I hope Panasonic release a 40mm f2 or f2.8 pancake, similar to their very popular 20mm f1.7 pancake on MFT. If this camera released with a 28mm f2.8 and a 40mm f2 pancake, it would have been a lot more compelling for photography.
Thank you very much for taking the time to make such a detailed comparison, highly appreciated. Despite of the overwhelming amount of negative comments that I read about the S9, Panasonic is aiming for a very defined market and combine as much as they can include in such a small volume. I agree with you; both cameras are good and it's all about defining everyone needs.
Assuming this Camera delivers on what it is intended to for it's Target Market, it might be the most Underrated Camera of the year. Far too many folks are looking at it in the context of what they want in a Camera as opposed to what the Target Market might want or need. That is the Huge issue with most of those complaining. Which is weird since they need not apply.
How do you know you'll be able to get a S9 next month??? Right now no one has a S9 in their hands, so it will be interesting how this camera ships/sells... did you place a pre-order?
All modern cameras take excellent pictures and pretty good video. I think it comes down to personal preference and use case. Most, will never use half the features. But, the experience of shooting, workflow and desire to craft images will always add value to a camera.
I recently went from Sony A7II to Fujifilm because of film simulations. If i waited for a few more months I probably would have gone with the S9 and its LUTs!
Is electronic shutter a deal breaker? For travel photography. Does banding occur most of the time? Or is it a rare instance? Really in love with the form factor needs more compact lenses tho. As a hobbist this ticks all the boxes.
Excellent comparison, clearly shows the differences between the 2, and why you might buy one over the other. Also why the missing features such as EVF, mechanical shutter and time limit might not be a big deal for some users. There is a lot of comparison between the two because of the similarity of form factor and size, but both are very different in concept.
I’ve always liked your videos, you’ve just gone up even further in in rating, professional and fair, no biased or covert narrative, not that I can tell anyway. Thanks, for another excellent review and comparison which shows good points on both across thoroughly. Once the lens choice for the S9 is improved, I mean smaller primes, it’ll fly off the shelves if it isn’t already I recon.
No, I actually was waiting for it, and when it came out I got the S5ii. The price is the issue with the S9, too many cut corners and the S5ii literally costs the same on offer if you get it with a lens. The S9 should be priced at 1,000 dollars if you compare it to the 1,450 S5ii.
Hi. Love your reviews and insights. Subscribed to your channel. I have a question for you. I’m intrigued by the S9 and have placed a preorder. My use case is as a second camera for times when I want to go light but still have the full frame benefits. I’m a Zf user with only two lenses. I like the Zf but don’t want to fund 2 different brands. So I’m thinking about the S5ii to replace my Zf and pair with the S9. What do you feel I would lose moving from the Zf to the S5ii? Thank you in advance. And thanks for the great videos.
Thank you! You would loose the vintage feel / experience of the Z f. Other than that, the S5 II is a more capable camera. The S5 II and S9 is a great combination, I can highly recommend it.
It's absolutely worth noting that the Lumix supports loading official Fuji LUTs. They look incredible, so it's nice that you don't need to pick up a Fuji camera to use them 🙂
It is usable in direct sunlight, as long as you use +3 display brightness setting. In the worst case scenario, you will have to tilt the screen using the articulating mechanism.
@@TheHybridShooter thank you. I installed the app and it's awesome. The 'limitation' is that you need the jpg with the right picture profile to have the creator intended result. Do you know if the picture profile is the same across all Panasonic cameras? I suppose it changes from sensor to sensor.
Yes, it is a limitation in the app, but you can apply any LUT in-camera in RAW Development menu if you shoot RAW. Picture profiles will probably be same, we will see once it becomes compatible with more Panasonic cameras.
