Torres EVX review: Who made THIS?

  • The Torres is essentially SsangYong with a new name. Yes, that’s right the Korean brand is back and it’s essentially been rebadged as KGM Motors. This is the EVX, an all-new electric SUV, named after the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. It is advertised as “being bold, rugged and confident”; with promo videos on the Torres home page (petrol version, not yet available in the UK) showing it go off the beaten track, climbing a mountain, and even pulling a wakeboarder, while glossy pictures of the electric version hint that it has some off-road capability. We thought it would be fun to try and recreate some of those scenarios and find out whether this is the closest thing to a new electric Land Rover right now?
    What’s good?
    Very spacious
    Well-equipped as standard
Able to take a charge up to 350kW
    What’s bad?
Not tailored to heavy off-road use
    Better cars for similar money
    Constantly beeps at you

I think those are coat hangers on the back of the seats
I simply do not understand the pricing strategy of budget brands trying to sell EVs in the UK, they consistently price them the same or more than much better cars. The Torres EV is the equivalent of £33,800 in New Zealand, if it was priced the same in the UK then it would be quite a compelling package. As it is, why on earth would you buy one?

      I think you’re right - they’re coat hangers.
If it was priced just below the Kona and Hyundai equivalents it would do a lot better!

Lazy Ssangyong/Kgm review. I can accept EV power train might be crap but in my experience of Ssangyongs are they are very well made, good to drive and have reliability Land rover could only ever dream of. The only downside of new KGMS is they are actually quite expensive.

It's great to hear your experience of Ssangyong has been so positive. It really is such a shame KGM hasn't followed a similar pricing strategy.

Off-road with FWD only? WTF? Snowy hills, mud hills, with trailer. Look like heavy offroad but FWD!!!

The car in the promo video is an advert for their Torres ICE - a petrol powered four-wheel drive vehicle, and it's the first thing you see when you go to their homepage. While we know the EV version is FWD and there is far less emphasis on off-road capability video footage-wise, we still think the promo pictures indicate it's not exactly 'incapable off-road' either. As you say it looks like an off-roader too, albeit those features are fake when you take a closer look!

Having driven Sang Yong cars a few years ago ( company car), the handling is crap. The controls are hazardly laid out and worst of all is the ride, it's was like a pogo stick.

Yes, funny isn't it, for the price, even Tata Motors, an Indian car manufacturer like Landrover can't pull this off. So what are you complaining about? Or are you saying that this is a very good deal?

Few will buy this overpriced tin bin. Hopefully those who buy never ask about the value for money or what the competitors deliver for the money.
