I always carry a duck stick. A 6’ by 1” diameter tree. I use it for balance and it has saved me from falling many times. I also always use a strap and carry my gun over my shoulder when wading. May sound sissy but I stay dry 99.9% of the time.
That hunt was a success before you fired the first shot that was a beautiful morning birds dropping in and you got your limit and mallards so nice in the decoys sorry you got a little wet it happens to all of us once in a while Great video
I’ve been there man!! The fact that I’ve done it numerous times makes it that much more funny! Always looks back at those days and laugh at myself! But stacking the ducks makes the cold soaked clothes even better!!!
Nice job! I dunked myself like that in an icy cold Colorado river one time. It was a little scary because of the temp and the current... I'm still apprehensive crossing rivers because of that day.
Nice video and hunt, my 11/24 was the same, new spot, ducks dropping in before 4am till i left at 2 pm., 4 greenheads, gadwal, lost a drake widgeon to an eagle and i fell in and filled my waders. Best hunt of my season so far , here in south east michigan.
Pretty jealous! Where we hunt in Wisconsin, there's rarely that many ducks around to be that choosy. I'm glad you got your greenhead limit after being so patient!
A few friendly tips, don't ever wear cotton under your waders especially jeans, cotton kills. Wear fleece of some type. Make sure you wear a wading belt which will help reduce the amount of water your waders will take in if you fall and if you can wear your hunting jacket on the outside of your waders which will also help a little if you fall. Thanks for the video.
Killer video. Stay safe on solo runs. Hold the end of ur whistle like u do ur regular mallard call and u can modulate the drake tone. Try to mimic the gadwall two note late season the mallards eat it up.
I'm not going to lie I laughed far more than I should have but was impressed with your form on the dive. I am averaging at least twice a season backwards forwards I can do it all. Just got back from Niobrara camping/hunting for 4 days of frustration. They were dropping the river so fast that you couldn't keep the decoys floating. Parked the boat in a foot of water came back 3 hours later it was high and dry, if it wasn't for a couple fellas from SE Minnesota I'd probably still be there. Congrats on a great hunt.
Great shooting. Sorry about the one at the end but that does happen. I hate it when people don't take any time to look for them. You are a true outdoorsman.
Another entertaining hunt Matt. I really like those locations. I admit that I am well versed in figuring out ways to fill my boots with water. Definitely not fun but it does happen... excellent shooting too... As I am new to your channel, I may have missed but would like to learn more about your calling techniques. . Another great job.. Blessings
Great hunt and love the video. My hunting situation is much different than yours but I now hunt in a Kokatat dry suit. I actually bit it this week (just like yours) full frontal entry! (just not on video) but I am in a drysuit so I did not get wet! :). It actually makes hunting in kayaks so much safer as well as dryer,
May I ask how deep you sink in the mud on those ponds? at times I get a bit scared because the mud seems like is ready to swallow me and I often get discourage from places like that.
It really depends on the pond. Some you barely sink into, others can be knee deep sediment in places. I advise scouting spots in the daytime to know where you can walk.
Been there and took a dip a many times before I learned a lesson. Looked like you was in a hurry to me. Take some advice from a old duck hunter. Slow down and always have a walking stick with the gun strapped on your shoulder.
Never seen such a big deal made about getting wet 😂 when I was first starting to shoot at 6 years old if you fell in you stayed regardless ! Lol grandpa gave no slack 20 degrees or not.
I will make a shameless plug for synthetic gun stocks. Here are a few benefits, easy to clean, wipe off mud, they won’t swell due to water absorption. Don’t get me wrong I have a bunch of wood stocked guns, but for waterfowl I switched to synthetic. Unfortunately for me due to a severely spinal injury, I can’t walk far enough to hunt anymore so this is as close as I can get to the real thing at least I had a good long hunting career
Need a dog bro. I hunted year's with out. I got a dog after going over my waders more than once. And that spill could end your life. And never hunt over ice no matter how clear or thick.
Listening to live ducks like that is truly the best way to learn to call
No better teachers out there
Matt we appreciate your time and effort that it takes for you to share your passion for the outdoors. Love all your videos.
Thanks buddy!
You hunt in some of the prettiest places Matt. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
Appreciate it!
it is nice to see that I am not the only one that falls in from time to time.
It happens

Take it from an old duck hunter! Best advice I’ve seen yet!
Learned that lesson the hard way.
I hunt in flooded timber and I always use a wading staff.
That's probably one of the slickest thumbnails I've seen lately!
Thanks!

