Having this issue with my 1803 presently. I am watching your video intently so I can fix this. My pivot point seems to move freely when the lid is off and while on a strait stitch setting. However, when I try stitching with a cam in it will only sew backwards. My reverse lever also feels limp. My stitch length is not adjusting either when I switch from 6 to 12. Only when I turn the dial to the satin stitch/buttonhole setting will it sew with a smaller length stitch. Ugh!
You have to free up the pivoting reverse/stitch length cam I am showing in my video. Clean with either rubbing alcohol or deoderized kerosene, I dip Qtips or a paintbrush or old toothbrush, if you can get them down to this area, to clean off the old sticky brown oil. Then I oil with either sewing machine oil or Tri Flow oil.
I just did videos showing how to clean the old Kenmore stitch selector on an 1813 (several models have this same style), I also shared the photos and videos on my blog tumorfarmer.blogspot.com/2022/08/kenmore-1813-sewing-machine.html
Excellent video. Thank you so much, Rebecca!
This is actually very helpful.

Is there a way to increase the stitvh length on these machines past factory?
My stitch control dial is sticking. How can I get it going.

The inner stich control dial is not turning. So that I can select the type of stitch.
