Let's not forget Samus Aran from the Metroid Other M. She looks pretty much the same, but then comes the speaking. She talks now. A lot. No longer a ridiculously calm "Get the job done" kind of attitude. She's now a scared girl, who thinks of her superior as a father figure, even though he's a complete jerk to her. It baffles me how they could do this much to absolutely destroy a character. But no one can kill Samus. Samus will live on as the cool bountyhunter we all know and love.

The reboot shows us a more human Kratos for the first time. Of course! 'Cause his touching encounter with his daughter in elisiums never happened. 'Cause his quest for a lost little brother who he brought by his side for a few last moments never did as well. 'Cause all his suffering for his dead family... oh well. Thank god the reboot is there to show a human side of his.

"press X to reject your daughter" (background story = reject her, otherwise, Hades' wife destroys universe with your daughter included).

Is it just me who thought of Ezio? You play him as a young adult, maybe even still a teenager in the first game, and by the last game he's in his early 50's, and even older in the short movie 'Assassin's Creed Embers'. You see him develop more than most character's on this list, from a charismatic young nimble reckless free runner, or a... charismatic old nimble occasionally reckless Assassin Not to mention the granddaddy of the franchise, Altair. In revelations you see him at the age of 22, to finish off with him at around 80... I may have shed a tear or two

To be fair to the developers, that was mostly due to how the fans started interpreting him. Hopefully they'll be setting his personality back to what it used to be.
gamma626 Real Cloud was not like that though. That was the version of Cloud that had his head messed up and had formed a personality of what he thought made a strong SOLDIER. Real Cloud, when he first appears, is actually quite mopey and apologetic. This is only because there is not much time left in the game after that and they had to go fight Sephiroth. Cloud was never emotionally strong which is why he didn't make it into SOLDIER .

You do realize the main issue with Donte is the personality, not the hair, right? Changing the protagonist from someone likeable to someone you want to punch in the face trumps design change. The main (lingering) issue with the hair is the fact that it's just another part of the developer's hatred of the original Dante. They even took a jab at fans of original Dante in game. If you dislike the main character that the fans of a series love, either don't work with the series, or come up with your own character. If you don't have an appreciation for the source material, you have no business even touching a reboot.
everyone who complained about the new Dante did the same thing the cod community did "omg change something new with the same basic gameplay omg this is horrible they tried to revive the series and make something for new generations of gamers ahhhhhhh" it was irritating I've played every dmc I own the HD edition of the first three I loved the games and this new one is just another instillation in a great series full of challenge and kickass battles also grow the beard

Sonic has had plenty of alternate designs over the years to fit the scenario or idea, like Riders or Boom. But he always kept that cool teenage anime style as his main one since Adventure. Nor how the game decided to take out the challenges of the original not how points where changed from variation of moves used to damage made neither how unlikable new Dante was, or how hypocrite he was. neither the lackluster and week vergil also not how the game has levels in wich you don't fight and are just pulling wall and object to keep the cutscene Neither how Ninja Theory and their fans hyped how cool and great NT are when it comes to plot just to deliver a weak plot and bad story and plotholes. Neither how NT pretty much just said that old Dantewas bad, activelly dissing him from the get go. Neither was NT's handling of the backlash, with their contradictory statements. yeah, it was only, and ONLY the hair, nothing else...

Haha! That DMC skit had me in tears. I do have to point out though, that the reason people disliked the new Dante wasn't because of his hair, it was because old Dante was was cocky, and funny, and confident, and was in general having a rollicking time slaying demons and eating pizza, whereas new Dante is a depressed, swearing, smoking delinquent who is trying waaay too hard to be 'cool'. Also, I for one am extremely upset about the new God of War - they've gimped the gameplay and put the story before, and at the expense of, the gameplay. GOW is my favorite Playstation franchise, and I'm not sure that I'll be buying this new one. You can tell just from the stage demo that the gameplay is unimportant to this new GOW, and that sucks. People say it's ''modernized'' and that the old GOW games are ''stuck in the PS2 generation'' and I'd have to agree - GOOD GAMEPLAY is indeed stuck in the PS2 generation, for the most part. Now days it's all about the cinematic story, with no regard for the person playing the game and that's what ''modern'' means - that is to say that I don't like what ''modern'' means, in this context. I was fully expecting change for the next GOW game and I was looking forward to that, but what I wasn't expecting was a complete and utter downgrade into something that is barely even a ''game'' at all.

