Very good review. I used to own the 610 and I had the very same problems with the touch screen, the sat nav was beautiful and absolutely weather proof, it went through hell on my bike, but the touch screen is a no no.
Awesome. I've had mine for a few years but it's starting to die on me. I recently bought the new Montana 700 but sent it back because the topo maps that come.with it are horrendous. God bless
Great review, little tip, don't use your thumb when calibrating the screen use your little finger, see if it helps, the problem might be your big thumbs, I have same problem, once calibrating is finished you can then use your thumb to operate it no problem
Great idea saving up gift cards. I am looking at the 66i garmin but it has a rechargeable battery that I do not believe you can switch out. so when I am in the woods for 3 to 5 days the battery will go dead. That is useless to me.
You could always bring an external battery pack and charging chord to plug into if you needed to. I usually bring a battery pack hunting to recharge my devices if the batteries are getting low
There have been updates. Unit works okay but takes a very long time to boot up. I still use it a lot and it gets the job done. Accuracy isn’t too bad. Better than apps on a smart phone using gps, like OnX.
Thanks for your videos! Do the garmin gps's have capability to display latitude and longitude grid square lines? I did not see them in the video nor in the garmin online manuals. Presently I am using a 15 year old iFinderPro (Lowrance) and custom prepared paper topo maps with grid squares to match the Lowrance grid squares zoomed to 15 sec intervals.
i hope garmin comes with a updated version of this kind of navigation i have purchase one and after one day use i bring it back to the shop i can't work with it everything you must first download from openstbreetmaps and then you can use it, i use now tomtom rider 450 easy to use i hope garmin comes with better newer technology
Is it still worth to buy this days a montana 680t it is to outdated. I have bought one and return it to the shop it is to laggy and slow, no loudspeaker inside and limited apps choices
Thanks for the video. I have one and I hate it too, but for many other reasons. It does many many things but nothing right. Yes, it is way overpriced for what it is. Sorry Garmin but I am going with Tomtom.
Mine has a removable battery pack built in from the manufacturer. It charges automatically when I get home and plug it into my computer and holds a good charge.
I figured that since I just uploaded a video on that I didn't need to also do it in this video. Here is the other video ua-cam.com/video/JECXJmmbQJA/v-deo.html
hey i know this is an old video, i have the same gps and i agree with the accuracy weirdness. however i updated the device through garmin express or whatever and it tends to be less laggy. im sure you have updated yours but just figured id mention it to see if that fixed your troubles too.
There was one update I did about a year and a half ago that helped speed it up on the boot up but the two updates since have put it right back to where it was, taking forever to boot up.
@@seansoutdoors huh, mine takes about 1.5 minutes to boot up and find satellites. maybe talk to garmin about it? as its one company that actually has a functioning customer support in my experience. given it is a 600 dollar investment you want it to be nothing but perfect.
@@blaiseflegg5573 boot up for me used to take a few seconds. Not it takes about 30 seconds to a minute, which to me is unacceptable. I even removed all of my Birdseye imagery to try to help it boot up faster, but it still stinks.
The 610 i purchased failed within 12 months. It was raplaced under warranty with a refurbished 2nd hand unit. Now 30 months later the off/on button has collapsed into the unit, perished/rotted materials being the cause. Garmin offer units in exchange with large cash payments from myself, but no answer as to why this 2nd hand unit, with unknown history, has an outer case deteriorating? Very dissapointing that this products outer case is sub standard. Poor customer service
but nevertheless nice vid, great info im in the market for one, im thinking of the montana 610 t or the one you review. Gotta be honest not connecting even when you're out side it's a huge deal breaker for me. Would be cool if you could review the 610t or other garmin. Thanks for the vid great review.
@@mrdre963 I'd also look at the Oregon 650T. They are really nice. My friend has one, and I had the Oregon 450T and really enjoyed it, but it was just too small. The 650 is bigger though.

Thanks for review. I picked one up today on sale for $430. It’s so much nicer than my old ETrex.

My (rubber) On/Off switch tore away and fell inside. Rubber switch is a weak point, otherwise.. excellent unit.
Bummer that that happened.
Have any updates came out for this unit that has improved the issues? I see this video was posted a while back and I’m looking into buy one new now

Wow. You actually have people who give you birthday presents? Lucky.

If it does then I am not aware of it. I don't use that feature.
Is calibration still a issue with your Montana gps?
I’m looking into getting one but thinking on the 64s since the touch screen is bad
You do need to calibrate it quite often.
Thank you for the review!!!
You’re welcome

Yeah, it is a descent unit. I use it a LOT.
Thanks for the great video Sean. Can you recommend an app that would turn my iphone into a GPS? Much appreciated?
If you are using it for hunting, I would suggest something like HuntStand. It has a lot of functionality that is very helpful for hunting.
Sean's Outdoor Adventures Thank you Sean
You are welcome Dave1
Dave Burridge, Backcountry Navigator only on Droid products
OnX Hunt is a great app. It even gives you property boundaries.
The camera is an excellent addition to the GPS.
I agree. Thanks for watching and God bless you.

It must have been a calibration issue.
Maybe

That's a bummer. I've had my 680t for years and it is still sold and working.
