I was feeling so depressed and sad because I was insecure about doing art for a living but your video really helped me! Thank you so much!💖
Ahh, yay! I'm so glad it help you! You can definitely do art for a living! There are so many options, and it is a real career!
@@MiraByler thank you! every time I'm in doubt I'll just watch your video!💗
This would be a great video for aspiring art students to share with their family, especially if their parents are skeptical of the potential for success in art. Also, I still do not feel I have found my style after many, many years of creating different types of art.
OMG I love your channel EIIKK
SoCraftastic agreed - I was not encouraged to take art as an exam course.
I am trying selling my art for the first time! I just started and Etsy shop! It's not very put together but at least I started. But hey, if you wait until it's prefect you'll be waiting forever.
Well said!
Hey Andra, how is your Etsy journey now?
I'm 12 and I'm already thinking about pursing art though I don't know how it will make me succeed my parents are like "You need to be a doctor something more, with art you won't win money or get a house and just be penniless " but Idc I kinda wanna do illustrate children's books
bro i feel the exact same way. i have so many ideas for children's books and ugh i really want to pursue art because i genuinely feel so happy everytime i create something. but i'd fall on my face :D
So I've been studying art for as long as I can remember and now I'm pursuing it as a program because I want to give it the dedication I think it deserves. I've heard basically everything like art is a hobby from my high school teachers to students mocking me because I'll just be a starving artist and my parents have been trying to get me to study something else like law or business. Not that I'm saying that's a bad area of study. I'm just at a point where I've doubted myself for so long that I'm considering giving up. My dad keeps telling me I need to focus on making money and that nobody is really happy in what they do, they do what they do because they have to survive. Needless to say, I'm not in a good living situation right now and I'm caught in this place of doubt.
I love everything to do with art and there's so much in it, I've done so much research -- design alone has fashion design, automobile design, lighting design, interior design, even architects could be artists, photography, set design, sculpture, art therapy, art professors, art administration, there is really so much more. And remembering that so much of that exists, it really inspires me to keep painting.
I don't know if I'll pursue something else but I know that I will never stop making art.
If I'm honest with myself, I want to write and illustrate comics and I think you're right -- it's never too early to start. Sorry for writing so much but you're video really inspired me to get that hustle.
Once you started listing off all the things you could do as an artist, it really got me thinking "wow, that really is a lot of stuff, and some of these I didn't even think about!" I'm not really sure what path I want to take and, honestly, there have been many times where I just wanted to quit art altogether because I was starting to feel like a starving artist.
Also, being a concept artist is also an option (like for a video game or a cartoon maybe). I really love the drawing too, it turned out beautiful!
I am an artist, but I tend to do the art form of writing.
That being said...I am looking for illustrators and cover artists, so if any fellow artists see this comment and want to reach out, feel free to let me know, because I would so much rather support an artist who is just getting started and doesn't have much of a fan base/customer base than someone who everyone knows about.
I’ll pin your comment so people see it!
Thank you! Even if I can't buy art from anyone, I would at least love to share it on my social media.
I'd love to illustrate a book but I don't draw cartoon I only do realism 🤦😭
@@steveyedougan8793 well realism is the base of illustrations... Try breaking an object, animals or humans into simple shapes. Focus on one thing and build up. There are lots of tutorials on UA-cam itself and I'd highly recommend skillshare.
Hi katie are you still looking for an illustrator?
Thank you Mira 💕✨ I used to want to become a vet since I was little because I thought I couldn't make a living from art and love animals of course. (i always said I'll be a vet then on the weekend have art garage sales) I realized last year at the end of my first semester in college, hey I just want a dog, I don't want to deal with medicine and such. I would cry if I couldn't save someone's best friend so not the job for me. I want to be an art teacher and freelance artist. This makes me so happy and hope it lets others know hey, you love art then make it for a living, it's possible!
I'm a full time graphic designer and it's quite the opposite of doing art for me. It's just sitting in front of a computer and moving things around until they are not so ugly anymore. I get that there is a possibility to be a creative graphic designer, but most of us aren't. It's just a "normal" 9 to 5 Job and in my opinion it has very little to do with art...