Trustworthy Traitor The whole point of a ''demo''/demonstration is for the audience to judge, and when you show a full 10 minute demo where the parts resembling an actual ''game''(where there is a winner and a loser) can be counted in seconds, not minutes, I think it's fair that many players would judge that harshly. Even the parts that looked like a real game had an ''I WIN'' button. You say the story is ''a bit'' more important, but I say that without the story this game has no appeal AT ALL. And personally, I do not care about the story, I just want good gameplay, and this is something that is being shoved to the side in favor of vastly inferior interactive story telling.
SwinnyUK again the last demo(well only demo) they showed wasn't focusing on gameplay, we will probably see huge amounts of awesome gameplay in the future. Imagine that one as a story trailer for the time being, I bet in the final game we will be back to swinging our weapons over our heads, slicing through little mobs all the way, with kratos screaming like an insane psychopath all the while. XD

Also the reason Heihachi went young for TTT2 (other than story wise) was that the man that voiced him unfortunately died before the creation of the game, so they had a different voice actor for him in TTT2 and subsequently Namco decided to give him a different look to accommodate and also to grieve the passing of the previous voice actor. Also I prefer the new Dante to the old one. He is actually a decent, interesting character rather than being a walking talking plate of cheese on toast.

The only thing that really changed with Chris was his personality, but that seemed like a natural change (except for Resident Evil 6, what did they do his personality in that one?), I personally think the character who underwent the biggest change was Sherry.
playstation access isn't afraid to admit the DmC reboot was awesome and tell the nostolgia fanboys to shove if they don't like it, and that's why I'll always love this channel

It was a very good game, but had many flaws, like the lack of a lock-on system, or the ever so annoying button press combinations for all weapons, which was especially aggravating during the platforming sequences where you had to use the angel and devil whips. So, it's a strong 7/10 very good game, but not yet a 9/10 awesome one. Plus, there the fact that the main character wasn't a redesign of Dante, it was a completely different character just called "Dante", it would have been received much better if they just named him any other way. Yes, some purists would still bicker how it's bad to have a new main chara, but in general such a decision would be received much better than such a "redesign".

Awesome video though! some character changes I didn't like were Raiden and Reptile from Mortal Kombat, along with the cyborgs, yeah they went from alt-colored clones to more detailed characters but they could've done better with Reptile, Ermac and Rain

Trustworthy Traitor I'm only speaking for myself of course but when he decidedly had a voice it removed all doubts that he was insane. Was it the Necromorphs? Did they even exist? Was he insane? Was it actually him killing everyone the entire time? When he had a voice, he interacted with people and it removed almost all doubts. Dead Space 1 was a Horror/suspense/survival. Dead Space 2&3 were themed shooters. Admittedly a lot more than just Isaac changed for that to be the case tho.
Rotu ya but I still think it was for the better, it removed some of of the psychological aspect of the original, but let us connect with isaac more deeply and not just on a survivor scale.
Rotu's DragonSoul Reviews I hated that too. In fact, I didn't like how he took his helmet off at the end of DS1. It took away from the experience in my opinion, since you could picture yourself as him throughout the entire game. He had no face, nor voice because you gave it to him. Him being mute also added to the atmosphere, as it really made you feel alone.
Imo, the original Lara was way better. I haven't played the newest one yet, though I will when it comes out in a few days, so I can't say if they greatly improved her character or not. In the reboot, I felt she was very disappointing. It's not an origin story as much as it is a complete retcon to make her more appealing to the PC crowd. _"Ohh, Lara is really a kind-hearted saint who is FORCED to kill only to save herself!"_ Whereas the first Lara was a ruthless badass who just straight up murdered anyone who got in her way and didn't spent half her time crying. As far as sexualization goes, did people not hear the noises she makes in the reboot? If that actress wasn't intentionally trying to make highly suggestive noises when Lara dies in horrible ways, I'm baffled as to what exactly she was trying to accomplish.

My take on Dante: dMc is easily the best and most stylistic game in the series, and Dante's redesign is super cool.

Not a big difference if we're considering storytelling. Sorry if I was being ironic with my original post but people are neglecting the human being Kratos always were. "press X to reject your daughter" (background story = reject her, otherwise, Hades' wife destroys universe with your daughter included).
Yes Kratos has had a rough life but it hardly comes out as a major theme in the other titles. Also, isn't this a continuation of God of War? Not a reboot right?

gamma626 Real Cloud was not like that though. That was the version of Cloud that had his head messed up and had formed a personality of what he thought made a strong SOLDIER. Real Cloud, when he first appears, is actually quite mopey and apologetic. This is only because there is not much time left in the game after that and they had to go fight Sephiroth. Cloud was never emotionally strong which is why he didn't make it into SOLDIER .

You do realize the main issue with Donte is the personality, not the hair, right? Changing the protagonist from someone likeable to someone you want to punch in the face trumps design change. The main (lingering) issue with the hair is the fact that it's just another part of the developer's hatred of the original Dante. They even took a jab at fans of original Dante in game.
If you dislike the main character that the fans of a series love, either don't work with the series, or come up with your own character. If you don't have an appreciation for the source material, you have no business even touching a reboot.

Not gonna lie. Having no lock-on button annoyed me more than the new Dante.
It was a feature I never really utilized myself honestly because I didn't know it existed for the longest time I just went with the buttons that attacked lol but I can see were that would irritate some :)

Cod was decent in it's WW2 days, then it changed to modern warfare, got a bit better, and after that, just became the same old thing with some different guns and characters.

