Thank you for sharing. We have had 7 dogs and one of them was a Schipperkee cattle dog mix and she was THE. BEST. DOG. ever! Our 12 years with her were way too short and we miss her terribly and think of her every day. 2 years later we are still heart broken and miss this most special dog.
I inherited a golden Schipperke who was full of fun and joie de vivre. He died of liver cancer a while back, and he left me with so many wonderful memories that I'm getting a puppy in a few weeks. Seeing your little guy loving life so much was heartwarming and reminded me why I can't wait for my puppy. Cheered me up. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful Yogi. We have a nine year old female rescue, K.C., who is our second Schip. Could not ask for a more fantastic dog and/or breed. Hopefully, you now have another Schip to share your life with. The BEST companions ever!
My family had a Schipperke who lived to be 16 - she was the dog I grew up with, and it's nice to see other people appreciate this great companion. This video reminded me of some of my childhood.
I wish my life was as fun and free as Yogi's. In a world with dogs who are crated all day, and do not live a life like your wonderful Yogi, bless you my friend. I'll think of yogi's life when I need to remember sometimes life is beautiful. PARTY ON YOGI.
I love these little dogs. They have a majestic and joyful demeanor. What I love most is their personalities, they are playful and energetic at times, but they also know when to settle down. I'm afraid mine was never able to sail the high seas, but he lives a quiet home-life in our neighborhood.
This is beautiful. It actually made me cry because 2 of my Schipperkes passed away in the last 2 years (one at 15, the other at 17). Your dog reminds me of my little guys. They are the greatest dogs ever. I now have a female Schip and she is very energetic and sweet.
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing. Our Schipperke Kenny passed away just last Friday (10/09/09). We miss him. His best friend Buckley the Italian Greyhound misses him, too. :)
Your story breaks my heart! I'm so sorry for your loss. Yogi was brought up with 2 kitty brothers. Good thing we kept the kitty litter in the basement, because Yogi didn't like going down those steep steps, so he never went near the litter box! This is the first time I have ever heard about kitty litter causing a problem. Thanks for sharing. I will keep this in mind and warn others!
Oh my god he is soooo freaking cute with that little vest! When he was standing on the front of the boat just lookin out my heart melted, I just wanna pet the F out of that dog lol
BTerru, Schips are such great pals and they leave such a great big hole in your heart when they're gone. I wished they lived for decades and decades! I'm glad my little video reminds you of your schip. Please take care and hang in there.
Wow seeing this video makes me miss my dog Maggie so much!! She passed away last week. She was a Schipperke and part Boston Terrier. I had her for almost 17 years. She hated other dogs for a long time and loved people
He was the cutest / TOUGHEST Schipperke on the planet. No sail boat but a Boston Whaler was his thing. We still have our Schipperke , Mini Mouse whom just turned 13! SCHIPS RULE! Dogs Rule!
Also when he was walking through the snow, oh man, I haven't seen anything this cute on youtube in a long time. I can't wait till I take my schipperke to the snow, I always wondered how she would like it.
Thanks for the compliment on my video. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Kenny. It is so easy to get attached to our pets. They all have their own unique personalities. They can be so lovable, even when they act like little devils.
I know what you mean--we have the same problem with Yogi. Although, we are fortunate to have over 200 acres of woodland at the end of our street. We let him around in there, but still need to keep an eye out for hikers and ATVs. We've had close calls! At the dock, we can only let him off the leash at high tide. A tall bulkhead wall blocks his way to the parking lot. On the boat, we are at a mooring. When sailing, we tether him to the boat, so he won't go overboard. Thanks for watching! :)
@GodDamnDogs I'm so sorry for your loss. I had a cat that died of a brain tumor too-not a fun time. I felt so helpless in the situation. It's not easy to lose these little guys. Please, take care.
I'm so sorry for the the loss of your Zoey. That has to be hard! They become part of the family. You're right, skipperkes do rule! I would get another one too!
So difficult to get this breed of dog in Namibia or even South Africa. Had one as a child and wish I could get a puppy again. Loved watching your clip.
@scaprslayer, Schipperkes are pretty frisky, especially the first 3 years of their lives. Although, they will still need exercise as they get older. A daily walk is recommended. I have a male and he tends to be a good watch dog. He barks at everyone, even the squirrels that come in the yard. To avoid getting hit by a vehicle, they should be kept on a leash, because they tend to chase anything that catches their eye. They can be a handful, but as they get older, they become more relaxed.
@crimsin03 Schipperkes are pretty rugged. They have a double coat, so they can stand the cold winter weather. Although, sometimes the snow will be too deep for them to walk in, because they are small. Yogi enjoys the winter. They do pretty good in the summer too, but make sure they have plenty of water and shade close by. Since they are black, their fur color absorbs the heat from the sun. Schips like to swim too, so a dip in the water (you can keep him on a leash from shore) can keep them cool.
@Dune137 I'm so sorry about the loss of your little guy schips. I agree-- are the greatest dogs ever! I hope your new little girl schip gives you many years of joy. Thanks for your kind words about my video!
Make sure you get him a life jacket. They have a handle on top (like a suitcase). It will make it easier for you to get him back on board, if he should fall overboard. Have fun! :)
@Barnekkid He's never got seasick. We brought him up sailing since he was a puppy, so I think he got used to the wave action. We keep him with us in the cockpit (tethered of course), while we sail. Thanks for watching!
I hope this is true--a long life. My Yogi is 9 years old now. I'm so attached to him! Looking back, I didn't even want a dog-----I had to be arm twisted! :)
@smOOdiebOOdie My schip does bark when people come to our door, but if they are invited inside, he tends to warm up to them. If it is just someone delivering mail or the newspaper, he'll bark until they are long gone. As they get older they tend to calm down some. On a walk, Yogi may bark when someone gets close. Although, if he isn't on the leash, he tends to ignore people. We take him in the woods a lot and let him off the leash. My dog is a male, so I'm not sure how females react.
Hi qtpa2t066, Wow! Four schipperkes---- yikes! Be sure to take video of their wacky antics---I would love to watch! Thanks for the kind words on the video. I made the music with GarageBand (an Apple music software--part of iLife). I fashioned a collage of overlapping loops (with additional artistic changes) from their Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack. Thanks for watching and good luck with the adoptions! :)
Spartank43x, I'm so sorry for your loss of Indy. We get so attached to our schipperkes! They leave a big void, because they have such big personalities even though they are little guys. I'm flattered that my video reminds you of Indy. Thanks for watching.
@smOOdiebOOdie These dogs are pretty rugged for their size and they can handle winter, because they have a double coat. I take mine hiking and sailing. This breed does have a tail, but they dock them when they are very young. I guess it is part of the purebread breed thing, if you want to show the dog in dog shows.
@chad2831 They take a little time to train when they are puppies, because they are very hyperactive and super alert to everything around them. They get distracted very easily. Plenty of treats, patience, and toys help. They usually get it though and end up learning. Some schips are easier to train than others. Depends on their personalities. One thing is for sure, they calm down as they get older (like people do) :)
@michellewonderwoman1 You are correct. They are very protective and make very good watch dogs. They are super alert. No one gets near the house without him alerting us! :)
Hi nice video! :) Saw these dogs for the first time just a couple of days ago and I love em! But doesnt the barking get really annoying? How much do they bark? Do they bark a lot when out walking with them (or when home??)? Also why no tail? :) Thank you! /Tomas from Sweden
@dietersoellner Yogi is 10 years old now. He came from Do Bo Tri Kennels, Missouri. The breeder was Marnita Phelps. Yogi's parents were "Big Tazz Buster" and "Explorer Mayce". This info is from his pedigree papers. Maybe your schip and Yogi are from the same line?
@kkkkrazybecky, My Yogi doesn't have a Twitter account. I did hear that there was a schip named Yogi, who did though. My Yogi is on Dogbook. Sometimes, he checks in there to write a status report. :)
@part3mon3 We had him since he was a puppy. Yogi is 100% schipperke. He has papers, including a genealogy. Sorry about your schip! I hope you find him soon. Did you check the shelters and the newspaper classified ads to see if he was found?
I did a "dog breeed selector" quiz online recently -- we have never owned a dog, but are considering getting one in the future for our son and want to be very, very, very sure we are capable of raising one -- and the quiz recommended the Schipperke as the ideal breed for us. I know all dogs are different, but overall, how is their temperament? Would a Schipperke be a good dog for a small child?
@razzmatazz54 Hi sailor! We have a 30ft. Catalina and we sail Narragansett Bay! Maybe we'll see you in Block Island Sound with Taz at the helm! Yogi makes sure the powerboaters keep their distance. :)
I'm now almost 74 and I miss all the dogs I have ever owned and remember them all. Mans best friend for sure!!
I had my Schipperke for 10 1/2 blessed years, the most wonderful dog ever. Thanks for this vid, reminds me of my baby.
I inherited a golden Schipperke who was full of fun and joie de vivre. He died of liver cancer a while back, and he left me with so many wonderful memories that I'm getting a puppy in a few weeks.