From the beginning I through that this was a logical comparison to make because of their price and style, I am shocked that your video is the first I am seeing comparing the two. For me, being a photography enthusiast is also being a lens enthusiast, making the Panasonic the logical choice. I own and use the 50mm f1.8 you were using, and like it, but for this camera I think it would be fun to get some compact fast Chinese lenses or vintage lenses. Pergear 35mm 1.4 is very affordable and compact for its specs. TTartisans 50mm f2 is also very compact and very affordable. I own a very similar in size camera the Sigma FPL, it has a superior 60mp full frame sensor, but I am very jealous of the incredible internal stability of the S9. I can definitely see myself getting one in the future to have a second body for hand held video. Much easier to bring that than my gimbal or tripod.
Part of it is that people aren't comparing these two because it's really more of an apples to oranges comparison in reality. Since Fuji doesn't have a FF line, comparing anything to it (that isn't APSC) does make for some variables (and since Panasonic doesn't have APSC, well, that makes things a bit harder). Really, a comparison to say a Ricoh Gr vs X100VI would have made a bit more sense I guess.
@thehybridshooter Thank you for this interesting comparison. They both have their own peculiarities. Will you consider making a review between the S9 and the Sony A7cii? Cheers
To me, the success of the S9 probably hinges on the app. If it connects reliably and moves data quickly back and forth then I can see myself using the Lumix in quite a few second tier situations. For instance, I think it can become a good scout camera. Light and compact, plus you can quickly test and iterate different looks for the finished work. All the more helpful when you can push the same LUT onto a next gen S1H when that becomes available.
@@TheHybridShooter That says a lot and I suspect the app will become the most compelling reason to own a Lumix camera going forward. The seamless crop, color and upload (given modern large storage phones) will be a big plus.
@@TheHybridShooterdo you think the 12 bit is a software or hardware limitation? I know some fully electronic sensors are capable of more than 12 bit , or is that due to their stacked sensor design?
@@boredcat7 It’s a decision made to achieve a faster readout speed on the sensor, the 14-bit readout is only half as fast. I do think Panasonic should offer users the option to choose either, though.
@@boredcat7 for landscapes you can use the handheld high resolution mode. It should give you about 2 stops cleaner shadows and a noticeably sharper 100MP image.
thank you for the review! as a fujifilm x-e4 user I'm really excited to see similar design camera from other brand. I was thinking a lot about buying x-h2s or panasonic s5iix. first one just because a love fuji sims and already have a set of lenses, other one is because of ibis + af + video. but now it's complicated, s9 ticks almost all boxes for me except mechanical shutter. how is rolling shutter in s9? is it noticeable when panning and trying to capture some running dogs around, or kids, or wife sometimes? because 15 minutes of recording limit is not that bad to be honest, and maybe they will push that limit forward, like half an hour, will be perfect for me. Thank you again for the review!
I should have written… dead on arrival for me. And yes I did think the review was great so I’m confused as to why you’d write that in reply. Never mind.
Interesting! Thank you for another great video, love it. Shooting MFT and S5ii in artificial lights, I go always in mechanical shutter mode as I had pretty often bending issues with the electronically one. But having this option I did not try to figure out in detail when exactly bending comes up. Make sense that with longer exposures above 1/100 it will be reduced. But for a camera like this I’d prefer to have an easy to use tool and that would be a mechanical shutter by default. I would not use such a small camera for high burst rate shots anyway. So S9 to me is much more a video cam with good photo options, able to deliver high FF quality but in limited scenarios. Not to mention that this all depends on suitable lens options which are missing. To me the 1.8 Panas look to big on this cam. I’ll keep waiting for a GX8/GX9 successor even though a “poor man’s” Q3 alternative would also be pretty compelling.
As great of a comparison as this was, I was surprised you said nothing about the potential for using any type of flash or not... the s9 literally has zero ability to use any flash whatsoever sadly, whilst the x100vi has an internal flash, AND a proper hotshoe, not to mention a beautiful leaf shutter that can really go along way with a flash. That's potentially a huge deal to some
Thank you! Not for the intended use and the target audience. Putting a flash on a camera such as this one would defeat its purpose. If you want to use a flash, this is obviously not for you.