It takes a special kind of person to be a graphic designer. You sound very experienced. I’m sure if someone were to watch you work, they’d be amazed at how you can make arrange things to look good. I think graphic designers are so important. They shape the way we view businesses all around us, which can influence our decision to shop somewhere, etc. So thank you for doing what you do! It’s amazing! :)
Thank you! Don't get me wrong, it's not like it's a bad job. I just don't think that most graphic designers consider them artists. Graphic design has very little to do with drawing or being creative. But it's a nice job that pays the bills while I can pursue my passion on the side without freaking out about money :D
Hello Visual Mind, Am from india full time graphics designer am also feeling same as u thing. So can help me or guide me and also bcoz money is very important to survive good life. Hope u will give feedback to my answer.
I know this video is a few years old now, but I so needed to hear this today; revisiting art later in life and trying to make something out of it. You encouraged me to stick to it and keep practicing. Thanks, Mira!
Great artwork. Love the text book-ish style.
You mentioning designing fabric patterns reminded me about a video I watched recently. A lady talked about how she got into doing greeting cards, yard flags, banners, decorations for paper plates and cups and napkins, etc. Art is all around us. Sometimes we forget that it doesn't just appear out of nowhere. Someone somewhere had to come up with it.
That is so true! I think we become desensitized to the beauty of so many artistic details around us, that we forget to appreciate them sometimes. Thanks for the reminder. :)
You're welcome. Thank you for posting thought-provoking videos
Thank you for the encouragement!
Wow!!! Extremely valuable video! Lots of important topics discussed. Super informative AND encouraging. Awesome f*ckinfg job!!! After 15 years,I'm finally going to put my artwork out into the world and try to make a living next year in 2021!
What a original tipe of picture!!!! I love your videos. Greatings from Argentina
Thanks, Mariela!
I can't wait for this new series!
This piece is so beautiful and inspiring to me. I've never even thought of working doing the things you suggested. I went to school for physics so I feel dumb that I've never even paid attention to the diagrams!
Thank you so much for your constant encouragement. I know you made a video a while back about the struggles of being a youtuber. Regardless of how many followers you gain or lose, you make a great impact to people and that's all God asks of us.
So this week my mom and I talked about my studies and I told her that I’m going in art no matter what and she just laughed at me and said ‘’Yeah sure, you’re just thinking like a usual teenager.’’ Saying that I have to find something worth it that I could do better than an art job and etc.... But your video helped me because ngl I don’t know what in art I want to, art is so vaste and extended that I know I have multiple choices but now I see it clearly thanks to you !!
Thank you for this. This helped give me more inspiration in delving into my art career. I've definitely been the one to say "art isn't practical" to myself. But it's time that I stop lying to myself and stop being scared. Loved your video! And your flower painting ❤️
You are ten billion percent correct! I have two problems when it comes to my art/writing careers. The first is that I want to make all my hobbies into something lucrative, but I'm only one person, and I can't seem to stick to one hobby or another to get that far because of...
Reason the second: I was born with a rare and severe form of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. So if I do something for too long, or the more likely: for absolutely no reason, my arthritis will act up. I went years in remission, but after having my now 8 year old son, I've been on a slow decline to pretty much useless since. I mean I still have good days and bad days, but I can go months or even years where my arms or legs or any joints really, hurt too much for me to do something. These days, I've been unable to do much in the way of writing, so although I was getting published quite often, I was never able to keep that up. I can't even sit at a computer anymore. While writing, I was also selling designs on DeviantArt, and the same thing, I couldn't do digital art anymore, so I had to leave that too.
I mean, I can't complain too too much because I do get disability support from the government, but honestly, I'm a workaholic and not being able to do the things that was actually bringing in a bit of money is killing me.
So I started up watercolour panting and drawing and colouring with alcohol markers. But I still face the problem that sometimes my arms just hurt too much (which is also how my knitting "business" ended up abandoned.)
I know this is a problem most people don't face, and for most of my life, I've pushed myself through the pain (although it's currently worse than its ever been, so that's not really an option.)
