- Director of this summer's big blockbuster, Christopher Nolan, was joined on the red carpet by cast members Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Harry Styles, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, James Darcy, Fionn Whitehead, Barry Keoghan, Aneurin Barnard and more for the premiere of Dunkirk.
Thank you Christopher Nolan for putting Tom Hardy in Dunkirk. Phenomenal actor! One of the best of best actors out there right now!

It wasn't implied that Hardy didn't want the part, just that as soon as Nolan finished writing the part, he knew Hardy was the perfect fit so he begged him to be in it. And that he knew Hardy would be interested because of the unique physical limitations, so I think Hardy was immediately interested...

Dunkirk is amazing. It gets more amazing the more I think about it. One of the best war movies I have seen. The way Nolan directs his films makes them almost feel hypnotic the way that they flow from scene to scene. It is, in my opinion, a very unique war movie that only a guy like Nolan could have made.

lovely man & one of the very few actors I have any time for. He actually supports our troops/ servicemen & knew about Dunkirk, which most of these other extreme lefties actors didn't or wouldn't even care about. Oh, and when a person loves animals as much as he does, they're the best of the best.

Stuart in Stuart A Life Backwards with Benedict Cumberbatch. He nailed that part and it’s really a movie that will make you think about those on the fringes of society.
Why was the intro like something from the 80s?

Fully agreed. Lacking in a variety of ways, most notably in the puny amount of soldiers visible at any given time!!! The scale was lost completely.
You missed the point of the film then. Do you not think they could have filled the scenes with thousands of cgi soldiers if they wanted to? The film was catching the essence of that day. If you want to see a film that tells you how to see and feel then stick to a Micheal Bay film, all will be explained to you. That's directed at Dave England and less so AnEnemy100.
It could have been done a million times better, and I expected much much better from Nolan than a few little stories with no measure of actual scale. I bet you enjoyed the gliding spitfire still able to engage effectively. Fucking great love the realism.
The point of the movie is to tell the story of Dunkirk and the evacuation of the soldiers. The sheer scale and amount of people rescued off that beach is why it's become a very notable time in history, and, a proud moment for the country coming together. To not accurately portray the scale of that task I believe is a let down, I watched the movie in Seoul with my Korean friends who obviously aren't really aware of the actual events that took place, and I had to explain further to help them properly understand the importance of Dunkirk. In the movie, it's just a few lines of soldiers.
This movie in an insult to the memory of the many Indians who gave their lives at Dunkirk and who helped save the lives of British soldiers there. Indian (a large number were muslims from what is now Pakistan and Afghanistan) blood, toil and sacrifice at Dunkirk does not appear to matter to Mr Nolan. What a whitewash of a major historical event.