@@TheHybridShooterYou mean it's purpose as a camera? Lol!! Sorry not trying to be a smartass but it's funny kuz its true. And if this was a comparison between the Panasonic and the x100vi, then that's a pretty big difference in favor of the x100vi. And not for nothing, if the s9 is aimed at the younger hipster tik tokers, you'd think a flash (like the x100vi) would go hand and hand with that social media crowd
@@akyerit Feel free to be amused, there is nothing wrong with that, but the S9 is really intended for those who can appreciate having a full frame sensor in the smallest possible package, and are willing to accept associated compromises. They already make the S5 II for those who are not willing to accept those compromises.
@@TheHybridShooter well Sigma did it with the FP. And Sony did it with the RX1? And you're right they all had to make compromises. The RX1 had a hot shoe, a mechanical shutter, and even a pop up viewfinder, but no ibis. The Sigma FP had none of these things lol, but did include all of the cinema features way back before most. And ofcourse a $700 addon viewfinder lol. I totally agree the S9 has some impressive abilities for such a small full frame package, but they did opt for a bigger battery over a mechanical shutter specifically, and I can imagine, most would have been fine with carrying several smaller batteries around with them and still been able to use a mechanical shutter. Especially considering you can't record for more than 10 mins at a time anyways. So what use is having a bigger battery right?
@@akyerit That is probably impossible to know without some kind of survey. I think that there would be a lot of complaints about the small battery. Panasonic would probably have to make at least 5 versions of this camera to make everybody happy, which is not realistic.
Love your reviews, they are very complete. One small feedback, that irks me a little bit, is that your audio or speech sounds like sentences, silence, sentence, silence. After a while it feels like listening to AI, not a human person. Im sure you have your reasons, jut figure I share.
Hi, one of the haters here. The S9 is not better than the Fuji X100VI this video glossed over a bunch of things to make it seem that way but the S9 fails in so many ways compared to the X100VI. I can list all the ways if you are interested.
@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Unfortunately, your list from your other comment is pure Fujifilm fanboyism. I am sorry, there is no other way to say it. One could just as easily say that I have glossed over X100VI's failures.
For video, if you want small form factor, I think ZVE1 is by far the best. Uncropped 60fps and barely cropped 120fps is the reason why and low light capability combined with best autofocus on any camera. The photos are pretty decent too. If you want a camera that does photos better as well, both of these are nice options. I won’t go APSC now though and must have full frame. So it would be the LUMIX I think for me. However the 15 min limit is a bit tight.
ZV-E1 is much more expensive. As far a I have heard, it also has pretty serious overheating issues. At 12 MP, it is not a hybrid camera. Low light is basically the same with all FF BSI cameras. Panasonic has fully matched Sony AF after the last FW update. Much like the S9, ZV-E1 is a niche camera, probably more niche than the S9 due to 12 MP sensor.
@@TheHybridShooter it’s £200 more in the U.K. personally I’ve never had it overheat in a year and it’ll certainly do a lot more than 15 mins video as the LUMIX here does. Agree it’s primarily a video camera though. It’s superb though.
I know, people always complain... So I do now: I really hope Panasonic do not let down mFT. This system is unique and cant be replaced. We really need a GX800, GM1 or GX9 successor. #mFTcrew
The way I see it, I think Panasonic and Olympus's biggest problem is that mft cameras have gotten so large (such as the OM5) that it's about the same size as an APSC camera, and the cost is getting to be about the same, so many people are getting the APSC cameras instead because there is no real "loss" in doing so but they can benefit from the larger sensor and higher resolutions. That's where I think panasonic and Olympus are missing out and losing (20MP is fine on m4/3 but they're running up against a wall, just like how APSC and FF are with resolutions around 40 MP and 60MP respectively, but most people consider 20MP to be low resolution as well, which that can be debated depending on the us). But at the same time the 20MP limitation will limit what Panasonic can do with the m4/3 in terms of video, which was one of their big strengths with the GH series.