Thanks Dan! They sure put on a show that day.
😲Very good shot...👍
Thanks!
@@HighPrairieSportsmen 🤗 happy 👍
Another AWESOME hunt for sure! Like you said, it made falling in worth it for sure!!! Congrats and God Bless!!!!👍🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Myron!
The dreaded over the waders trip..... I've been there a few times myself and know the pain. At least the temps were decent for you. Great hunt
Thanks Scott!
That is where a dog is worth there weight in gold great hunt !
No kidding. Thanks!
Good to see somebody has birds!!! Been tough sledding here in NE TX!
We've got to work for them. They are stale
Awesome video and amazing pothole you had there! Nothing like a little cold water to wake you up!
Thanks! Cold water > caffeine
I’ve been there man!! The fact that I’ve done it numerous times makes it that much more funny! Always looks back at those days and laugh at myself! But stacking the ducks makes the cold soaked clothes even better!!!
Haha makes the story even better.
Cool to watch those things work. Love the spread.
Thanks!
First time in 3 or 4 years? Hell I get wet 3-4 times a year! Good hunt Matt!
Haha yep. Thanks buddy!
At least 1 out of 4 trips for me
That's funny, we've all been there. Way to stick it out and get that limit, makes it a little easier when the ducks are flying like that though.
Birds in thick like that definitely made it easier to bear
Awesome shoot, Matt! I'm excited for your frozen river hunts!
Thanks! Me too. It can hurry up and freeze anytime now haha
Well, great shows, found your niche. Hope you keep at it.
Thanks!
Nice job! I dunked myself like that in an icy cold Colorado river one time. It was a little scary because of the temp and the current... I'm still apprehensive crossing rivers because of that day.
Oh dang! I hate crossing icy rivers for that reason.
Boy a guy could learn a lot about calling just listening to them
No kidding!
What an amazing first hour, I don't kno how you decide to break in on that show and start shooting ducks. Great little spot.
It was tough to pick up the gun haha
5 green jewels and 1 soaked waders, best day to be in the office, Matt.
You've got that right!

That's crazy! Never had an eagle do that yet
Awesome footage Matt! Great hunt. Polar bear club is in full swing 😂
Thanks buddy! An involuntary participant haha

That was awesome!! What an amazing hunt! And yes we’ve all been there at one time or another, sometimes you just get soaked
Thanks!

Thanks! Just got lucky with conditions. It's not always like this out here.
What an amazing hunt, video and some awesome shooting from you, keep it up
Thanks!
Fine bunch of ducks - great hunt ! I know how demoralizing that dunk is - but hey - you’ll never get that at the house 😊‼️
Thanks! Very true. Better than caffeine as a wake up too

Very graceful haha. That stinks. Never been hunting up that way but it sure is pretty country.

Thanks! Yeah always hate losing birds.
When ya hit the like button before even watching the dang video🤟🇺🇸
Heck yeah!
Matt I have never had Waders before but it seems to me the manufactures would make them with a plug it each Boot for drainage . Enjoyed it
Thanks Chuck! I've never had any like that before
Awesome Mallards 🦆🦆
Thanks!
Good hunt man!!
Thanks!
Well worth getting wet for heck of a day and sure you will be going back. Congrats
Definitely! Thanks Bob

Better u fell in at the end of hunt then beginning. That's always the worst. Lol! 😂 😂

Possible hypothermia? But, 4 green heads. I’m with you! Good day with wet clothes is a good problem to have.

Great hunt...good shooting....didn't know you were going to turn into a diving duck there...didn't seem like ya dabbled much in it 😁

Thanks Kraig! For calling, my mindset is less is more. People overemphasize calling in my opinion. Knowing when to call is the key.
@@HighPrairieSportsmen that's most often my philosophy
Awesome video man! just wondering - how is there not more people there? In MN if there was a spot that good there would be guys 50 yards from you!😂
Thanks! There usually are lots of people. This was on a weekday and it's very rarely like this. Just hit the conditions right.
Great hunt! Really enjoyed watching the birds work. How many birds is that for you this year? Have you broke a hundred yet?
Thanks! I'm up to 119 ducks now.
Great spot and beautiful hunt. Just a question, why didn't you shoot the first wigeons? I really like your videos and your hunting approach.
Thanks! Couldn't pick out drakes early.
Great hunt!! STOP short stoppin all the birds Matt!!! We want to shoot birds too!! LOL! Congrats man, ur having an AWESOME season like normal!👊👊👊👍👍👍
Thanks! I can't help it haha

Mat I fall in like every year but I try to do it in the early Teal season .It is a lot wormer .
Now that's just good advice there
It happens to the Best of us
We were sea duck hunting and when we were coming back we took a wave over the front, soaked us all
That would stink. Just part of it though.
Очень красиво.🖐👌👌👌👍👍👍
Thanks!
Get you a dog and stay dry!
I'd have one if I could
Stay dry? Always got more water from a wet dog shaking off then if I'd made my own retrieve. God I miss that dog
