My list is: 1. Bloom (first album I heard by them , extremely personal record to me) 2. Devotion 3. Self titled 4. Teen Dream 5. Depression Cherry 6. 7 7. B sides and rarities 8. Thank your lucky stars This is one of the only bands I listen to that I could say has no bad albums , period
Agreed that Bloom is the band's best, especially the stunning, sublime soundscapes in "On the Sea" (Victoria Legrand's piano and Joe Cueto's viola a miniature orchestra conducting a waltz for the end of the world) and "Irene" (Alex Scally's guitar at its most intense!)
Depression Cherry & Thank Your Lucky Stars are tied for me at number 2. "Levitation" is their best opening track as it keeps lifting the listener higher, "Space Song" is hypnotic, "Wildflower" is pastoral, "Days of Candy" is a colorful psychedelic closing track with a choir creating deeply spiritual vibes, the rest of the songs are weaker than Bloom. The first side of Thank Your Lucky Stars is weaker material, but on the second side "The Traveller" and "Elegy to the Void" express an epic spaciousness, "Rough Song" contains mysterious textures, and "Somewhere Tonight" is a cinematic, romantic, timeless closing track that could have been recorded during the 1950s/1960s. Teen Dream is at number 3 for me. Agreed that Victoria's lyrics/vocals are quite emotional and "Walk in the Park" is heartbreaking lost love. The instrumental background is not as compelling and strong for me in the tracks on this album. 7 is at number 4 for me. "Dark Spring" & "Last Ride are an energetic opener/closer, "L'Inconnue with its cathedral chants and French poetry is unique, and "Lose Your Smile" is beautifully breezy. The darker, edgier risk taking is more distracting than intriguing to me ("Lemon Glow", "Drunk in LA", "Black Car"). Devotion & the debut are tied at number 5 for me. There are some memorable moments ("Saltwater", "Apple Orchard", "Gila") but most of the songs are not as distinguishable and the production is muted, sleepy, spare. The band was just beginning to develop their sound so that's why I rank these the lowest.
my list would be... 1. Beach House (very special to me, mainly because it just makes me feel warm, cozy and like home) 2. Teen Dream 3. Bloom 4. Depression Cherry 5. 7 6. Devotion 7. Thank Your Lucky Stars 8. Once Twice Melody 9. B sides and Rarities Favourite band ever. No other band/artist makes me feel the way beach house does.
My list: 1. Teen Dream 2. Depression Cherry - Bloom 3. Thank Your Lucky Stars - Once Twice Melody 4. 7 - Beach House - Devotion 5. B-sides and Rarities
my list 1. Teen Dream - first listened to this whole album during quarantine while riding my bike around the countryside and it's probably my favorite album ever at this point 2. Bloom - close second, as you said this is the quintessential dream-pop album 3. Depression Cherry - amazing, space song might be the quintessential dream-pop song 4. Thank Your Lucky Stars - very lovely chill album, somewhere tonight is one of my fav bh songs ever, I love the 50s love song feel to it 5. 7 - one of the albums that got me into them, dark spring is a highlight 6. Self Titled - sounds like my grandmas house, such unique vibe 7. Devotion - my least listened to bh record, could probably get higher up when eventually give it an in-depth listen 8. B-Sides - Equal Mind is one of their best songs thanks for making this video, Beach House are probably fav band ever and you described each album perfectly
Nice vid and list: My ranking including OTM: 1. Bloom 2. Teen Dream 3. 7 4. Devotion 5. Once Twice Melody (would be higher, too bloated tho) 6. Depression Cherry (imo slightly overrated) 7. TYLS 8. Beach House
1. Beach House - Yep, this is my favorite Beach House album and I stick by that opinion. I just love the vibes of these songs. It’s pretty unique for Beach House but I think everything I love about Beach House is there. Favorite songs: Saltwater, Apple Orchard, Master of None, Lovelier Girl 2. Depression Cherry - This is my first Beach House album. This one really grew on me after multiple listens. Every single song in Depression Cherry is just amazing. This is the most consistent tracklist in the Beach House discography. It’s just so floaty and good vibes all around. Favorite songs: Levitation, Space Song, Wildflower, Days of Candy 3. Teen Dream - This is an absolute classic and for good reason. It has a wonderful nostalgic sound and a great listen all around. This was the second Beach House album I ever listened to and I definitely have a soft spot for it. However, maybe I just listened to it too much because some of the songs here just don’t hit as well ad they used to. Favorite songs: Zebra, Silver Soul, Walk In The Park, Take Care 4. Devotion - I didn’t expect to like this one as much as I did. It’s just so different from their other albums in the best ways possible. Some of the most beautiful sounding Beach House songs are on this album. I definitely think this is an underrated album. Favorite songs: Gila, Heart of Chambers, Astronaut, D.A.R.L.I.N.G. 5. Bloom - This is a very Beach House album as far as the sound of it goes. It’s a great Beach House album. I will say that at around Troublemaker I start to get ear fatigue. I think this is definitely still a great album. Favorite songs: Myth, Lazuli, On The Sea, Irene (apart from that weird 7 minutes of silence) 6. 7 - That would be funny if my 7th favorite was 7, but that would be a lie. I love shoegaze, and this delivers those vibes pretty well. This is another pretty unique album from the duo and I am all for it. Favorite songs: Dark Spring, Lemon Glow, Drunk In LA, Black Car 7. Thank Your Lucky Stars - This is a great album, although I don’t really have much to say. That’s part of the reason it’s this low, the songs don’t leave much of an impression on me. Favorite songs: Majorette, One Thing, The Traveller, Rough Song 8. Once Twice Melody - This is currently the newest album they made. Unfortunately I’m not really that much of a fan of the sound of this album. Maybe someday this album will grow on me like Depression Cherry, but for now it’s bloated and a bit awkward sounding in my opinion. 9. B Sides and Rarities - The original songs are pretty good, nothing mindblowing, but then there’s a bunch of remixes and bonus tracks. Not only does it make the album’s flow a little wonky, but I also just think that remixes are something that I would usually never go out of my way to listen to. Favorite Songs: Chariot, Baby, I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun, Wherever You Go Beach House are amazing!
Top 10 favorite Beach House songs of all time! Master of None D.A.R.L.I.N.G. Walk In The Park Space Song Zebra Wildflower Apple Orchard Myth Saltwater Silver Soul