This comparison video is really well made and detailed UNTIL you start really paying attention: 1. At 7:49 you talk about the S9 not having a mechanical shutter, which is HUGE for things like Action shots, Night life shooting and the biggest one FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, but you spent a total of 30 seconds stating that making excuse for the S9 saying the the "average S9 user" won't need to shoot at over 1/100 with artificial light. Ignoring that there are TONS of situations where you need to use those settings, you state that this is an IN DEPTH COMPARISON! You can't just gloss over certain features because you think its not necessary. And you forgoing the Fuji X100VIs greatest feature which is its Leaf Shutter makes this comparison a bit biased IMO. 2. At 13:47 You're making another excuse for the S9 when it comes to record limits vs X100VI's UNLIMITED VIDEO RECORDING stating "Most people probably don't shoot longer clips than that" AGAIN ignoring the fact that if you want to do Livestreaming, podcasts, sit down interviews, talking heads (Which lots of social mediaites use) or the plethora of things you need long unrestricted recording, so for you to spend only 16seconds talking aboug this HUGE Panasonic Downside is a little suspicious. You also never stated it's only 10minutes in 6k and 20minutes in 1080p! When it comes to Panasonic Cons you gloss over them, only talking about then for mere seconds making excuses for them but when it comes to a Clear Fujifilm Strength it is downplayed or never brought up. 3. At 14:29 you make another excuse for the S9 stating that it doesn't have a joystick but the S9 makes up for it by having a REALLY GOOD touchscreen, the X100VI also has a REALLY GOOD touchscreen which makes it weird that you mention this about the S9 in an IN DEPTH COMPARISON. Like why is it everytime Panasonic doesn't have something you make an excuse for it? 4. At 16:00 you talk about about one of the X100VI's BEST FEATURE its Hybrid OVF/EVF honestly TOP 5 best implementations on any camera on the market, you praise it and rightfully so. But UGH, you then went ahead and starting making excuses for the S9 which has no EVF to speak of. You state that you are personally fine with the space saving with no EVF (Which again it's an In DEPTH COMPARISON so it's weird to state that) and that it is a GOOD DECISION that Panasonic left out the EVF?!?!?! Like come on dude, having any EVF (Even the .5 magnification of the one you say isn't worth it) is better than having NONE. What about Shooting outdoors, shooting discrete and making sure your composition is spot on! An EVF is great for all that but here you go again making excused for the S9. Its like you can't help it. In conclusion, for an IN DEPTH COMPARISON this failed on SOOOOO MANY LEVELS. -You never mentioned the lack of a hotshoe, -You did zero Flash Photography (Something that is AMAZING with the X100VI and its blazing fast Leaf shutter) - You went out of your way to not show the banding that occurs with the S9 - You avoided showing the S9's rolling shutter performance - You speak about the Panasonic's interchangeable lenses while completely leaving out that the X100Vi also has interchangable lenses in the form of lens adapters plus it works well with Anamorphic adapters, the guys over at CineD did an entire video on that. - You gloss over the BEST features of the X100VI while simultaneously making excuses for the S9 at every turn This is why people are starting to not trust camera reviewers, you claim to be making a proper camere comparison but all I saw was a quick video that promotes the S9 by praising its strengths and glossing over its many weaknesses. And when the next camera comes out it will be rinse and repeat. I honestly thought you were above that but clearly I was mistaken. Edited: Spelling
I'm sorry, but this is ridiculously one-sided Fujifilm fanboyism. I hate saying that, but you gave me no other choice. One could also argue that I didn't spend enough time criticizing Fuji AF in video, that I went out of my way not to show poor performance of Fuji IBIS while walking, or that I haven't sufficiently criticized Fujifilm's small battery etc. ... it would be just as pointless. Criticizing the amount of time that I spend on negative points?! Seriously? 1. You don't need shutter speeds above 1/100s for the “nightlife”. The rest of your described situations is exactly what the S9 is NOT designed to do. That is why I will spend even less time talking about it the next time. 2. Yes, that is exactly what most people don't do. As I have said, if you need longer recording times, you need something else, I'm not sure what is so difficult to understand there. 3. Except that it doesn't work in the main menu. 4. I think that I have offered more than sufficient explanation why I am fine with no EVF.