Haha! That DMC skit had me in tears. I do have to point out though, that the reason people disliked the new Dante wasn't because of his hair, it was because old Dante was was cocky, and funny, and confident, and was in general having a rollicking time slaying demons and eating pizza, whereas new Dante is a depressed, swearing, smoking delinquent who is trying waaay too hard to be 'cool'.
Also, I for one am extremely upset about the new God of War - they've gimped the gameplay and put the story before, and at the expense of, the gameplay. GOW is my favorite Playstation franchise, and I'm not sure that I'll be buying this new one. You can tell just from the stage demo that the gameplay is unimportant to this new GOW, and that sucks. People say it's ''modernized'' and that the old GOW games are ''stuck in the PS2 generation'' and I'd have to agree - GOOD GAMEPLAY is indeed stuck in the PS2 generation, for the most part. Now days it's all about the cinematic story, with no regard for the person playing the game and that's what ''modern'' means - that is to say that I don't like what ''modern'' means, in this context. I was fully expecting change for the next GOW game and I was looking forward to that, but what I wasn't expecting was a complete and utter downgrade into something that is barely even a ''game'' at all.
you havnt played the new GOW so I think you are being a bit premature in your current opinion :/ but then again it is your opinion so go right ahead :D I for one am happy that the story is a bit more important, but i still like the old gameplay. I'm kind of strung up in my own opinion but am hoping there is more to it than what we have seen.
Trustworthy Traitor The whole point of a ''demo''/demonstration is for the audience to judge, and when you show a full 10 minute demo where the parts resembling an actual ''game''(where there is a winner and a loser) can be counted in seconds, not minutes, I think it's fair that many players would judge that harshly.
Even the parts that looked like a real game had an ''I WIN'' button. You say the story is ''a bit'' more important, but I say that without the story this game has no appeal AT ALL. And personally, I do not care about the story, I just want good gameplay, and this is something that is being shoved to the side in favor of vastly inferior interactive story telling.
SwinnyUK again the last demo(well only demo) they showed wasn't focusing on gameplay, we will probably see huge amounts of awesome gameplay in the future. Imagine that one as a story trailer for the time being, I bet in the final game we will be back to swinging our weapons over our heads, slicing through little mobs all the way, with kratos screaming like an insane psychopath all the while. XD

Also the reason Heihachi went young for TTT2 (other than story wise) was that the man that voiced him unfortunately died before the creation of the game, so they had a different voice actor for him in TTT2 and subsequently Namco decided to give him a different look to accommodate and also to grieve the passing of the previous voice actor.
Also I prefer the new Dante to the old one. He is actually a decent, interesting character rather than being a walking talking plate of cheese on toast.

The only thing that really changed with Chris was his personality, but that seemed like a natural change (except for Resident Evil 6, what did they do his personality in that one?), I personally think the character who underwent the biggest change was Sherry.

If it would be "awesome" it would still be around. It was a very good game, but had many flaws, like the lack of a lock-on system, or the ever so annoying button press combinations for all weapons, which was especially aggravating during the platforming sequences where you had to use the angel and devil whips. So, it's a strong 7/10 very good game, but not yet a 9/10 awesome one.
Plus, there the fact that the main character wasn't a redesign of Dante, it was a completely different character just called "Dante", it would have been received much better if they just named him any other way. Yes, some purists would still bicker how it's bad to have a new main chara, but in general such a decision would be received much better than such a "redesign".

Watching your videos so often now makes me read every comment in an English accent. Awesome video though! some character changes I didn't like were Raiden and Reptile from Mortal Kombat, along with the cyborgs, yeah they went from alt-colored clones to more detailed characters but they could've done better with Reptile, Ermac and Rain

Her attitude was definitely different, but appearance-wise (other than the costumes) it was pretty much the same. (Hell, the game used the same skins as FFX for most of it)

Trustworthy Traitor I'm only speaking for myself of course but when he decidedly had a voice it removed all doubts that he was insane. Was it the Necromorphs? Did they even exist? Was he insane? Was it actually him killing everyone the entire time? When he had a voice, he interacted with people and it removed almost all doubts. Dead Space 1 was a Horror/suspense/survival. Dead Space 2&3 were themed shooters. Admittedly a lot more than just Isaac changed for that to be the case tho.
Rotu ya but I still think it was for the better, it removed some of of the psychological aspect of the original, but let us connect with isaac more deeply and not just on a survivor scale.
Rotu's DragonSoul Reviews I hated that too. In fact, I didn't like how he took his helmet off at the end of DS1. It took away from the experience in my opinion, since you could picture yourself as him throughout the entire game. He had no face, nor voice because you gave it to him.
Him being mute also added to the atmosphere, as it really made you feel alone.

I haven't played the newest one yet, though I will when it comes out in a few days, so I can't say if they greatly improved her character or not. In the reboot, I felt she was very disappointing. It's not an origin story as much as it is a complete retcon to make her more appealing to the PC crowd.
