I am 53 years old and I have been recycling since it was 15. I am crying throughout this video because the world at large is still trashing our environment with our waste. However, I now have the exquisite joy to be able to do something helpful to clean and care for the planet along with my daughter, and our customers - through this man’s radical and award winning Eco business concepts. And I can tell you that these people have it sussed on all levels and never stop making their business more solution oriented. They are game changers and activists in real time. Unlike most businesses, their expansion means less future waste, less future toxins, less future energy pollution and less future landfill - their expansion means more environment regeneration now, more recycling and repurposing now, more creative clothing now and more education to the ones who will listen, now. We are so glad to be involved in your story, Sir. We came for the organically farmed cotton we got so much more - You guys inspire us everyday to do better. Amazing talk - well done, for again bringing your life passion to the table, however vulnerable you feel. 🙌🏻
Mart, I LOVE how your mind works! Tell your Mum, she did a great job of teaching you how to think. I swear 90% of the world's problems are caused by people who simply don't think. They complain, the play the part, they follow the rules but they never question why and they rarely seek to be the change they're looking for. You are truly inspiring xx
Thank you for an excellent talk highlighting the insanity of the world we live in. I have never been able to comprehend how people appear to care so little about this beautiful planet. Proud to be a Rapanui customer.
That's great, but even more let's create an entire community economy that is circular, sustainable yet also producing an abundance for all, like we can technically do if we work together? Let's use the systems that make this possible. Check out One Small Town initiative and see how it could work for your community!
Awesome talk Mart! Can't wait to share this with my team at work, to help us all look at 'waste' and the 'rules' from a totally different perspective. Thanks Teemill. 👌🏻
Loved this talk. It's great what you've done in innovating such a sensible and earth friendly way of creating and recycling clothing! I hope more and more companies will keep adopting your business model!
V impressive, have just bought some Rapanui clothes so will be contributing to the circular economy. we also did this when we were younger by remaking clothes.
I like your story and I've signed up to your site. I'm now designing my shop and have designed a couple of products. Power to your elbow and your ethics.
Love this! Totally agree, 40% wastage on the cutting room floor is crazy. Bright minds and creative problem solving is the way forward, circular fashion with quality natural materials. We need to change the way the world and business works and take control of our decisions and outcomes.
there used to be a time when clothing was made based on customer orders, they were called Atelier's. Once mass production was introduced into society we were no longer customers, we became CONSUMERS. Now, several decades later, the realization that this way of selling was actually good.
Love your talk. Very enlightening, inspiring and educational. I am from South East Asia and works in the real estate industry particularly in design and construction. From my part of the world we are not up to speed on circular economy models like what you have shared. I am very interested how I can be part of your endeavor from this part of the world and contribute to the its cause. Thank you.
Interesting talk, and you are right the linear process from consumer to trash, is farcical. Manufacturers need raw materials, it's usually their biggest cost as a percentage. Enabling a system that send them a raw material that would have been trash, and turning it into a usable raw material to start the process again is the only sensible solution.
Such an awesome, flowing and enthralling ted talk! Excellent public speaking skills and engaged me for the whole time on a topic which some may feel is ‘boring’. Informative and progressive!
My question would be as you said: how main stream big market players would feel as their main goal is profits rather than the environment. Would be interesting to see how you process the clothes which are sent back to you eg disinfecting them/ the state some may be in etc.
As someone who is somewhat addicted to buying band T-shirts, I wish all bands would source their products from ethical and environmentally conscious companies like Teemill. Is there any way to spot a Teemill shirt before buying online or at a gig?
We agree, but we're biased ;) The best way to spot a Teemill tee is by looking for the little green size tag at the collar, or the Remill logo if the product is made from our recycled organic cotton. You can also look inside the t-shirt to see if you can spot our Remill QR code label which can be scanned to send a product back to be remade. If you'd love to see more of the bands you love sharing sustainable merch, don't be afraid to let them know on their socials!
@@Teemillstore thanks! I will. I know a lot of bands make most of their income from merchandise sales, so I can understand the urge to buy cheap to maximise profits. Personally, I’d prefer to pay a bit more (they’re already charging £20 for them) to reduce the impact on the environment. I suppose it could be the record label that makes those decisions.
Before speaking of circular economy we must talk of Weal and Power distribution among the citizens. Cooperation and drive for Profit are incompatible concepts.
In Sweden we´ve had a recycling program for bottles and cans for ages! Our program let the consumers to return used materials everywhere, not just in the store you bought it in. It´s really, really wrong for me to go abroad and make just that: drink the soda and throw away the bottle in a waste bin. If we can - WHY can´t you in other countries? In Sweden all the producers are responsible for and contribute to the system and products without the possibility of recycling are not allowed in stores. And consumers are getting payed for their cans and bottles. Take a look at our system and benchmark it! Or stop drinking sodas 🙂

If the economy is a game where do the humans go when they are out of the game?
Absolutely fantastic. Brilliantly executed.
Flippin’ brilliant. Really well put together Mart. Inspiring.
Great talk, love your ethos and your products.
it is a disgusting way to camouflage the pursuit of profit as doing good.