@@TheHybridShooterThanks for confirming everything in my comment. You are picking and choosing what to cover of what you deem is important while knowingly glossing over things. Two things you don't want a reviewer to say about in an IN DEPTH COMPARISON! Just because the S9 isn't designed to do something doesn't mean the viewers shouldn't be informed about it. Aren't you the reviewer? Also you can't see a situation where you will shoot faster than 1/100 at night? I guess you love blurry party and night shots... Also you failed to reply to my Leaf shutter argument, my flash argument, and lack of hot shoe argument but decided to focus on the battery issue which is easily solved by just bringing a spare battery (Try bringing a spare EVF or Hot shoe) I guess you are picking and choosing what to omit from your comment just like your video. Oh excuse me your "IN DEPTH COMMENT" P.S. I don't even like the X100VI but I don't let that cloud my judgement unlike some people...
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI You are confirming your own biases, I have nothing to do with it. I am actually spending as little time as I can on everything. This is already the longest video that I have ever made. As I wrote, your perception does the rest of the work here. Maybe if you complained about some Panasonic and Fuji weakness in the same way, I would understand, but what you wrote in that form is just ridiculously one-sided.
@@TheHybridShooterWait, did you see my original comment? I stated all the weaknesses of Panasonic as well as the likes of the Fuji X100VI. I did it in a well made and detailed list. Here in Switzerland the price difference between the S9 and the S5ii is so small that I don't see the point of the S9. Okay it is smaller but once you start adding the lenses it is no longer small just unwieldy. The price here of the Sony A7cii is almost the same as the S9. Both are full frame, both small and both take exchangeable lenses. Would that not be a fairer comparison?
The whole point of the S9 is the size to performance (output quality) ratio. If that is not the main priority for you, S5 II will indeed be a better choice. A7C II is 500-600€ more in the EU. The A7C II is much more bulky in reality, but the selection of small e-mount lenses, is better at the moment. Fair or not, I don’t have one.
@@TheHybridShooterHe states that after you slap on a lens the size to performance ratio goes out the window rendering the one advantage that the S9 has null and void
@@TheHybridShooter Wouldn't even the smallest Sigma lens like from its contemporary series ruin any chance of it being pocketable like the X100VI. At that point if you have to wear it on a strap I think more people would be willing to carry the slightly bigger S5ii if it allows them more freedom and features. But that is getting to subjectivity so while I would personally take the slight increase in weight for the better everything on the S5 ii, I know there is a good amount of people out there not willing to make that trade off hence why cameras like the Leica Q3 is exist.
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI I have never seen anybody put X100VI / V into their pocket, it is not that "pocketable". You can theoretically have it in you jacket pocket, but vast majority of people use neck strap or wrist traps. It is possible to put the S9 with smaller i series primes into jacket pocket as well.
The amount of visible detail in the Panasonic is significantly greater, you can see it in the texture of furniture or in the leaves of trees. It's a huge difference. But overall it's not a problem in both cameras. The worst thing about Fuji is the menu. A million functions and total chaos where you don't know what's going on.
If you talk camera business, maybe. But overall Panasonic is like thousand times bigger corporation that produces about everything related to electronics.
@@dunric88 For me, Panasonic isn’t going to get my money. Other than the XH line, to me Fuji users are more photographers than videographers or hybrid shooters. What a great comparison Video... Very good indeed! It helped me to confirm that the FujiFilm X100 VI is not only technically but also by the price range, a much better Digital camera.
@@TheHybridShooter So instead of giving a better more appropiate comparison you decided to use the X100VI just because it will give you more clicks??? Am I reading that correctly?...
@@TheHybridShooter So enlighten me, if you had lets say an X-T5 or a Sony ZV Camera would you have done a video comparison against those cameras instead of the Fuji X100VI? Because you stated its popularity (which it is more popular than those two other camera previously stated) is one of the reasons you picked it as a comparison. Just want some clarification here (genuinely) Edited: Spelling and grammar
Thanks for the video. Size and weight comparison should be done with equivalent lenses. The pancake, toy, F8 only manual lens on the S9 was produced with the only intention of deceivingly facilitate this comparison. The 23 F2 on the Fuji is a propper lens. Use an euivalent lens on Panasonic and it is not compact anymore, just a regular big heavy camera by comparison, without a propper grip or EVF
I have said that multiple times in the video. 26mm F8 has some very pleasant surprises that haven’t been revealed yet. Also, there are other small lenses available for the L-mount, such as Sigma i series.
