but in a few places about 1' wide using pine boards. I initially used large metal shelf brackets from Lowes, but ended up switching to U shaped brackets made from 2x4s that I screwed together and bolted to the studs in the wall. Its held up for over a decade without any issues so far. The best thing about a shelf layout is that you can store things under it, I use these 10 drawer plastic storage carts that you can get off amazon, great for OO/HO stock.
I've started and restarted in the back of the shop several times with different scales and themes - all have stopped due to work and space, but I think this will help being supported up high as opposed to the carts I took from the old display layout and like you mention (space under the layout).
Nice looking clean slate you’ve got there for an O scale switching layout. Good choice on going a section at a time. That’s how I’m building, too, and I like having some finished scenes earlier in the process. Plus it provides for quicker switches between activities, keeping things fresh. Looking forward to more this winter!
love the shelf concept ! best wishes from Wales 😍😍
I like where you are going with this, as switching layouts are my favorite type of layout. And the size is not overwhelming, either. I look forward to seeing you develop it. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Honestly, with time being my limiting factor, ai think this will work out well. If I treat each section as a diorama, I just might get somewhere scenery wise.
Cool! You worked on the CSX. I worked on the UP in Arkansas. I survived the head on train crash in Hoxie, AR in 2014. I got 10 years on the railroad before I was injured. Retired 25 years sooner than I thought I would. My engineer saved my life. He pulled me out of our locomotive.
Looks great. You could always put a Loop on both Ends for a Continuous Running Layout.
Don't say that too loud, my wife might hear!
@@tracksidescenery LOL 😆. Know what you mean there.
This is amazing. Such a wonderful way to display the love of the hobby while staying in a small space! I’m definitely taking this idea
That’s how I started. 12 foot by 17 inch in the hallway Then added the second deck underneath. Than built the M shaped section in the layout room. It’s currently 60% completed, just need to do the doorway drop in sections, the third level which will be the entire hallway length and layout room, the modular helix to connect the three, and both my 8 foot stagings on both ends of the yard. This is my dream layout. Looking forward to your progress and update videos you’ve gained a sub!
Thanks for subscribing! If you go back over the years you will see many different layouts and many of them with a portable theme. Right now, I just need to get to my favorite part which is the scenery.
@@tracksidescenery nice! I’m on my sixth and hopefully last. I highly enjoy scenery when I have all of what I need to make the scene the way I want it.
It's gonna look awesome when it's finished. The build journey is what I'm looking forward to, you have so many great tips and techniques. I can't wait.
Looks great! I used your backdrops on my shelf layout and they look fantastic. I started the backdrop on the end-wall (24") and then wrapped them around. Do you plan on adding backdrops on the ends? Look forward to updates! - Paul
3rd times a charm!
Boy, I was expecting a brace of C&O F units or first gen Geeps. Looks good! I have subbed .
I keep my eyes open for C&O, B&O, WM etc equipment. It always has been a little tough for me over the years in 2 rail O finding the stuff I like.
@@tracksidescenery I'll bet. It's like looking for Southern Railway locos here in the Pacific Northwest!
That backdrop looks 3D on video!
Second lol. Nice layout
What happened to the "O" scale and the cool car dumper?
The dumper and all the O Scale structures are sitting on a shelf here at the shop while I decide which scale I am going to do next with the home layout.
Good day sir,
I have a couple questions regarding a shelf layout if you are willing to chat.
Regards,
Ken
I'm thinking the one setting to the side is a ms 271, is the one in the vise a 500i?
The 20" is the MS261 and the other is the 170. We use them and abuse them on our properties. If you check out our personal channel, you can see how much we've used the in just the last couple of months.
Dude, between you and Dave Vaughn (who says inside every N Scaler is an O Scaler screaming to get out) you're tempting me back into O Scale and seeing this shelfie isn't helping...
I'm purposely avoiding the O Scale Swap Meet in Strasburg tomorrow to avoid further temptation.
How wide is the left end wall from the back wall to the hallway?
I know what you're thinking! (I think). That far left wall will technically be clear after I get that stuff out of there, however a long bridge would have to be 10 or 12 feet and block her workout room. If I had my way, I'd to a complete around the walls.
I did 1 1/2 " foam and it sounds like my trains are running on a drum
Plywood and homosote is the way to go NO Excessive noise
Usually I have been using Gatorboard (see previous videos). Really, at 15 scale mph it's not a factor.
What is the height of the shelf?
Track level is 52.5" off the floor.
FIRST!
Not wild about the perfectly straight mainline……very few in real life. A few sweeping curves may look better..imo.
Agreed and I am considering a bump out or two to break it up. As long as it keeps the real estate to a minimum.
@@tracksidescenery should not take any more…..Just long sweeping arcs in the same space, maybe create basic scenic features as reasons, a rock outcrop, a gully, but you can do all that in the same space. I guarantee your span will a) look even longer and b) trains will look better slinking along.