I know there's not much anyone can do, but if anyone has suggestions of art jobs where you don't have to be 100% reliable, or where deadlines aren't a thing, I'd love to hear it.
Much love to you darling❤️ thanks for such motivating words.
Trading card illustration is something I eventually want to go into (I have a lot of technical skill to improve on yet) and board game illustration. There's also stull like greeting card illustration, character design, environment design, concept art, all sorts of careers exist in art, and I always think its really silly how people ignore that it's a perfectly valid career path. Like, there are literally examples of art as a career staring you in the face in every day life. I mean, album covers, book covers, advertising, newspaper comics. There's police sketches too. There's so much choice
This video was encouraging, all my life I have been passionate about art but then got discouraged about how people used to say how art is a dead end career. But this really got me thinking how I can be successful. And I love the flower nice work!
I'm just at the end of my first year of college studying fine art and I've been sat really depressed because I honestly feel like I'm going to end up leaving college and no matter what path I take, uni or apprenticeships, I'm going to be working a job I hate since it's so hard to make a living as an artist. I love art so much but I feel like I'm an idiot for thinking I can turn it into a career, no one is going to want to buy my work so I can't work freelance, and I feel like I would be better just leaving art as a hobby and working some other job full time. I really have no idea what to do I'm terrified I'm going to be left with a degree in art and nowhere to go
I fear the same
I’ve been trying out classes and I’ve learned that I kinda want to pursue art. I’ve been using a mouse for about 2 months now, and I’m thinking of asking my parents about buying a drawing tablet. Before this, I was kinda worried that If I practiced art, I would lag behind in school, not get into college, and fail. Thanks for telling me that I could support myself If I went on a professional level.
Lately I was really insecure about pursuing art and my parents always discouraged me. You know all these people telling you that you are wasting your time and you will never get a 'real' financially stable job out of doing art really made me doubt myself. But thinking about jobs made me forget why I even wanted to be an artist. It made me feel that my passion and desire to create is worthless. But this video is really inspiring and it made me really happy and excited to start creating again.
I was feeling so lost and hopeless today. Thank you so much for posting this video🙏🏼
OOOO I'm excited this is gonna be such a cool series!!
Hello, I'm currently writing an argumentative essay about "is art a profession ?" and this actually helped me come up with very great points. Thank you
do you still have your essay? I would like to read it if you do!
I've missed your speed-paint type of videos! Glad to see you're making more of them. :)
I am not an artist......yet but as a 8th grader I do want to get a career in art this really helped me feel better about wanting to be a artist so thank you!
oh my goodness this was so helpful and informative its shown me so many options ive never thought of before like textbook illustration ? thank you so much for making this vid ! 🤗🥰
Really need this video I always pushed the idea of becoming artist away because I was afraid I can't make money of it. But now I am so drawn to it I can't ignore it so decided to practice everyday and it makes me excited. I still don't know what exactly I want to do with it but it's good to hear about options. There's way too little videos about this topic so glad I stumbled across yours. Also would love to see the video about networking and overall stuff about turning art into career that would be great.
You're lettering that you did is so pretty! Thanks for the encouraging video! 😊
Thank You Mira, great advice for aspiring artists , I happen to be an old aspiring artist, I have lived through the spring and summer of my life, and would finally love to delve into art I have loved art, painting, drawing. I have been afraid of being too old lol
A Irizarry you are never to old to start art😊😊🤗🤗
Thank you :)
Thank you so much for everything already 💕. Love the painting and love your message!
Wow!! That's some serious flower power!! The advice gave me a lot to think about, although for now it's just for funsies.
Great video full of art info and I love your painting. Thanks Mira 😊
Hey girl this was really helpful so thank you so much! Just wanted to say I would love to see a Networking/Communication video!
Lol love you 😊
This is so helpful Mira, thank you!