To me, there is no basis for comparison between these two cameras. The S9 is not necessarily a compact camera. It is an interchangeable lens camera. It’s clear what they are trying to pull off, but a better comparison would be with the Fujifilm E4 or a Sony A7Cr.
It's ok he stated in another comment the popularity of the X100VI was one of the reasons he chose to compare it. But he did say he will compare it to the Fuji X-T50 soon so we can look forward to that video even though I think that should've came first.
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Good points. Not another channel is wrong that there isn’t any comparison between the two cameras. Both bodies are small and lightweight. @@Sorennn94I also agree that the X-T5 would've been a much better comparison but as he stated in another comment he chose the X100VI Because it was more popular. His reasoning not mines
If you take old Panasonic GF1 with 20mm/f1.7 lens and X100V, then X100V is more flat and pocketable. Not to mention that lens cap adds like 3mm of thickness to GF1. I actually bought X100V as a direct upgrade to GF1, because GX9 or GX85 are bigger. But yes, Ricoh has much smaller APSC camera.
Well, the X100 series dose have the hybrid OVF so that does make the camera have to be a bit bigger, plus I think it's big on purpose, so it's easy to grip better. Since the S9 doesn't really have much in the way of a grip, many might find the body to be too small actually.
I only use my cameras for photography so my comment is based from a photographers view. I have many different cameras from Panasonic, Olympus Fujifilm, Pentax, and Nikon, my Panasonic cameras are the S5,S5 MKII, G9 AND G95 , Because the S9 may be a stripped down version with a full frame sensor it reminds me of shooting with a phone camera on steroids but because of the important features that it lacks, viewfinder, hotshoe and mechanical shutter i would not consider it as part of my camera collection. The way the body is designed with a lack of control diles and a grip makes it hard to use with larger lens, i have a Nikon ZF and Zfc and i would much rather spend the money on another lens than on the Panasonic S9. To me my Panasonic S5 and S5 MKII is a better choice for photography.
The market for this s9 is people looking to upgrade from phone photography. Not people who already have tons of cameras to use. I really don't get why collectors wade in on discussions on cameras like this one.
Lumix should have made 3500€ S9 with unlimited recording, 4k 60 uncropped, best viewfinder and mechanical shutter, and offer two different megapixel variants. Anyone could do it but not for cheap, Lumix should stop competing with price and instead make something grander. If you have good enough camera people will buy even if it's really expensive.
@@TheHybridShooter It does if one makes it happen. It's ironic to me see the limitations collectively of human intellect, when we carry the barriers of what is and isn't possible, no matter how much evidence there is. At the end, it's an emotional question for majority, that's the problem.
The fact is, the camera market is shrinking. Lumix already has the S5II as its 'pro' marketed camera. The S9 is primarily aimed at creators, who are primarily made of a younger generation who may never have looked through an EVF. They want to look at the back screen. From a business standpoint, Lumix clearly made the right move here, as it got people talking about them and made reviews / comparisons like this possible. From a photographer standpoint, I'm happy even though this camera isn't for me, it will bring more people into appreciating the art of photography and videography, and perhaps turn that downward tide back a bit so Lumix and its competitors can continue making cameras at all.
It's true, the lens on the X100VI lens isn't quite enough to resolve its 40mp. I reckon it would've cost fuji slightly more to engineer a better lens but, alas they did not most likely on the basis that it's target audience wouldn't care too much about the slight loss in resolution since it's more than sharp enough for most situations you would find yourself in with this camera You can see in the video that the S9 given its 24mp comes close to resolving near to if not the same amount of detail as the 40mp Fuji
A viewfinder is a must for any camera worth its salt, at least for my generation so, is a NO for the panny in my case... and the millennials will keep on with their phones anyway (and their shitty vertical video mania).