Hello, & thanks for this! After 17 years, we lost our Yogi; our 4th Schipperke. I watched Yogi be born, he was the runt & at 10 Lbs.
This is beautiful. It actually made me cry because 2 of my Schipperkes passed away in the last 2 years (one at 15, the other at 17). Your dog reminds me of my little guys. They are the greatest dogs ever. I now have a female Schip and she is very energetic and sweet.
What a sweetie. I love his reaction to the goat when it reared up. :)
Aww, Yogi. What a cute little fellow. It looks like he has a good life. I look forward to owning a Schipperke some day when I have my own house.
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing. Our Schipperke Kenny passed away just last Friday (10/09/09). We miss him. His best friend Buckley the Italian Greyhound misses him, too. :)
One of the best dog to own....
Beautiful and wonderful smaller breed dog. Am considering this breed for my next companion.
Your story breaks my heart! I'm so sorry for your loss. Yogi was brought up with 2 kitty brothers. Such a bright looking, stoic friend. So jealous!
..that was great..thank you. You have inspired to do a vid for my Schipperke, Gilligan. My best friend (besides my wife) and best buddy.
One of the best dog's to own....
I still have this video saved after so many years looks exactly like my dog :D
Thank you! Looking forward to seeing Gilligan in action!
You combined two of my favorite things--Beavertail Light and Schipperkes. My Anne Bonney is my best buddy.....
one of the best dog's to own

