The 2025 992.2 series 911 is just a few months away from an official reveal, and the camouflage has finally come off of the prototypes, giving us our first clear look at the updated exterior of the latest 911 Carrera, S and cabriolet trims. And for the most part, I think Porsche fans are gonna be happy. So lets take a deep dive look at the 2025 911.
The exterior updates to the .2 911 can be described in a very simple way, everything that's metal stays the same, and everything that isn't metal has been redesigned.
Now I know the main question on everyone's mind is: what is going on here and here?
This is a 911 carrera that has been fitted with the sport design package and the aerokit, so if you're one of the many people who does not like the way this front looks, you can breathe a sigh of relief, because the standard 911 will not look like this.
Just like the sport design and aerokit packages found on the .1 car, they feature active aero shutters upfront, but now those shutters are vertical instead of horizontal. The packages also feature an extended front splitter, extended side skirts, a different exhaust system, a different intake on the decklid and an elevated spoiler. And it looks like it many of these items have been carried over from the .1 car
But I do have to say that this front end looks un-finished, and I can't believe this is the final product.
    **front**
Up front on the non- sport design cars, the redesigned fascia is a big improvement over the previous car, as the 992.1 carrera had one of the most visually awkward fronts of any 911.
The layout of the 3 large openings is definitely a step in the right direction, and the bulges on either side of the outer radiator intakes give the car a much more aggressive and muscular appearance, without taking away from the overall lines of the car. In black it doesn't show that much, but when these cars start appearing in other colors, those little details are going to make a big difference in the cars overall appearance.
The new splitter features a complete wraparound design that is more reminiscent of the 992 GT3, While the .1 features a blended splitter design that's more reminiscent of the 997.
The new headlamp lenses have a much cleaner and more simple design, and the lights themselves feature a redesigned five-dot matrix system, with the daytime running bulbs in each assembly now functioning as turn signals.
But I can't help but to think the headlamp redesign is a little too simple. The additional details in the .1 headlamps looked good and were more reminiscent of the air-cooled 911s, but this is not to say that the updated design looks bad.
Now lets take a look at the most improved area of the car's exterior, which is the back.
The updated fascia is a huge improvement. The design of the 992.1 strayed too far from the typical 911 styling, while the .2 adopts several visual cues from the 992 GT3, which is the one of the best looking water-cooled cars to date.
The rear lightbar assembly has also been redesigned, with the lower horizontal light strips stretching deeper towards the center, and flanking the repositioned porsche lettering, which is covered by vinyl in these images. The new porsche lettering is rumored to light up when the headlamps are turned on. The farther reaching lower light strips are a small change, but they make a big difference, as they balance the car's proportions and design details much better.
The rear decklid design might be one element that looked better on the previous car. For the .1 cars, porsche hid an easter egg detail in the decklid by putting nine slats on either side of the center brake light, and making the center brake light look like an 11, creating a visual way to say 911. So there was an element of thought that went in there, and it looked really good too.
The decklid on the .2 car now features six slats on either side of the brake light, and the new design reminds me of a stopwatch
Other updates include smaller rear reflectors, redesigned moulding around the tailpipes, indentations inspired by the GT3, and the vents for the intercoolers have been relocated away from the fascia, which may account for the biggest visual improvement here.

I think you have the standard and sport design bumpers reversed. The base bumper has been getting the active aero vents since turbocharging the full line, while the sport design removes the flaps. I disagree with the update, I think the design changes are too busy and just add more complexity to a cleaner .1 design. And no one wants an all digital gauge cluster.

❤😂😢😮😅😅😅😊😊😊 😊 forget the electric shit. It cost too much money and when the batteries go out, it’s too damn expensive. They’re going too fast with all this bullshit so let’s go with the gas cars. We have enough gas for 30 to 40 years so wake up, everybody don’t go electric.

On first balance I like the look of the new rear bumper, GT-inspired with a dimple crease seen in profile and from behind. Gives it another dimension that the .1 base doesn't have, and also provides more consistency with the license plate location between Sport Design and non-SD options. However, on second look (your editing helps with this BTW), the new rear looks busy in comparison to the .1 The spy image suggests a 5-layer surface consisting of: the light bar, bumper line, new mid-fascia (+ lower reflector shroud - that IMHO looks glued-on), and finally the tailpipe valence. It seems broken-up to me, less horizontal which is the design mantra of the 992 ... I hope it isn't the final version, maybe it will be bait for GT-3 wanna bees electing a SD package. Perhaps I'll warm to the final version, but for now there are too many ideas. The standard .1 rear seems more coherent. Other's have mentioned this before, but .2 styling (from many manufacturers) is usually a result of fussy versions of the original .1 version.
Not everyone loves the style of the 992. It is an era of throw-back design attitudes where Porsche quotes 'details' from 911s of the 1980s (squared edge hood + center vent crease, horizontal grille, 959 rear bumper side vents, continuous taillight, and hips from the turbo cars). I think its is worth talking about, the evolution of the classic 911 shape. Thanks for speculating with us (it's worth ruminating about ... avoid lazy thinking). :-)

I agree with a previous comment that the front ends are reversed. The version with the aero shutters is definitely the standard version, just like how the current standard version also has aero shutters. Likewise, the sport design version has no aero shutters for the 992.1, so likely that will continue for the 992.2. Just because the car also featured the aero kit rear spoiler, doesn’t mean the front has to be the sport design version. Otherwise very good content.