The last time I checked, the waiting time for an X100VI was 2 months from the order.
@@TheHybridShooter Estimate is now about 6 months for new orders here in the UK.
How do you know you'll be able to get a S9 next month??? Right now no one has a S9 in their hands, so it will be interesting how this camera ships/sells... did you place a pre-order?
@@TheHybridShooterwhich country are you in? 2 months is an extremely short waiting time.
That was info from a shop in Slovakia.
Thanks for good comparison review. The Panasonic is a really interesting package
My pleasure, thank you for watching!
That's a really great comparison, thanks for that! Finally some real world use exp rather than vlogers repeating marketing slogans.
Thank you!
Excellent comparison and placement of perspective
Thank you!
I hope you are right. I am rooting for Panasonic.

Honestly the Brightin Star 28mm f2.8 Pancake would make for a great lens for this camera, especially at only $300 bucks

The S9 will be an appretiated camera 6 months from now, and many will realize it was overhated due to Gerald Undone.
They look incredible, so it's nice that you don't need to pick up a Fuji camera to use them 🙂
sorry noob question: how do you get official Fuji LUTs?
can we do the same in Olympus omd em10?
How is the viewing experience on the S9 display in bright outdoor light? Thanks.
It is usable in direct sunlight, as long as you use +3 display brightness setting. In the worst case scenario, you will have to tilt the screen using the articulating mechanism.
Great. Thanks.
10:29 😳😳😲😲 that's a big SD card!!!
Hello, are you able to edit raw files in the Lumix lab app? Or you is it only for JPGs files?
Only JPEGs at the moment, it might change later on.
Really thorough comparison! Enjoyed this one a lot ✌🏻
Thank you, I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
Wonderful and expertly executed comparative analysis! Fascinating to observe!
An interesting and worthwhile comparison. Thanks.
I would pick the S9
Love S9 the compact design fullframe ❤
@thehybridshooter Thank you for this interesting comparison. They both have their own peculiarities. Will you consider making a review between the S9 and the Sony A7cii? Cheers
My pleasure! I don’t have A7C II, so probably not.
A very good point.
It is by far the best camera app that I have ever used, actually the only one that I kept using after the first week.
@@TheHybridShooter That says a lot and I suspect the app will become the most compelling reason to own a Lumix camera going forward. The seamless crop, color and upload (given modern large storage phones) will be a big plus.
Would you say the 12 bit stills from the s9 being image quality closer to the Fuji?
Not in the real world.
@@TheHybridShooterdo you think the 12 bit is a software or hardware limitation? I know some fully electronic sensors are capable of more than 12 bit , or is that due to their stacked sensor design?
@@boredcat7
It’s a decision made to achieve a faster readout speed on the sensor, the 14-bit readout is only half as fast. I do think Panasonic should offer users the option to choose either, though.
@@Ildskalli I agree for landscapes the 14 bit would be great. I have an a7cr and the banding is crazy when using e shutter indoors
@@boredcat7 for landscapes you can use the handheld high resolution mode. It should give you about 2 stops cleaner shadows and a noticeably sharper 100MP image.
Not the video I was looking for but a very welcome one.
Are LUT and Simulations the same thing with different names, like filters?
They essentially do the same thing, but the implementation is very different.
This is a very useful video
Thank you!
If apple made the S9, they probably gonna put a tandem oled for the screen.
thank you for the review! as a fujifilm x-e4 user I'm really excited to see similar design camera from other brand.

@@TheHybridShooter my english is not good that's why i was asking
Great comparison review.
No EVF and that damn, slow, conspicuous side hinged flippy, flappy screen meant that the S9 was dead on arrival.
Thank you, although my review says something completely different, so I am not sure you think that it was great.
I should have written… dead on arrival for me. And yes I did think the review was great so I’m confused as to why you’d write that in reply. Never mind.
Great video as always ! Did you notice banding or other artifacts due to artificial lights with the electronic shutter using the S9 ? Thanks
Thank you! Not in the real world, it only happens above 1/100 s. with certain types of artificial lights.
