Chris Coleman in quite a few of his clinics references his studies using Gary Chesters New Breed 1 and 2 books. Both of which are fantastic for reading, independent and inter-dependent limb development, time-displacement, reading and playing in 2/4, 4/4, 6/8, 12/8, 5/8, 7/8 time signatures, and most importantly feeling that against a metronome. Singing on the beat, off the beat, etc...while playing. Joe Morello in his Master Studies book talks about Metric Modulation, which is used by top players such as Tommy Igoe, Vinnie Colaiuta, Chris Coleman. And Mike Johnston's lessons incorporate some of these advance techniques as well.
They're not out of tempo brother. Establish the tempo at the beginning of this clip and keep that foot tapping,, you will see they never move from the tempo. Just displacement, accenting different parts of bar, playing in 3/5 etc hahaha just keep tapping!!! In 4!!!
I just had so much fun watching that
Play with that time boy.....lol
No one can light a match to Chris... maybe Royster. But that's about it.
Royster can't light shit to Chris, c'mon man

So what's the secret to counting the time with all these out-of-tempo sections?
Establish your inner metronome.