Thank you
Wow thank you for this video! I would love to see one on networking! You’re very helpful
Omd this is like my study with me series only in more depth. I love it!!!! :DDDD
I love illustrations of plants in books and stuff. :3
I love this video it’s so helpful because my parents say me going to art college is a waste of my money and time but I don’t think so .
such a good video! and I love this painting! kind of makes me want to paint plants haha. such a good topic though. thank you for uploading this
for me i wanted to become an artist because i love draw and paint thats kind of my passion for what i like doing basically and i took some art classes when i was in highschool :) and I want to pursue a career in ART
was a life changing video for me
This was helpful thank you
I’m just wondering if making art is good enough to make money to keep making art and not end up broke because it makes people that pursue it happy, so is it worth the happiness to not make the money to make what makes you happy to begin with.
Thank You.
ive been feeling really down lately because im not doing well in any of my classes, and i was scared that i will never get a job, but then i remember my love for art.. maybe i can get a job to do with that
I love the paintings ur really good
So I don't have social media, but I want to be able to show other people my artwork. How do I do that? A blog?
Mira byler I am in this art block where I don't want to paint or draw do u have any tips and do u now what I can draw!? ur amazing at art !
There are apps that you can download that will give you a topic to draw. Just doodle or draw something. Go back to the basics, take an art class IRL or online.
Thanks for the advice *subs*
I would like more, please.
Concept art
I've been trying to reach out to artists for advice but many don't respond because of no time or they probably aren't interested because I'm not a well known artist. It's pretty discouraging. But anyway this was a great video,s I hope I can find some niche in art that I can not only fit in but enjoy.
I hope you can find that too! There's definitely one out there for you. :)
Suuuuch a good video!! What are your thoughts about reaching out to companies to offer your services? Is there an acceptable format for that?
I want to start a UA-cam eventually. I do commissions on the side and I finally got an art room just this past couple months. But I just domt think I can make it haha..so. I guess itll be a good hobby 😭
First
I'm so scared of becoming a starving artist amd having to keep it a hobby or side job with a normal job in order to make a living
Jyst wondering if you got a graphic design degree, or fine art? Or neither
i want to become a character designer, witch job should i apply for?
i come from an asian household and my parents prefer me to go for business, law or medical. Other majors are an okay but they wouldnt like it, and tbh im okay at art not THAT good coz i stopped drawing for like a few years lol. Im fine with science, im just naturally good at it tbh which is probably why i might go to the medical side or smt lol and the thing is... i love money lol, not like the unhealthy obsession with money that i'd spend it randomly. my family isnt financially stable so i cant do much things -- which makes me value money a lot and what job pays well? being in the medical field. but idk, im not that devoted to studying lmao, im only saying this bc im naturally good at certain subjects but idk whether im able to handle university work tbfh. i wanna improve with like tuition bc i cant do anything on my own- i proscrastinate and drag time too much-- but i cant afford tuition, esp now with the pandemic- idk whether when my family can get back on a good track again bc money is coming in slow mainly bc of the pandemic. i like art- but im not sure whether im good enuf to be an artist, or anything related to art. The fact i am limited to do things rn makes me wanna give up tbh ;---;
;---;
i wish i have a counselor in my school but my school cant afford that either
Love you💞💞
How would you recommend finding someone to sponsor me for my art on instagram? I prefer flowers and plant life but am learning to draw anything
I want to be more present in social media with my art. But there's one question which is always in my mind and stop me: Which name should I use for example on Instagram? Should it be my real name or not? 🤔 Any advise? I mean.. I was told, that you shouldn't use your real name because it is safer..
Ciri Smith I used my real name because I was selling my art on other platforms using my real name. But, I think as long as you keep your name consistent on all platforms, that is definitely the way to go. If you don't feel safe using your real name maybe try a nickname or something. I will say I was nervous about using my real name but it helped when networking through my school with professors and such.
What college did you go to get your degree
I really wanna get an art Related job but in my country artists are not that valuable And they(my family) often criticize me about my passion. I wanna go to another country where Artist are valuable af but im scared and idk how to live by myself 💀
You are valuable as an artist no matter where you are! There are so many opportunities for you. I was criticized when I first started too, but it gets better. I'm glad you are still hanging on to your passion. I made a video on my channel last year titled side hustles for artists. If you want some ideas for career opportunities, I highly recommend. Best of luck to you! I believe in you. :)
@@MiraByler oml thanks for the push :"< I'll definitely check that out