Overall, Lumix wins hands down.
Thanks bro!
Hello my friend, a really informative, thoughtful and unbiased comparison.
Thank you!
If Panasonic could give us a similar pancake 28f2.8 as Nikon or Canon, they would have a real competitor here. ✨
Yes, any pancake lens would be great.
I wish I can even find the Fuji!
Feels like the S9 is Panasonic take on Sigma fp
Love your reviews, they are very complete. One small feedback, that irks me a little bit, is that your audio or speech sounds like sentences, silence, sentence, silence. After a while it feels like listening to AI, not a human person. Im sure you have your reasons, jut figure I share.

Perfect. The S9 is far superior. I am so glad Panasonic caused so much pain to haters.
It is a bit more complicated...
It may not be the camera most would love to see at this price point. But there are some i suppose.
Hi, one of the haters here. The S9 is not better than the Fuji X100VI this video glossed over a bunch of things to make it seem that way but the S9 fails in so many ways compared to the X100VI. I can list all the ways if you are interested.
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI please do as i have yet to decide which camera i will buy

#mFTcrew
Yeah, lack of complaints certainly isn't an issue this time :)
This comparison video is really well made and detailed UNTIL you start really paying attention:
-You never mentioned the lack of a hotshoe,
-You did zero Flash Photography
(Something that is AMAZING with the X100VI and its blazing fast Leaf shutter)
- You went out of your way to not show the banding that occurs with the S9
- You avoided showing the S9's rolling shutter performance
- You speak about the Panasonic's interchangeable lenses while completely leaving out that the X100Vi also has interchangable lenses in the form of lens adapters plus it works well with Anamorphic adapters, the guys over at CineD did an entire video on that.
- You gloss over the BEST features of the X100VI while simultaneously making excuses for the S9 at every turn
This is why people are starting to not trust camera reviewers, you claim to be making a proper camere comparison but all I saw was a quick video that promotes the S9 by praising its strengths and glossing over its many weaknesses.
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Not if you choose the right lens, such as Sigma i series.
It seems the S9 cannot use flash since it has no internal flash and no real hot shoe (no contact point)😢

@@dunric88 For me, Panasonic isn’t going to get my money. Other than the XH line, to me Fuji users are more photographers than videographers or hybrid shooters. @@Sorennn94I also agree that the X-T5 would've been a much better comparison but as he stated in another comment he chose the X100VI Because it was more popular. His reasoning not mines
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI Let me fix it for you: "My misinterpretation, not his".
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI The sizes are the same in what was compared.
Every time I see it I think, "the X100 series is too big for it's sensor size".
You are obviously not in the target audience, despite the common belief, Panasonic is not trying to sell this camera to everybody.
Uhhh, no, that is not how the market works.
@@halve_ You may try to make it sound very sophisticated, but it is BS regardless.
@@liveandletlift370 Ok.
whats the point to compare them ?? 😆
To make you think about it.
Without timestamps… can’t find what I want to know. Sorry, looking someplace else
Don't care, it took me long enough to make this video. A bit of scrolling is the least that you can do.
Entitled much
Kind of an apples to oranges comparisons here a bit.
That is completely fine by me.
The IQ of Fuji ist, as expectet, worth - not because of APSC, but because of X-Trans.
No. You can easily get rid of X-Trans imperfections + I have mostly compared JPEGs this time.
It's true, the lens on the X100VI lens isn't quite enough to resolve its 40mp.
I reckon it would've cost fuji slightly more to engineer a better lens but, alas they did not most likely on the basis that it's target audience wouldn't care too much about the slight loss in resolution since it's more than sharp enough for most situations you would find yourself in with this camera
You can see in the video that the S9 given its 24mp comes close to resolving near to if not the same amount of detail as the 40mp Fuji
A viewfinder is a must for any camera worth its salt, at least for my generation so, is a NO for the panny in my case... and the millennials will keep on with their phones anyway (and their shitty vertical video mania).
X100VI looks like trash in front of S9😂