Great video. Thanks !!
hahaha loved the snow bit
Such beautiful dogs!
We just lost our girl Booboo, she was 15 years old.. She was a gorgeous companion and family member. Schipps are awesome.
He was the cutest / TOUGHEST Schipperke on the planet. No sail boat but a Boston Whaler was his thing. We still have our Schipperke , Mini Mouse whom just turned 13! SCHIPS RULE! Dogs Rule!

Thank you! I love the name Booboo!
I had his brother here in Australia Levi the best dog you could wish for 🐕🙋♂️
wow, what a lucky schipperke! Nice video
Hi pupperwupper, I didn't know how Yogi would react to the goat either. I was pleasantly surprised that it looked like he just wanted to play.
He is so sweet!
Awesome💙

I have 3 schipps and nary a one has seen a boat. My gals would love to meet yours and learn what their job really is...maybe!

@matthewm0311 I'm not sure if he's the only dog breed bred for the sea, but he is very comfortable on the water. He's a good swimmer too!

Hi nice video! :) Saw these dogs for the first time just a couple of days ago and I love em! But doesnt the barking get really annoying? How much do they bark? Do they bark a lot when out walking with them (or when home??)?

Hey man great video! How much are schipperkes? I used to breed them with my parents but I was at a young age lol.

I guess this what's called a "sea dog." Does he get sea sick? Nice video.
How is ur dog doing?
@Chop11000 I think Yogi was about 500 dollars. He was well worth it too. :)
Thanks for sharing. Wonderful video. I love my little Schipperke.
